Ugh, May was rough with way too much going on. We are scaling back a bit and hoping June is less hectic. Last summer was so perfect, minimal sports practices, no meets/games - just lots of family time on the weekends, I am just trying to recreate that a little.
DD1 - track is over (God, it really is the worst sport) and she is back to training for swim full time. Summer training for XC begins later this month, and she will do that just two mornings a week. This weekend will be her first official LC swim meet of the season, and we are EXCITED for it!
DD2 - made the comp team for gymnastics, but I am not all that excited about it. Gymnastics is just a brutal sport and honestly I am just not a fan of it at all, certainty not $400/month worth. So, I have decided to keep her on the rec in house team for another year. She seems fine with that and looking forward to a very low key summer swimming in our pool and playing with her friends rather then sweating it out in the gym 4 days a week.
DD3 - finished soccer and gymnastics and starts swim team next week. If she likes it, she will swim 3-4 days a week, and we won't and anything else for her for the rest of the summer. Selfishly, I am really praying I have another swimmer. Not even because I love competitive swim (which I do!), but because you can't beat the price! God, dance, soccer, gym - are just ridiculous. I won't pay more for a sport than I contribute to their college accounts in a month!
OSU you is offering gymnastic camp this summer. 3 days Friday-Sunday for $500. A bunch of the parents at the gym are talking about it and is it worth it. The camp is 45 minutes from us and no overnight feature this year. I said no way between the $$$ and daily commute. Plus this is a camp that doesn't' benefit me as a working parent as it is on the freaking weekend. I figured it out and DD can do 22 private lessons for the camp fee. I think this would make more sense if it was a senior varsity type camp that was more college recruiting than just fun rec time.
madringal, oh my DD's gym fees plus the privates don't add up to $400 a month. Ouch
Summer break doesn't start until the 21st but I'm hoping we get out summer workout schedule soon so I can start planning some time for me during practices.
DD2’s coach nominated her for team of the week this week. She had a great tournament over the weekend, and she would be over the moon if she got it. She has worked so hard and the coach has built up her confidence so much after her experience in the fall season.
Team of the week is really kind of a silly thing. They put out a roster across social media made up of players across the club - boys and girls, U9 to U19. That’s it. But she would love it!
FFC - I mentioned the nomination to my sister. My niece is one of the best players in the club, and very tight with the head coaches. I’m secretly hoping that my niece talks to the coaches. 😬
My summer theme is sports. But actually DS’s spring soccer is ending very soon, but DD’s lasts a bit longer. Maybe my summer theme should be pool instead.
I signed up for swim lessons and they are back in camp which is super exciting. It feels normal and they are 95% outside so Covid risk is very slim. And they do wear masks when not socially distant. I am grateful for a normal summer!
DD2 made Team of the Week!! She is so, so proud of herself. She has worked so hard. I pointed out that it wasn’t just kids her age - it’s across the club. Like 500 kids. She was shocked.
I’m just do happy for her. She had a tough fall season with a bad coach that got fired. She was at a low point and starting to dislike soccer when we moved her to this team. She found her groove and her coach was amazing. He’s leaving the club and I’m so bummed. But I’m hopeful for next year.
