DD1 played softball again yesterday and worked her butt off. It was warm and she caught for 2 innings. She was really hustling, and even caught a foul pop-up. I haven’t seen a catcher do that all season in this league.
I really thought they were going to win. But they had a bad inning where a new pitcher walked every batter that she faced. So they lost. DD1 played 1st after catching, but there was literally not one opportunity for her to make a play.
She continues to struggle at the plate. 0-3 with a walk. Struck out twice looking. Her last at-bat, she drilled the ball right to the short stop. She didn’t even get out of the batter’s box before it was caught. She hit it so hard. So I’m hoping that will encourage her to swing more because the pitcher was good.
DD2 is playing soccer today. It’s going to be 90°. It’s just a scrimmage, so I want to keep her home, but DH is insisting that she has to go because she missed last week due to her cold/ear infection. I told him he can take her and stand there in the heat with no shade. He was drunk and agreed. And how he’s hinting that he’d really rather not go. Too bad pal. You made this mess.
DD had a great state gymnastic meet. She took 1st for bars. She is level 3 state bars champion. It didn't even sink in until we got home and I had an email from the gym titled wow with the head coach congratulating DD on an amazing meet. She got a 9 or better on vault, bars, and beam but still struggled on floor. No handspring but the coaches told her not to do it if she thought she was going to fall as they didn't want the fall. Her bridge kick over went wonky and she did this awesome looking twist in the air and landing it but that was another goo deduction. Oh well. Hopefully this week will go well at practice. We stopped Saturday to see her private lesson coach and she came running up to DD and gave her a huge hug and swung her around.
DD2 had 3 games yesterday and today. It was 47° and raining both days. But what a great time!
Game 1 - DD2 had a couple of shots on net, and a beautiful, perfectly executed assist. They won that game 4-0.
Game 2 - the other team was amazing and came out hard. They scored 2 quick goals against our best GK - the kids were stunned. They fought hard but ended up losing 3-0. DD2 had a couple of shots on net, but nothing got in.
Game 3 - DD2 scored her first goal on a penalty kick!! I was so happy for her - she’s been working for one goal all season! She had been playing defense most of the year (really her strength) but he moved her up to offense today (they play 7v7 at this age, so they have a striker, 2 midfield, and 3 backs - she usually plays back, moved to midfield today). She was so proud of herself! They won 2-1
DD had the second of five straight weekends of all-star softball tournaments this weekend - our league hosted and there was one game each day. On Saturday she scored her first home run, so that was really exciting. But she didn’t play well at all today at first base. She really likes that position, so I’m hoping she can improve and not cause the coach to move her. It’s amazing that it’s only been three weeks on this team - and she’s only had four days in the past three weeks that there hasn’t been a long practice or game.
