We did AoA suite in March 2020 with my parents which was great, but by Jan 2022 for the next trip we will have a 3.5 yo and 6mth old and for a full feel week we need more space.
I want the 3.5 year old to still feel like this is a special trip, but she won’t remember it so I’m not going all out. We need at least 2 bedrooms (my parents are coming again, but we don’t mind sharing with the kids as long as there are enough beds) to put the kids to sleep early and still have adult time in a living room. Is it better to do a 2 bedroom at a big resort at Bonnet Creek, or an airbnb a few more minutes away?
I know it will not be hot, but must have a pool(s), would like playgrounds or splash pads. We are happy enough to do some of our own cooking so don’t need a lot of food options, and don’t care about a cleaning service.
I can answer any questions you might have about local short term rentals (Airbnb). Closest resort is Windsor Hills. It's older but very reasonable. If you're willing to go about 15 minutes away from Disney, Windsor Island is amazing. I'm biased, since we're building there, but it has an insane amount of amenities and is brand new. The clubhouse opens in September and since a lot of the homes aren't available yet, it will be really quiet. All townhomes are 5 bedroom and have a small pool. They have a fantastic floorplan and are about $200/night. If you want a single family home, the smallest are also 5 bedroom and cost around $270/night. If you're interested in Windsor Island, I can help you find a place as they aren't the easiest to locate since the resort is so new.
I have no personal experience, but adds for The Grove started popping up on my FB feed after I searched for Orlando hotels. Looks like you get a lot more space for the money compared to WDW onsite.
You cannot beat Wyndham Bonnet Creek. We've stayed there six different times and had a great experience every time. We love the location, pools, playground, all of it. Feel free to ask if you have any specific questions.
Thanks everyone, right now we are booked at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek through AirBnB, so I think we are on the time share side versus hotel side, from what I understand. I am a little nervous because this listing does not have any reviews, but I assume the unit is the same as all the rest so it should be fine.
I didn't realize the military tickets were really late coming out last year (mid-Jan), and our trip is the end of Jan, so I hope they get back on to the normal release date (Sept) time frame because the budget for this trip is based on those ticket prices!

I've been looking at this for hopefully 2022, but do you drive or rent a car? I priced Uber randomly and it looks like for my family of 6 we'd be looking at $60-100/day to and from the parks (looks like $48 for the Bonnet Creek shuttle?).

We rent a car. We usually have annual passes and don't have to pay for parking at Disney, but even when we haven't had APs we still rent a car.

we have reserved a minivan through Costco, it’s about $600 for a week at the end of Jan. Parking is free at the condo (if you go the hotel side it’s a $17/day). It is $25/day at the parks but it’s a one time fee if you have park hopper passes so at least you can still move between the parks.
Bonnet Creek but go through Vacation Strategy. We had a 3 BR pres suite for 9 days and paid $1000 first week of December). The Master was huge - king bed, jacuzzi tub, seperate shower and bathroom, the other rooms were a king bed and two queens. It took 9 minutes in an uber to get to the park. We drove a car as well - most times we were home before my SIL who was staying in Fort Wilderness campground when she took the bus/boat.
Edited to add - this was Dec 2018 (so pre covid) and make sure you are looking at the time shares/condos not the hotel.
