I have searched the boards, but there are SO many options.
We went out this weekend and really loved the tempur-pedicure hybrid (coils and foam, cooling top layer, soft but not too soft), but man, itβs pricey. Which is fine if it is worth it (our current mattress is probably 20 years old, so itβs not like we buy these frequently).
Iβm so overwhelmed by whatβs out there.
-We are stomach/side sleepers - do not like firm mattresses - thinking a hybrid is probably our preference over all foam, but maybe not? I canβt really say why.
Do you love your mattress? Help! There are way too many options. We donβt want to go at the lowest end, but not sure we want to go the highest either.
Wait for a major holiday, there are always sales then. Buy from a reputable dealer who offers a comfort exchange. Coil mattresses are hybrids, it's just a term that has become popular in the last few years. You can't have a mattress with just coils, right?!?
I love my Beautyrest Black. It's a luxury firm. For a bed in a box (all foam), I'd suggest Tuft and Needle. They have a 100 day guarantee.
Disclaimer: I work for a company closely related to these products.

Check out mattress review sites. I love tuck.com
They review every type of mattress and give really solid advice. There are so many types of mattresses now and so many you buy online. "Trying" them out in store is an out dated line of thinking and ineffective so really it's better to research online.

Also, the life of a mattress is 7-8 years.
I know weβve had ours way too long, but, daycare etc means our mattress was bottom of the list for investments. We are way overdue and looking forward to a new one.
Iβve been reading a lot of reviews - will check out tuck.com - thanks for the rec!
We just upgraded our mattress in January. We went from a 10+ year old Tempurpedic to a Nectar, also going from a Queen to a King. We upgraded to a different base/boxspring for more support and have been very happy with our purchase. It is so soft an comfortable.

We got a Tuft & Needle last year and I never thought I'd love a mattress so much. I've never slept better. I was super hesitant to order a mattress online, but 2 friends recommended this one. I did a bunch of research on the other mattress in box companies (Purple, Casper) and the Tuft & Needle seemed the best for how we sleep (side sleeper, don't like a super firm mattress.) We have the "Mint" version. They have a basic/cheaper option and higher hybrid mattress as well. There is a 100 night trial, so if you don't love it, you can return no questions asked. They go on sale quite often. I know we bought ours during the Memorial Day sale last year. The customer service is amazing too. I bought the mattress cover for it, and I didn't like the way if fit/shifted on the mattress, so I wanted to return it. They credited my card back in full and told us to keep or donate the cover. And it wasn't a cheap cover, I think it was about $100.
I will say that the first couple weeks I wasn't sure I liked it. It takes a bit for the foam to soften a bit and conform to your body. At first we felt like we were almost floating on top of the mattress and going to fall off.
We have a Purple hybrid that's almost two years old, and it's worked really well for us. I tend to be a side/stomach sleeper, and DH is side/back. It also seems to breathe really well, no waking up sweaty (DH used to, he runs really warm).

I also really love my Tuft and Needle Mint mattress. Highly recommend! I ordered their foam pillow at the same time, which I did not love, and they gave me a credit for it but let me keep it anyway.
If anyone is looking for a good pillow, I just tried the Casper foam pillow, and it's perfect for me. I tried what seems like a million pillows, and finally my neck feels so much better now.

Same here too. We're side sleepers and love our Tuft and Needle Mint.

We're also in the market for a new mattress. We are upgrading to a king. I think we have decided on a Verlo V7 mattress, but I personally like firm. However, they have a variety of types and they can also tweak it for you, even one side of the bed or the other, by making it firmer or softer. Adjustments in the first year of ownership are free.
Side sleeper too. We got a tempurpedic hybrid 2 years ago. It was shockingly expensive and worth every penny. We still are thankful for how insanely comfortable it is every time we get in bed. It's the best thing I have ever purchased.
Another vote for tuft and needle mint. We have had it 2 years and itβs still perfect. So comfy and sleeps way cooler than our old traditional mattress

We have had one of the original purple mattresses for 3? years. Last summer we noticed that there were noticeable dents where we normally sleep with a much more firm spot in the middle and it was causing us discomfort. I finally decided to call and talk to the company and find out if this would qualify for a warrantee replacement. The company was very easy to work with, they had us take a few pictures including what base it was on, and they got back to us quickly to let us know they would send us a new one. They contract with a company to come and pick up the old one but that company didnβt service our area so Purple told us to keep the old mattress. We cut it in to pieces and use parts of it as dog beds. A++ for customer service.
The new one is already getting too soft in places. There are no limits on warrantee replacements (I asked) so when it gets uncomfortable I guess we will do this again. That said, I think itβs a pretty great mattress most of the time. It sleeps super cool and it does a great job of cushioning joints. I used to think I wanted a super soft bed but I have come to realize I actually want a more firm bed long term or it leads to more pain. The purple seems to be a good combo of soft and firm just like the commercials say.
As a follow up, I did a bunch more research and we really wanted something that was not just foam or coil, that had some cooling, and was medium softness.
We ended up going with the Tempurpedic we tested out a week ago - it was by far the most comfortable of all that we tried. Hereβs hoping it leads to better sleep!
I had a purple mattress in the past and it was awesome! If you have a possibility to buy one of those - do it! you will never regret it. Now I can't afford to spend a fortune for the mattress and going for one of these low profile mattresses, choosing from one of those. I am between Lucid and Zinus foam memory mattresses at the moment. Did someone try one of those maybe?

I know this is an old tread, but @sameoldstory, can I ask what kind of base/boxspring you went for with the Nectar?
I feel like I've been researching mattresses forever, but I recently starting having REALLY bad back pain after we moved and the movers said our bed was put together, but they didn't use the middle support bar, so after sleeping on it for 2 nights we realized it was sinking in the middle and found the support bar buried behind other boxes in the garage. My back has hurt every morning ever since even though the frame/support/box spring is correct now and has been for 2 weeks. The pain goes away throughout the day and I'm pain free by afternoon/evening, but every morning it hurts again and I can not fully bend over, so I really think it's from the mattress/how I'm sleeping. So that has me rethinking not just the mattress we hope to buy, but also the frame and support. We are also going from a queen to a king.
Question if you bought your mattress online. Do they haul away your old mattress or do you have to take care of it yourself? (driving to the recycling facility with your old mattress and paying the $20-30 fee).

It depends. If you order it online from like Macy's or Mattress Firm or a furniture store and they deliver it, they usually offer a removal option. If it's an online-only company that ships via a carrier, you're on your own.

We got a Split King Box Spring from Serta. We wanted a more substantial base than the one that was available from Nectar and are very happy with our decision.
mrsd2006 , I am so burnt out. This place is insane. I am counting down the days until MH has his next transfer station. How are you surviving?
pinkpeony08 Who even knows. COVID did a number on things. Foam is a petroleum based product, so it's fickle with hurricanes, ice storms, etc.
dove , we are still working from home (I'm in the corporate office) but we are starting to let people come in and I told a few close coworkers this morning that I was rethinking going into the office because that 1/2 hour commute 2x a day would mean less working hours.... so I have officially lost my mind when I think sitting in traffic is a better option than working from home!
pinkpeony08 we were hoping it would be better in the fall but who knows now that Covid is picking up again.
