Dear k3am We are now a fish family. DD2 convinced me that instead of buying her a toy for making it through her testing, she wanted a fish. And since a fish is less than $5, it fit in the budget I gave her at Five Below. Her joy could not be contained that I said yes. I woke up this morning to the thing hanging out near the top of the water near the filter and almost had a heart attack that it was already dead after less than 24 hours. But he swam around when I tapped on the tank. How is a fish the most stressful kind of pet?! Signed, Fish Mom
k3am,Just since yesterday. The pet store said we could put the fish in after the water got up to room temp. It's a betta fish. I ordered him a little heater to add in today.
I realize we are still in the middle of a pandemic. However, just a little direction would be great. I dont know if I suck, or am killing it or if I am focusing on the right things. When I ask, no response. I'll still take it over my last situation.

The pet store lied to you. It’s what they do. Fish pee in the water, which makes ammonia. In a cycled tank, there is beneficial bacteria to get your nitrites and nitrates right, which keeps the ammonia levels down. In a new tank that isn’t cycled, the ammonia will typically kill the fish within a few days (bigger tanks with less fish have less issues since the ammonia dilutes). Some folks luck out though. I think some folks with bettas in a small bowl just do daily water changes? Seems like a hassle.
Buy a water testing kit (API master kit) and siphon for water changes and search up doing a “fish in cycle.”
Thanks for telling me we don’t need to do a Covid test since it appears both kids have the same non-Covid virus that’s making the rounds. But ugh. My fever runner is puking and my puker is running a fever.

Dear other gym members, Get off your cell phone! There are fewer pieces of equipment for covid spacing and I don't want to spend all day at the gym waiting while you're scrolling through FB. Signed, It's hard enough to be motivated
twinmomma, I should also mention.. fish are a gateway pet. Ours were a "well, you can't have a dog, so you get fish" kind of pet, and within weeks I was searching for dogs.. And now we have more fish. And if we had a bigger tank, we'd have even more fish, because more fish > 1 or 2. I'd really like a salt water tank, but that'd get really expensive fast.. Signed, The woman who really likes her fish after hating them for a while (I guess you know it gets better!)

Oh that’s the worse! We set up a tiny home gym in our garage (our very hot garage! In Florida! ) because when H was free to go, after kid dropoff in the mornings, the Y was full of friendly old guys socializing from the weight benches. Not ideal for a before-work workout.
Spaces for before/aftercare are limited in a normal year. They don't get better during a pandemic year. So maybe, next time you send a registration form to save a spot, you actually hit SEND.

Dear WP
I don't want to sell and move and I don't want to remodel while remodel prices are crazy. Does it make sense to pull out equity and hold it until things calm down while rates are low? Or is that stupid?
k3am, I'm fully aware that this is a gateway pet. DD1 fell in LOVE with a hamster at a pet store the other day. I told her she has to earn it, but I'm honestly considering buying it and taking care of it in the basement without telling her until she "earns" it because she will be devastated if that exact one is not available when she finally gets to go buy it. There will 100% be at least one hamster in my house in a couple months, if not three, because all the kids will want one at that point.
mustardseed2007 , we did that. The house next to us sold for a lot higher, so we used that comp to refinance. However, the amount that we pulled out is not enough to do our renovation. So that is disappointing, and I don't know how renovation prices will be in the future. Will they come down? Will they stay high?
Our contractor said lots do the renovation then refinance to pay off the construction loan maybe. So I was like why didn't I think of that? But I think the result would have been the same anyway. I think there would have still been a gap between the value of the house with the addition and the equity we have.
We are proceeding with our renovation since even though it is higher than we thought, it wasn't beyond our budget I guess. And with all the car drama, I posted about here, if we sell our current car we will make a profit because used cars are priced high lately, and the car we are leasing has lower payments anyway, so I guess it works out, maybe ish.

k3am, I bet we could although I would think a home equity loan would have a better interest rate but of course the flexibility is a nice idea?
The whole idea of pulling it now is because interest rates are low but obviously remodeling is not.
Our school is building a new middle school building, the plans have been in place for years and they were finally getting to the point where they could do it and then this building boom/shortage whatever it is happened and now the school is going to cost 1 million more than originally planned
twinmomma, We have had betta fish for years, and I change the water about every week or so. I use the betta conditioning drops from the pet store or Walmart. We also have this super cheap bowl which I love, that I can pour water into midweek and it will suck some of the gross water into the back. The pet store has it at like $20, but I think it was less than $10 on amazon.
Puppy playdates A bunch of the girls have gotten puppies on DD's gymnastics team. We are having a puppy play date after practice on Friday in the parking lot. My old lady gets to go and be over stimulated by a bunch of babies. I think it is really sweet that the girls want to hold a puppy date. Me
People/clients No we aren't open 24/7 right now. No we don't have to work 24/7 because you procrastinated. Yes you are going on extension because you procrastinated. You had a full extra month and still are bringing it in a few days before deadline. Frustrated Tax lady
Thank you for the timely email about Telehealth appointments. I loved signing in, waiting 5 minutes, and having a pediatrician call me to get the anti nausea meds called in. Plus the comfort of hearing again that a Covid test isn’t warranted.
Please pray for my sister's family. They are on day 12 of Covid. May 1 was the exposure. One kid is finally back to school. The other one just now started running a fever. My sister is in for some problems because he sleeps all day and up all night. Always been bad but got way worse with Covid. Her husband is slightly better, Sunday she couldn't leave him because he was so bad, and she thought she had to take him to ER.
Signed, been worried for about 11 days.
Dear dad,
Well you've always been kind of shady, but now you appear to be losing it. After we told him sister's family has Covid he didn't respond. Didn't ask if they were OK. Then says he was letting it sink in. Then I tell him everyone is bad but her because she was vaccinated, he messages her and asks how she and her daughter are doing. She has 2 sons and no daughters. He refuses to talk about his medical conditions, so part of me thinks he is coming to visit to tell us bad news. He lives in South America, so there isn't anything we can do at all, unless maybe a doctor or a friend contacts us. He has a series of crazy girlfriends, so one of them has contacted us but luckily they broke up because he told us that she stabbed him. This was 2 years ago, so we haven't heard from any of his friends since then.
mustardseed2007 , alleged/ attempted stabbing? He didn't tell us, he told BIL and said don't tell us, which of course BIL did because you can't keep that a secret. Both dad and BIL are a bit out there. Lately, I'm more inclined to believe BIL.

waverly, sorry that your family is going through that.
Dear Realtor,
Sending me a text to let me know that the rental property needs "a lot of maintenance items to take care of", then not following up, is kind of annoying.
Dear allergies, I hate you. My eyes are so puffy and uncomfortable. Beau asked me if I had been crying this morning when he saw me. I just want to lay down with a cold cloth on my face, not stare at a computer screen all day. Signed, Grumpy and stuffy
