I had two fillings done yesterday, one new one and one replacing an old amalgam filing since they were right next to each other. In spite of them using the block, I still have jaw pain today - thanks TMD. I couldn't eat any solid food yesterday because I couldn't even open my mouth. It's slightly better today so I'm hoping I can eat because I'm starving.
I recently started posting on TikTok because it's fun. My 14 year daughter told me yesterday that I keep showing up on her friends For You Pages. Apparently one of the boys called me a MILF and I don't know whether I should be mortified or flattered LOL
We said goodbye to our dog yesterday. He was 18+ years old and we had him for more than half my life. After the last 6 months of full-time caregiving I hardly know what to do with myself now that he’s not here. We lost our other dog in October and the house just feels so empty without them 😔
I'm with W.T.Faulkner. No tik tok for me. I am so not ready to parent in the social media age. I keep telling DH my kid is going to have a flip phone until she goes to college. #shakescane
The coworker I work with the most closely has her last day on Friday. It is weird because I really enjoy her friendship and chatting with her, but I also can't wait for her to be done. She is super negative about our department/employer and has been basically since I started working there. It also seems she doesn't really do much - she shared with me her "transition plan" that she gave to our supervisor, and of the 5 items on it, 3 were things that she collaborated with me on. Last week, I typed up a list of all the stuff I do so we can better think through how to hire for her position, and there were about 20-25 things on it. I don't feel like I have too much work to do overall, but there are a lot of things we've made little progress on due to what I thought was a lack of resources. Turns out she probably had a lot more time to devote to them than I realized. I hope whoever we get in her place will take stuff and run with it more.
H wants to buy a second home that maybe we'd rent out or maybe not. And all I can think is that this would be a ton of work for me because I handle all of our finances and such. He is thinking of the fun; I'm thinking of the work.
@sameoldstory, I find the dental block almost hurts more, I suppose b/c there's no rest period b/c it just keeps the mouth open the whole time
wildrice, I can 100% relate.... I hope it's an overall positive and you jive well w/the new person (minus the negativity).
I'm tackling adulting today! I already cancelled a med appt, enrolled both kids in swim lessons, and I'm about to schedule a dentist appointment for DS & DD. Go me!
We got our public pre-k assignments today and we got our first choice even though the odds were really slim. Im so so happy. The alternative would have been a logistical nightmare for us. tiki let me know what school A got!
((( carmenere))) I'm so sorry. What a memorable life for a pup.
simpsongal, doesn't that energize you?? Love that accomplished feeling. I waited way too long to enroll my older daughter in summer camp and after-school care (for the fall), and when I finally tackled both last week, I was on top of the world.
I learned over the weekend that a guy I had a fling with 10+ years ago passed away. He was several years younger than I. I have no lingering flame for him, but his death has impacted me much more than I ever would have expected. He was just a really good guy, and I'm sad that he's gone. Isn't it fascinating how some people who play such a minor role in your life can also make a real impact? I have this urge to tell more people that they have made a positive difference in my life, but I don't think that would go over well with many people.

We got a new kitten on Sunday. She is very sweet, but young (like 2 months). I underestimated how upset our dogs would be. We have a cat, an old, huge, orange tabby, so I thought they would be okay, but they aren't. We have the hallway blocked with her and our other cat in the room at the end of the hall. I took her to the vet yesterday to make sure that she's healthy, start her shots, and get treated for fleas. Everything went fine. She tested negative for Feline leukemia and FIV. And she is eating just the tiniest bit. I don't know what is normal. It has been a long time since I have had a kitten. She is only 2 pounds, so, of course she isn't going to eat the same amount as our 20 pound old kitty. And she did just get vaccinated, so that might play a role. And she's in a new place with scary dogs barking at her from down the hallway. I'm not sure she has used the litter box since we got her. It's hard to tell because of the other kitty.
She's a calico and super sweet. We were thinking of naming her Lucy Fur because calico kitties are often the devil, but she might be too sweet for that name. She has a black splotch on her back that is in the shape of a bean, so I've been calling her Lucy Lima Bean.

