I’m reading Greenwood by Michael Christie, which is excellent so far. Traces a family and their connection to a tree-filled island, moving backwards in time.
QOTW: I feel dumb, because I can’t figure out how to do podcasts. The only time I have for audio anything is in the car, so I guess I could download them and listen then, but my commute isn’t that long
I finished How Beautiful We Were at the beginning of the week. Another strong and beautifully written book by Imbolo Mbue.
I also read The Exiles. I actually finished it this morning. I’ll share my thoughts in the upcoming book club thread.
QOTW: I love the idea of podcasts. Many months ago, toward the beginning of the pandemic, I started to listen to The Office podcast with Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer while working out. I think I was able to get through three episodes before I just started to watch TV again. It was a good podcast too (I listened via my phone) but I found that if I had such a small window of time to myself that I generally preferred to continue a binge-watch on Netflix or other streaming service.
I finished The Midnight Library, 4* and The Unhoneymooners, 3.5*. I'm starting The Night Swim tonight.
QOTW: No. I've heard ads for a few that I thought sounded interesting, but I don't listen to pod casts for the same reason I don't listen to audio books. They take too much concentration and I can't work, drive, etc. while listening to them because I end up tuning them out. At night I have no want to listen to audio, I'd rather read.
Earlier this week I read Every Vow You Break. It was really enjoyable and hard to put down. A bit over the top and implausible but I'm not complaining.
Now I am reading The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas. It's definitely interesting and a different take on time travel. It's a bit hard to follow with a lot of characters and time points but I am interested to see where it goes.
QOTW: I do not listen to podcasts. I can't pay attention while doing other things and don't have any desire to sit and focus on one. I rarely listen to audiobooks for the same reason.
I'm having a very slow reading week. Still reading The Skies of Pern (it's really not holding my attention) and listening to Stephen King's The Outsider. The latter is good but long.
QOTW: I have an Android phone and listen using the Podcast Addict app. I'm kind of "meh" about it but haven't found one I like better. My podcast time varies a lot depending on what audiobook I have downloaded. For both, I listen while in the car, walking the dog, and doing chores around the house.
I See You Made an Effort: Compliments, Indignities, and Survival Stories from the Edge of 50 by Annabelle Gurwitch (eh)
Finding Freedom in the Lost Kitchen by Erin French (good but she glossed over a lot)
The Other Wife by Claire McGowan
The Fall by Claire McGowan (her books are a little soapy but she always has an interesting and diverse group of characters)
When Women Invented Television: The Untold Story of the Female Powerhouses Who Pioneered the Way We Watch Today by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong (interesting women but poorly written)
Phantom Twin by Lisa Brown (fun graphic novel)
QOTW: on my iPhone with the Overcast app. I normally listen in the car or when washing dishes or (rarely) weaving. I have an old car and don’t bother with speakers at home so I just blast it straight from my phone lol
I suffered through The Villain by LJ Shen. This was my second books of hers, but I’ve realized she’s not a good writer. I don’t know how she ended up on Goodreads awards last year. There were so many issues with this book.
Currently Reading Findlay Donovan is Killing It I want to like this one, but I’m not really liking the whole “my husband left me and now I’m helpless” theme. Why are people writing weak women still?
QOTW: I used to listen to podcasts when I walked during lunch at work. Since I only go in 1x a week, my listening has gone way down.
I think some people listen while they clean. I’m not into AirPods though, so maybe that hinders things.
I have been reading Shadow of Night and listening to The Exiles. Both are good. I hope to finish both this weekend, but fitting a pit of other stuff in.
Re: Podcasts I listen to them very sporadically. Sometimes while I’m sewing, but generally I’ve found I tend to listen to books instead.

I’m glad you enjoyed Every Vow!
I read Hench which was recommended here and was probably one of my favorites this year. It was just so entertaining.
QOTW: I will occasionally get into a podcast series and listen on my iPhone. I use the podcast app from the App Store. Podcast and audiobooks aren’t my favorite bc I like to listen with headphones to really stay with it but it’s hard to do so with my toddler around.
Slow week for me but super excited that my library just jot the audio book for Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe. Cant wait to read that on 14-16 weeks!

Currently reading Caste. It's fascinating and educating (also absolutely horrific in some spots) but pretty long so I'll be working on it for a while I think! Oh and still listening to All the Ugly and Wonderful Things. I'm pretty far in now and it's so interesting to see people's opinions on it. I definitely have a hard time listening to it but I'm pushing through because I want to know how it ends!
I used to listen to podcasts more often when I worked in the office. I was listening to them on Stitcher, then started listening to some on Spotify. I'd listen to them on my work computer with my headphones on. I listen occasionally in the car but I don't drive as much anymore and I'm usually listening to a book or music. I don't really prefer Spotify for podcasts though. Stitcher is way better IMO. I just have a much harder time paying attention to talking now in my newer role at work!
I finished The Year of Magical Thinking for one of my book clubs, and I feel badly that Joan Didion lost her husband in such a traumatic manner, but I really did not care for this book. It was very rambling. Currently reading The Ice Cream Girls, which someone here recommended to me two years ago, and I'm just now getting around to reading. I'm about 40% of the way through and it's good so far.
QOTW: I listen on my laptop when I'm cleaning - I'll turn it on and put the laptop in whichever room I'm working on. Sometimes also I'll listen to them on my laptop while playing dumb FB games. Occasionally my H will turn one on via the Alexa and we'll listen together. I'll also put them on an SD card and put them in my car, but that's only for long trips, not daily driving. I don't listen often though. Maybe once or twice a week.
