A child in foster care for God’s sake, among the most vulnerable. Unclear whether she called for help or someone else.
For comparison’s sake and to arm anyone who still engages racists in social media If a hammer-wielding man known to have just beaten another man with boards can be taken into custody, then a 16 yo child who might or might not have had a knife could have been de-escalated too.
This is my city. I watched the live Facebook videos of people on the scene after the fact, recording to document. She called the police because the girls were there to jump her. She grabbed a knife to defend herself.
One of the cops guarding the scene actually said “blue lives matter”. The cop who shot her just stood at her feet nonchalantly while she lay there.
This is the third officer shooting of a black person on a very short time.
The number of white men who go on shooting rampages with assault weapons and are somehow taken peacefully into custody vs. the number of BIPOC people without firearms with whom law enforcement has "no other choice" but to shoot...

An average of 4.81 per million people were killed in the county, according to the Alliance – the 18th highest rate of fatal police shootings among America’s 100 most populous counties.
The Alliance used data from the Washington Post’s police shootings database to determine that in Ohio the rate of Black people killed by police was 339% higher than white fatalities.

I know. We’re in turmoil here. Police racism, increased homicides, etc. Franklin County was redlined long ago and that contributes to the fact that the life expectancy in my ZIP code is 20 years higher than that of a friend of mine, just 15 miles away.
Just 5 months ago a sheriff’s deputy shot a young man in the back in the doorway of his home. No repercussions for the officer.

The more I read about this, the more upset I get. The stats on this are astounding on top of the loss of life (lives, really).