Aww, I think Lucy is a cute name but I disagree that calicos are the devil! I think the most well behaved cat I've ever lived with was a calico. She was the first cat my family had when I was a kid and I loved her so much. She was SO tolerant of us children, to a point where she'd let us put a baby bonnet on her and push her around our house in a stroller lol. She was just the sweetest thing. She had a super unoriginal name of Callie, though, so I don't recommend that.
My tuxedo cat is the worst cat I've had (other than the super sweet, cuddly cat who peed all over the house, I guess), but I still love him just as much as the others I hope all your pets adjust quickly!
Our calico cat was the absolute sweetest! For such a tiny baby, you might want to put her in a less-trafficked area with her own box for a few days and spend time with her one-on-one?
It's also supposed to fucking snow here today and I am betrayed.
@babyaustin72 when I was a kid we adopted/raised two abandoned kittens left in my neighbor's garden. They were two weeks old. One was the sweetest calico that ever lived. She put up with all the kid shenanigans, loved everyone (my dad best), curled up to sleep with everyone/anyone and lived to be 18+ years. My current calico is much more leave me alone unless I want to cuddle. H is her favorite. We adopted her when she was two. We named her Penny because she has two penny shaped & sized copper/orange colored circles on her back. So it can go either way.
I hate TikTok. H watches it constantly, and it makes me ragey. Most likely because he listens to it at max volume, and I swear someone is always screaming. Or the stupid song clips get stuck in my head forever. I also hate that he will open it up alllll the time, and then I lose him if we're talking. He just gets... captured by moving pictures on screens (like tv) and this is no exception. There's a reason why we don't have cable (he'll flip endlessly just because its there), and TikTok is seriously next on my list to ban.
Ugh, I put on makeup and real pants for an in person meeting this morning, only to arrive just as it was being canceled. So much effort for nothing! It did let me squeeze in a quick errand while I was out though.
I just learned that CVS is (finally) updating vaccine apts every day. I was still under Thursday at midnight. Really on the line of just book one since it's open now and get it over with. I feel like I'm the only unvaccinated (by choice) person left.
I'm so behind on my reading goal. I have to read 5 more by the end of May after I finish my current book to be back on goal. Off to the "what are you reading" thread.

i loathe TikTok ... maybe it's bc dd listens to it at max volume, or every 5m she wants me to watch some new dance she learned 10x in a row, or she swears that if its on TT its the gospel truth .... ugh
We were notified yesterday that DSs soccer teammate tested positive and he has to quarantine until the end of the week. Soccer practice was on the 12th so his quarantine period was supposed to be the 13th to the 23rd but they just found out yesterday.
Soo....this is horrible. I feel completely justified when all my friends were rolling their eyes at me for not going to a game night with 15 people. I never want to do this again
Also going to ignore my nurse friend who gave me the side eye for wanting him to have the vaccine ASAP. Nope. He needs to be in school 5 days a week.
When its time for him to video chat with his teacher and class, he is like waving and smiling. The teacher asked him if he wanted to read to chapter 5 in his book, he said sure. The second the video is off he is doing these horrible screeches that sound like nails on a chalkboard to annoy me on purpose, and throwing a fit because we said no video games today. Its basically been one long drawn out fit with a few breaks sprinkled in since 9 am.
Mu kid keeps wanting to cook/bake things she finds on TikTok. It’s successful about 25% of the time and always makes a big mess. It’s exasperating bc I can tell right from the get go is something will work but she ignores my 35+ years of kitchen experience for some idiot with a cell phone.

yes it's the kitchen messes from TT that drive me nuts !! i don't mind her experimenting with cooking bc its a fun and necessary thing to learn but the messes ... omg .... it looks like my kitchen post MC audition prep - a total disaster.

I forgot I had an inspection at a plant today. Thank goodness my boss had her steel toed shoes on her for me to borrow, but I looked ridiculous. I secretly kind of dig them, though. 😂
Sometimes people really suck. I just got back from a walk that ended in tears.
I was on the paved two-way path that is probably 8 feet wide and an older couple ( I want to say maybe in their 70s) made a huge scene about me not wearing a mask (I cannot wear one due to severe PTSD from trauma involving a facial covering), when they got closer to me they moved off the path and went way into the weeds when we passed and then started screaming and yelling at me for not wearing a mask. I was totally mortified.
