I was driving between Portland and Seattle yesterday and there was a fire along the median of the highway. Luckily they had it well under control but it's just a reminder of how dry everything is right now.
We have an outdoor wedding to go to in Bigfork, Montana next weekend and the smoke looks horrid.
We are still at risk of losing the only power line into our city of 60,000 because of a fire in the back country surrounding a portion of the lines. It keeps flickering a few times a day. If it goes out, it will be weeks before the city is back on line. There are generators chained to every street corner with a traffic light to keep the lights working. The city has a plan to keep the water clean and sewer running. There really isn't an option to move everyone out so we'll have to make do at home.

We had a large brush fire near our home last week. Thankfully it was contained quickly before it caused much damage.
Also, this weekend we were at Hagg Lake and the sheriff had everyone who was on the lake (boats, SUP, kayakers) get off because they had two planes coming in to collect water. They came around probably 10 times within a couple hour span. Apparently they were dumping on another wildfire in our area.
There is also a terrible fire in Southern Oregon called the Bootleg fire. It's already burned over 200,000 acres.

That's crazy about clearing the lake. I never really thought about what would happen if they needed lake water from a public-accessed lake.
We are supposed to visit my inlaws near Burns in a few weeks. They have a very casual attitude towards fire safety and air quality. I'm worried that they are going to be pissed if we cancel, but the idea of having 11 people have to stay inside all day in a small house is stressing me out.

Oh man, good luck. There is no way I would want to stay in a small house with that many people. Nope!
We are supposed to take a short trip to Crater Lake at the end of August. That may not happen depending on where the fires are.
