The “no, but I would never cruise” responses are cracking me up.
The minute I saw the thread title I knew that was how this thread would go. I feel like 50% of the world loves cruising and thinks it's a great way to travel and the other 50% think people who cruise are disgusting cesspools of grossness. LOL
FWIW, I enjoy a good cruise and while I don't personally plan to cruise in 2022, I don't think it's the worst idea ever. I might look for a smaller cruise versus one of the mega ships.
My parents will be cruising this November.
We’ve cruised a few times and they’re fun. It’s pretty cool that your vacation vessel is entertaining/feeding you while boating you to a bunch of different places.
Yeah, there are germs and buffets. 🤷🏻♀️ Different strokes for different folks.
I don’t think there’s any way to know what 2022 will look like for international travel. I don’t think this is the worst idea ever, especially since the cruise is refundable. It’s more than a year away! Things seem to change by the week anymore.
No. The thought of an all-in-one vacation is appealing and we can drive to some ports. I really wanted to do a Disney Cruise before my daughter realized that it's not actually Mickey on the boat. But I think I will wait and see how the news stories in 2022 go before making a decision for my family.

Same. We enjoy them because they're one of the most reasonably priced ways to travel, but still feel like you're on a luxurious vacation. All inclusives are $$$$$$$$$$$$ and I don't want to stay at the Red Roof Inn all the time. I get why people think they're germy, but they take more precautions than many other places. They have for a long time. Sure--every so often you hear about some horrendous norovirus situation or something, but there are literally hundreds of cruises every week and you hear these things happen SO rarely.
Sure--some of these cruise lines had some admittedly questionable decision making skills last March, but they didn't cause this and we were all learning back in March of 2020.
So, yeah, I do hope the industry is able to come back soon. I am sure they will have a lot of precautions in place and I'm rooting for them.

No, but mainly because DH got Norovirus on the cruise we took together and that kind of hammered home how hard it is to contain contagious viruses once they start to spread. They shut down buffets, made everything as sanitary as possible, but it was an excruciating experience. If global cases go way down and vaccines seem to work super well, I could see reconsidering.
I want to, but my husband is still a hard no. Tempted to leave the kids with him and get a week alone to myself! Cruising is my favorite way to travel and I miss it.

I'm a cruiser (man, that makes me sound like I'm 80, lol). I LOVE them. The first one I ever went on was right after college w/ my then-boyfriend. I, H & E have been on 3 in the 2 years pre-pandemic, and our Alaska got cancelled (last June).
I don't know that I'm going to feel comfortable going anytime soon. Maaaaaaaybe by summer 2022, but more likely summer 2023.
If it's fully refundable, maybe go for it? I don't know--I feel like we're all (as in, all of humanity, not you PP specifically) trying to make BIG PLANS with no idea what the world is going to look like.
I enjoy cruises but after seeing people stuck on ships during the start of the pandemic I don’t think I will ever be comfortable going on one again, unfortunately.

Your last sentence hits home for me. I just can’t even picture summer 2022 so I can’t say if I would go on a cruise. I’m trying to plan a driving trip for this summer and I’m struggling. If the trip is fully refundable then I would book it and dream.

Personally I'm not a cruise fan because with my luck I'll be stuck two extra weeks with COVID, or stomach bug, whatever happens that time. On the other hand though, I feel you about having to book something...neeeeding something to look forward too. I would hope that cruise lines really take this seriously and do things mentioned above like have more space between chairs, no buffets etc. as one outbreak and they'll lose a lot of business. I'm also 200% for requiring COVID vaccines to take a cruise and lol for days at people who complain they'll need to get the shot to go on a cruise.
If the rate is really low then I say book it now, but if it's the same price I don't see a value book this early, other than the prices will obviously go up a lot when it's safe to cruise.

This is me. I'm still hoping to do an Alaskan cruise one day but I don't know when I will be comfortable with that. Probably not by 2022. Maybe 2023? We will just have to see. I am actively planning several vacations as most things are still pretty flexible but anytime I think of a cruise I think of all those people stuck on the ship just being sitting ducks for the virus. I can't do it yet.
I’ve never cruised so don’t know how it works really, but I assume I would be ok with the actual boat portion (this is assuming they have a vaccine requirement which I’m guessing they will). My concern would be where you go to port/walk around and what things look like there both in terms of their own vaccination rates plus amount of tourists from other countries with lower vaccination rates coming in etc.

