Our local paper is shit. They ran an article that made it seem like one of newer apartment complexes is closing do to major structural repair. (To the point where there's a thread on the local reddit asking what is happening and people are thinking it's a FL situation.) No, y'all, all they're doing is remodeling, and they're moving the students to a different property. It's easier to just shut down a wing to remodel then trying to work around schedules.
This isn't the first time it's happened where they've insinuated a situation that is completely wrong. It's no wonder people don't trust newspapers anymore.
That seems especially egregious given the condo collapse in Florida.
I get Tom Hiddleston and Tom Holland confused a lot.
That video of Tom Holland lip syncing Umbrella? I somehow thought it was Hiddleston, not Holland. But! To make it even more confused, my brain forgot that there is ALSO Tom Hardy, who I always just refer to as Bane no matter who he’s playing. And so a few months ago I told my husband that the video of Bane dancing to Rhianna was floating around the interwebs again, and I am pretty sure he thought I’d hit my head. And that was how I learned (again) that I am old. And also that the next Tom who comes along in Hollywood is going to need a new initial.
(In my defense, I did not watch the video any of the kajillion times it came across my feed. I just saw the names, filed it away -incorrectly- in my brain, and moved on)
Currently sitting outside arguing with the H about proper procedures when every CO detector in the house is going off. I called 911. H argued that we should just open all the doors and windows.
wawa , 911 answered by asking what I needed “police, fire, EMS, or mental health.”
edit: (wildrice , too. Who else was in that discussion? Just wanted to update to confirm 911 did offer me mental health).
side note, I googled to make sure 911 was the right people to call.
and they left. After confirming the fire department monitors read zero. But the guys said it was definitely in an alarm state. So we are left confused. But not dying. So that’s a good thing.
I asked them to not turn sirens on to not wake the neighborhood. The truck was still loud (we got the huge truck). No one came out of the house to stare. 😂 The other day, a couple neighbors got into it (over leaves 🙄) and everyone was out watching. H and I were watching but hiding behind a truck. In our old neighborhood, an argument that heated would have ended with punches or guns. It’s a different world here.
cville, really? Loki Tom is 40 years old and Spiderman Tom is 25, playing a 17 year old. LOL
I assume she meant that she gets their names mixed up, not that she sees a picture of loki and is like "oh spiderman who can dance"
Correct.
Also, I do not have this problem with Tom Hardy. HOWEVER whenever I think of him I think of Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I hated that book so much in 12th grade and wrote such a scathing book report my teacher was like "if you care this much, you should major in English." Lol.
Well, I have to take back my criticism of the local newspaper. It seems like the apartment management initially lied to my inside source about what was going on. The truth is, the building is close to being condemned because the initial structural engineering firm only spec'd and built the wind sheer of the towers for 70 mph. They need to be 130 (150?) mph rated for here. This was only found out because the firm was bought out by a larger firm who decided to do an audit of projects. What a mess.
we really need to replace the floors in our house, it is so uneven because some of it is hand laid brick YES HAND LAID BRICK and when you walk there is a chance you can stub a toe but I don't want to take that project on because I am lazy and paying someone to do it just sounds like a lot of work so instead i will just grumble about it until I can't take it anymore then get fed up and call someone to do it WHY AM I LIKE THIS?
While I don’t have brick floors, this otherwise describes me entirely.
rubytue, glad everything is ok! And good to know about mental health being included. I love where we live.
I had to call the fire department a few years ago when I lived in an apartment, because the neighbors below us partied too much and put something in the oven and fell asleep, so I woke up to a burning smell and our smoke detectors going off. I investigated before calling (since I was 99% sure that was the problem) and told the person at 911 that nothing was actually on fire, just smoking, so they didn't need to send the whole crew, but they sent (IIRC) 2 fire trucks, a couple of cop cars, and an ambulance. It was like 4am so I was worried they would wake up the whole neighborhood.

My H hates that new job (although we are so grateful it came along to end unemployment!). This company is so badly run. They are so inefficient, too. I have never seen an organizations with more meetings and less productivity. 😐 He loved his last company and job (the one lost to the pandemic).
Anyway, he has interviews lined up this week so 🤞🤞🤞
As I predicted, both of the candidates for our position declined due to salary. They were both asking for 20% over the top end of the posted range. I don't know how either thought there was even the slimmest chance of that happening in our insanely bureaucratic world. Back to the drawing board I guess.
In much happier work news, I had a conversation with my boss today who suggested we start working on revising my title so I can get the highest salary possible. She's also letting MH and I use her condo at the beach this weekend.

you know, I’m glad people are asking more though. I am.

I so want to like Lorde's Solar Power song and keep listening to it in hopes that it sticks, but it's such a dumb song. Maybe because I like the winter.

We're on vacation in the Outer Banks this week. We were at the beach for an hour this morning and I got stung by a jellyfish. It still hurts after following all the advice WebMD had to offer.
Plus, DH had promised me that we would do some stuff besides go to the beach or hang at the pool with his family and now he's being all wishy-washy about it.
My H has been unemployed since January. He has also been talking about how he wants to sell the random shit we have laying around the house since… January. I gave him a few apps to try. He also reactivated his FB account for the marketplace, months ago.
He keeps pleading ignorance and that he needs helps. Lords, how did I end up married to someone who won’t even try to figure out how to use the internet. WTF?! His insistence on selling the stuff was because I hate hate hate dealing with selling stuff. Buy nothing, porch pickup is my way. But no, I am not going to do yet another internet thing for you. You are an adult. Just try it.
Guess who took his phone and clicked through listing a few things on marketplace tonight? I got the boat posted for sale? And made our only FB marketplace sale in the past 6 months? It was not the male in the house.
But… when it comes to prepping for sale, he can do that amazingly. We ended up with 5 offers on our house, after only 6 buyers looked at it. And that was all his cleaning, painting, and repairs. So, he is good for something.
At work, I have a couple of people on my teams that cannot do anything without really explicit instructions and guidance (people with enough expireiance to know better). And I’m sick of doing it at home, too.

StrawberryBlondie, if you have to do PP, make it simple. Don't write down everything you have to say. Just give me an idea of what you are talking about and it's fine.
