How is it only Wednesday?? I have worked late the past 2 nights and don’t have another late night in me today. We are supposed to have terrible weather here this afternoon. I’m hoping it holds out until DS gets home from school.
An acquaintance emailed me that she has a client that is interested in buying my house and asked if we are interested in selling. Acquaintance has been to my house and I guess described it? We have considered it recently but aren’t making any big decisions until at least July maybe even October. So weird. I didn’t think this thing happened IRl !

I'm so bored with teaching this year. It's the same stuff day in and day out, everyone on computers, virtual labs, no real group work. I'm over it, and we still have 2+ months to go.

Lucy has been working in the living room this week, and OMG seventh grade really is pretty boring.
I feel so bad though- I’ve always said that her home room teacher sounds like the teacher from Peanuts. Wah wah wah-wah. I just heard her tell the class that she used to be a music teacher and she has vocal cord paralysis! I feel like a dick now. Sorry Mrs M.
She also says that she was a kindergarten teacher before and there aren’t too many differences between them and 7th graders. I wanted to tell her that there’s not much difference between either and college students, but again. Lucy. Would. Die. If her classmates knew she had a mother so
It was nice to wake up to a mid year "just cause" company wide bonus. I am very lucky to work for a company that gives back to their employees.
New glasses still giving me a headache. Maybe it is just a stress headache. I did get a good night sleep last night and my mood is better today. Today we go to the new school and check out the program they want to put DD in. Then Friday we have the ARD meeting. At least I don't feel like crying today so far.
I got my second shot yesterday so I took today off just in case. I feel fine, thankfully so I plan to do some landscaping, workout and clear out the DVR. Good timing as I’ve had some traumatically shitty things going on so I’ll also follow up with my PCP today to renew my lexapro.
If anyone remembers my earlier post, I was able to avoid PTA President and just get runner up of VP, lol! I'm friends with the soon to be President and our daughters are in the same grade, so I'm looking forward to next year. DH still thinks it's hilarious that I explicitly said I would not be an office, just volunteer and yet, cannot say no.
Work is a hot mess of micromanaging the last couple weeks. Today's tipping point was an email with a question about something that is actually being staffed in the office of the person asking the question. Ummm, ask your coworkers? We all shook our heads and then had to figure out a tactful way to say "WTF?"
I need to go through my clothes and sell some more. I sold 1 thing yesterday, but I know I need to look at my shorts. I also really want a pair of chambray, so maybe Friday when I'm off I can check a couple places for pairs. I don't want a 3" inseam, which seems to be the most popular.

Oy. Our school brought back group work and hands on learning last quarter. Everyone is much happier for it.
Everyone is still beyond burned out though. Teachers, parents, kids. Now it's all about how many tests can we cram into the next five weeks. So far it seems like 87 million. Hurry up summer.
ProfessorArtNerd, I have always joked that the eating habits of my university students is similar to kinders. In fact one time I was buying a LOT of snacks for training and the cashier asked if I worked at a pre-school LOL

MIL sent a text yesterday saying that she saw a condo she likes and wants to take money from her 401k to pay for it in cash. I immediately started freaking out and H was on a super long conference call so I had to hold it in for 2 hours. I'm pretty sure FIL handled all the finances, and he passed away last July. MIL didn't realized that she would have to pay income tax on the distribution, which would be about $75000 for the amount she would need. We talked her out of the condo, but I guess now that we know she's looking we really need to get started helping her clean out her house and getting it ready to sell.
My bff is going through something similar with her mom, and she's basically taken control of all of her finances, which sounds so stressful. I'm not sure if that's necessary with MIL, but she doesn't make great financial decisions.