Personally, no. Cruising isn't my favorite anyway, but I've been on several as my parents love it and H enjoys them also. Even pre Covid, I was always worried about virus transmission on cruise ships. I have heard several horror stories of stomach bugs and other things running rampant on cruise ships. I can't imagine being comfortable cruising anytime soon.
However, if it's something you do enjoy and it's 100% refundable, then go for it. Worse case scenario, you aren't comfortable with where the world is, Covid wise, then you cancel. Maybe have a backup plan.
We have a family AI trip planned for December. H and I will definitely be fully vaccinated (I am, H will get his second dose next week) and hopefully the vaccine is approved for 12+ soon, and DS will be eligible. The trip is cancelable w/in 24 hours of check in and nothing has to be paid until 30 days prior. We haven't booked airfare yet, but we have points on Southwest, so that is all refundable as well.

Cruises are my favorite!! We love Celebrity cruise line. I can’t wait to safely cruise again!
I’m a celebrity fan too!! Them and Royal Caribbean are my top picks.

I'm supposed to go on a Royal Caribbean cruise. Sadly, it may never happen. We were supposed to go August 2021, which obviously was cancelled so I moved it to one year later. Well, it seems pretty unlikely that cruising will be happening this August, but I don't want to keep pushing it off. goodbye dreams of sailing on the Oasis Of The Seas. Maybe someday. that being said, I wish Royal Caribbean would just cancel already and give me my money back so I can move on.

Oasis of the Seas is awesome. Our last cruise in February of last year was in Symphony of the Seas. We were due to do a Baltic Seas cruise in July this year but we canceled.
I would do it, but then we are fully vaccinated because we know it's going to be required to travel.

I gotta say, I'm partial to Holland. Probably b/c we did the Boston to Montreal cruise 2 summers ago and it was epic. We sailed on the Zaandam, a smaller ship, and it was so much less crowded and overwhelming. My son even made 2 friends--a brother/sister pair, who actually lived in the next town over from us before moving to NY. These two cuties had dinner w/ us most nights (parents gave their blessing), kids hung out at kids' club together, we all had a blast (we hung out with the parents on the ship too). That cruise was amazing. Mussels on PEI, lobster almost every night, French-Canadian fare in Quebec City & Montreal (I love food, lol).
We had Princess booked for Alaska, and we will probably stick with them when we rebook (we got a full refund, so we're not bound to that, though). And even though I was enamored with the smaller Zaandam ship, I still want to sail on a megaliner one day--maybe it's Royal Caribbean? In Europe?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Two things:
#1 cruising is a preferred method of international travel because its generally a cheaper way to see a variety of different locations. Let’s not assume everyone can financially just jet off to Europe with their family for a week. It always annoys me when people are like, “oh just go to the country.”
#2 Let’s not forget we have a different President and leadership now than when did when those boats were just floating aimlessly at sea for weeks. I would to assume Biden wouldn’t leave Americans stranded at sea.
Yes, I would book a refundable cruise and am considering booking one for next February myself. You can always cancel later if things aren’t better, but I think it will be a different world once vaccines are broadly available.
We went to Greece for our honeymoon and I would much rather stay on a few islands! The food is so good! And so many little restaurants and areas to explore. We only did Santorini and Naxos but would have done Crete if we could have fit it in.
I would suggest this too! We went to Santorini for our 10 year anniversary, and loved it. We would have gone to a few other islands if we had time!
I would happily go to Greece but I would not cruise. I do not support the cruise industry for a multitude of reasons including massive air and water pollution, the fact they pay most workers less than $2 an hour and force them to work 70-90 hour weeks with no overtime, rampant sexual assaults and other crimes committed on cruises that go unreported because of international water laws, and that the companies based here register all their ships in other countries to intentionally get away with all of this. There’s a reason they’re so cheap.

All of this. Please do not support the cruise industry.
