The day is not over but I have a migraine so I’m guessing this is it for April:
The Push by Claire McGowan
Mike Nichols: A Life by Mark Harris (so long! And strangely gave little insight in the the man’s life)
Already Toast: Caregiving and Burnout in America by Kate Washington
The One by John Marrs
What You Did by Claire McGowan
Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust: My Friendship with Patsy Cline by Loretta Lynn
Mother May I by Joshilyn Jackson
The Hare by Melanie Finn (grim)
The Girls Are All So Nice Here by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn
Other People's Children by R.J. Hoffman (so bad)
To Be Honest by Michael Leviton (this was fascinating)
The Souvenir Museum: Stories by Elizabeth McCracken
I See You Made an Effort: Compliments, Indignities, and Survival Stories from the Edge of 50 by Annabelle Gurwitch
Finding Freedom in the Lost Kitchen by Erin French (I felt like she glossed over a lot!)
The Other Wife by Claire McGowan
The Fall by Claire McGowan
When Women Invented Television: The Untold Story of the Female Powerhouses Who Pioneered the Way We Watch Today by Jennifer Keishin Armstrong (the women were interesting but the writing was poor IMO)
Phantom Twin by Lisa Brown
Mirrorland by Carole Johnstone (I enjoyed this: twins! Scotland! Mysterious house! Murder!)
The Winter's Child by Cassandra Parkin (twist on the usual missing kid trope)
We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops, and Corruption by Justin Fenton
Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Suntanto
I read a lot of Claire McGowan. They aren’t the best but she does provide some actual economic and racial diversity in her books which is rare in mysteries, especially those from the UK we can get here IMO. They are good for when you don’t have a ton of brain power left.
I had a pretty good reading month because of the nice weather. I found myself reading outside most days after work.
The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny American Royals by Katherine McGee The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline Every Vow You Break by Peter Swanson The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas Majesty by Katherine McGee
They were all good but not my favorites of the year. If I were to recommend one it would be the time travel book since it's an interesting take on the genre.

I was in a bit of a slump this month due to work, 2nd COVID shot for both me and DH, kid sports starting again, not having the right book, and other distractions.
I Like To Watch: Arguing My Way Through the TV Revolution by Emily Nussbaum - 2* I am a TV junkie and thought this book was right up my alley, but it was not. I was so bored. I didn't like the writing style and I gave up reading anything that wasn't about shows I had seen.
Rule of Wolves (King of Scars #2) by Leigh Bardugo - 4* I really like this series and all the characters.
The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez - 4* I knew how the book was going to resolve pretty much a quarter of the way through and I was dreading it. I also was shocked by Brandon. I liked the characters a lot though.