I have a weird muscle spasm above my eye and it's driving me crazy. I noticed it yesterday afternoon, and was hoping that with wearing my glasses instead of my contacts today, my eyes would "rest" enough that it would go away. No such luck.
Also, it's snowing here today (WTH, it's mid-April!) and I hope my boss doesn't judge my cozy sweatshirt that I'll be wearing during our video call 1:1 later this morning.
Relevant to the texting kids at school post: My son just texted me from the tail end of his study hall to say that his class just spent the whole period debating whether Wyoming is real. He has spent most of the year telling me that I wouldn't believe the stupid things his fellow 7th graders say and do. I LOL'd for real. (No flames: he was texting from study hall and it's literally the first message he has ever sent me during the school day).
ETA: Apparently this is a Thing. There is a whole subreddit debating it, and also: iswyomingreal.com/
The front path to our house is a combination of pavers, bricks and pebble gravel. I hate it because the weeds in the gravel section and between the pavers/bricks are out of control. Over the years the gravel has mostly gone missing from me pulling out the weeds and just natural erosion. I just went in and filled it in with new gravel. It looks so good!! $10 and 1 hour.
In a few years I still want to replace it with something less weedy but hopefully the new gravel helps for a few years!
I went to get gas today, and there was a hornet building a nest in the gas cap hole (whatever that is called). I used my credit card to knock out the nest, but the hornet was still in there when I drove away. I will have to check again later and maybe spray if it seems like it's still there. I legitimately hadn't gotten gas in that car yet this calendar year (and I think this was only the 2nd or 3rd time since the pandemic started!) so I guess it seemed like a safe place to camp out, lol.
I am in the office today and I have to admit I don't mind it. Being here makes me feel like a real, grown up person who has a life and places to go. I'm glad I don't yet have to do it every day, but at least I know now that I don't need to dread it either.
I also just made an appointment for this afternoon to go look at gas fireplaces at a showroom so apparently retail therapy is a part of my mental health day. 🤷♀️ Not sorry.

Just got my 2nd dose this AM after dropping kids off at school. Going to finish putting up laundry, run the dishwasher, take out trash, and do some general prep type stuff to help out in case I am out of commission tonight and tomorrow.
There is a Cardinal nest right outside of my back window. After an unfortunate incident last year where I accidentally killed a nest full of eggs, I'm excited to watch these babies hatch from a distance. We happen to have an extra Blink Camera so I'm trying to convince H to install it so I can watch the nest more easily. Mama bird flies away whenever I get too close, but my dogs have been sitting in front of the window watching her and she doesn't even get phased.
I'm thinking of ordering some bikinis. I do not have a bikini body, but we have a pool, and I hate trying to squeeze my fat self in to a one piece. I have a bunch in my cart but haven't been able to pull the trigger.

Lucy Lima Bean has eaten, been drinking water, and just used the litter box. Check, check, and check. The only thing now is that the dogs are still getting use to her. Two of our dogs are fine, but our great dane is being extra anxious about her and almost snapping at her. He is such a gentle dog that I really don't think he has any intention of hurting her, but she's so little that I think he could accidentally hurt her.
We are going out of town the weekend after next and having someone from Rover stay at our house. I hope there is drastic improvement by then. I don't want to ask her to try to police my dane from accidentally eating the kitten.
My kid who normally really likes school if just over this year & keeps talking about not wanting to go to school. I just think this year has been taxing on everyone. She has been face to face nearly the entire year so has been having a more "normal" experience than many others but I think enough is different that it's noticeable to even a 2nd grader. I'm so thankful for her teacher especially who has been incredibly supportive of the kids and their needs.
It's freezing here (like so many other places!) and I'm just ready for warm weather and I want to sit out on my deck in the sunshine!

I tried to do a lab, and then a student told her mom, and her mom snitched to the principal that I wasn't following safety protocols. Except I was, I just had kids moving to other desks.

bex1973. My 3 were virtual this year until this last quarter and 2 of the 3 really wanted to go back to school. Now even they are just ready for it to be over. It's a lot for everyone.
I do have to commend DS2's teacher. When we returned to in person my other 2 kept the teachers they had virtually, but DS2 got a new one. This year has seen shortages in subs and bus drivers. DS2's teacher, who has been teaching 30 plus years, started driving a bus to help fill the void. He drives the bus, teaches a full day, and gets on that bus again in the afternoon. He has now organized a bike ride for the entire grade. He is going to put in a full day, get off that bus and lead x number of 4th graders on a 5 mile bike ride to a park to play. He also is a musician and keeps a guitar in the classroom and if kids are having a rough time he plays a song. Each AM before snack he takes the class on a walk outside around the school. So thankful for him and I really hope DD gets in his class in 2 years.

Are you in a hot market? We get the ‘I have a client who would be interested in your house’ solicitations about once a year from realtors in the area. Sometimes it’ll be a paper flyer to everyone in the neighborhood. I think it’s a pretty common way to drum up business here. Is this who you’d choose to work with otherwise if you sold?

I am so tired of DH snoring, I'm just tired & grumpy in general right now. I am coming into the office 4 days this week and it is exhausting. Between coming into the office more, and both kids going back in-person I don't think I have the stamina.
One of DDs classmates regularly misses school becaxue there is no one to take her. (Divorced parents, dad won’t help with transportation if it isn’t his day and mom’s work meetings often overlap with school commute hours). Yesterday DD came home and said the child would miss Wed and Thursday of this week. I feel bad for the kid for missing so much school. So I texted her mom and offered to take her both mornings and bring her home today. Her response? ‘Can you also pick up tomorrow - I’m going to be tired after a long day of work meetings?’
Lady, you live in the opposite direction of the school from our house. It adds a half hour (per drop off/pick up) to include your kid into our school commute. I feel like my offer was already very generous but I can’t fix everything for you. (We can’t do it anyway because we have an obligation tomorrow afternoon)

I was all ready to pay 2 bills online and exchange some money, which should have taken about 5 minutes total, and between various websites being down and the exchange rate having chosen today to take a nosedive, I have managed to do 1 of the 3 things in like half an hour.
My teenager started in-person high school today and he’s sooooo excited! There are only six weeks left so I questioned the necessity but clearly he feels he needs this so I’m happy for him. However, the antics of this morning made it clear that there must have been some common sense loss during the past year. He got a text five minutes before we left that a friend needed a ride because his dad had an early meeting. Friend lives close enough to walk but didn’t think about it in time to actually make the walk. We’ve known about this day for weeks so I’m unsure how this didn’t compute. Then, we had to come back to the house twice for books because my son didn’t think he’d need them and only grabbed one book the first time we came back. We went to pick up the friend who didn’t have his notebook for his math test because he had left it at his mom’s. He and DS1 are going to meet up between classes to swap notes; neither could figure out how they would find each other between classes. I’m absolutely certain DS1 will give his friend his entire notebook and forget to keep paper for his own class. Friend also forgot to grab a mask and had to run back inside and search for one making us even later. This kid’s dad is a critical care doctor and there are masks all over their house. It ended off with DS1 asking me how his friend was getting home after school. Um, I don’t know, Son. I did not birth this child so I haven’t been overly concerned with his school travel plan. I absolutely love these boys but it’s clear there is a reason 14 year olds aren’t allowed to live on their own. Bless their hearts. I hope more synapses start firing here soon. In the end they made it to school on time (barely) and safely so all is well.

DS is a freshman and in-person at school. He asked if he could go to a bonfire birthday party Friday night for an older girl. I’m going to tell him no because my town/state isn’t taking this seriously and I don’t know these people. My guess is there will be no safety measures in place and/or they’ll end up in the house most of the night because it’s cold here. He’s going to be so disappointed and I feel bad but we’re in a fucking global pandemic. This is the first thing he’s asked to do since March 2020. I’m hoping the vaccine is approved for teens soon so he might be able to do some outdoors stuff when it warms up.

I’m already regretting the offer, lol.
When my youngest was in preschool I somehow ended up offering to pick up and drop off a classmate bc the weird midday preschool hours made it tough for his WFM mom. Both directions were on the way but I had to quit after a few weeks bc I found the job annoying. We carpool for soccer with my 14 yo's teammates and I find that equally annoying. Maybe I just don't like other people's kids. Hmm...
