rubytue, OMG yes to being married to a spouse who can't internet to sell shit on his own. We are moving and his job is to sell/get rid of the crap we aren't taking. He said early on he'd do it, and I said ok, but hear me now, this will not be my chore. I WILL NOT do it. My idea of getting rid of stuff is to call our local charity who will come pick up everything - couches, dishes, etc.
I leave tomorrow and, shocker, I'm the only one who's sold anything. H is staying behind for the next month to sell stuff, but if I were betting on this, I'd bet all the money on him breaking down in 3 weeks and calling the charity.
To his credit, he spent the last 2 weeks getting our new place ready for me to move into. So my H, too, has some talents, haha. But I have a feeling this selling of stuff is going to take him forever.
we really need to replace the floors in our house, it is so uneven because some of it is hand laid brick YES HAND LAID BRICK and when you walk there is a chance you can stub a toe but I don't want to take that project on because I am lazy and paying someone to do it just sounds like a lot of work so instead i will just grumble about it until I can't take it anymore then get fed up and call someone to do it WHY AM I LIKE THIS?
Could you put down that leveling liquid and then put new flooring over it?

honestly I have never heard of this but I think the base concrete is level it's just the jacked up way the bricks were laid that's uneven if that makes sense basically I think it was a hack job in the way they laid it out.
Yeah, I understand. I was just thinking that it would be way easier to go over the top of it rather than pulling out the brick. But whether you can do that or not would depend on the floor set up and whether there’s room to add additional floor height over the brick.
We're on vacation in the Outer Banks this week. We were at the beach for an hour this morning and I got stung by a jellyfish. It still hurts after following all the advice WebMD had to offer.
Plus, DH had promised me that we would do some stuff besides go to the beach or hang at the pool with his family and now he's being all wishy-washy about it.
Wow, what part of the OBX? I have seen moon jellys, but not anything with tentacles. Now last summer there was sea lice and everyone came out itching, blech.
lilypad1126, wonder of wonders. He’s actually out meeting someone now. For something he listed at $50, that I would have put up for $20 just to be rid of it. Maybe it’ll work like candy and he’ll feel empowered and keep on. Without my help.

they have nettles in the outer banks. They're just starting to show up now in the upper chesapeake bay, so I've been curious if they've been hanging out further south because they're usually thicker up here by now.

We're in Corolla. I know nothing about marine life. If I hadn't googled what jellyfish stings look like, I would have assumed I scratched it on something.

Do you like the brick floors? You could have the high spots ground down.

H just got back from climbing Mt. Baker and had now summitted all 5 of the major volcanoes in Washington! (Rainier, St. Helens, Adams, Baker, Glacier Peak)
They started the summit day last night at midnight so he got home, showered, drank a beer, and is now passed out on the couch.

Just three days ago, I was telling DH that I never want to sell our house (since we are planning renos and whether we stay long or not will impact our decisions). The only exception would be if one of the old houses across the street ever came up for sale. The lots are huge, and while we'd lose some of the features of our "newer" home, we love this block so much. But those old houses have been passed down over the years to family and no one seems old enough that there would be a chance they'd come on the market anytime soon so we figured we wouldn't need to worry.
Welp, last night we saw a FSBO sign in front of the house directly across the street from us. We *just* refinanced. We could easily sell, but there was some work we still wanted to do. I called the neighbor (whom we know well but had no idea she was considering selling) and she didn't tell us the asking price, but said she's looking for a cash deal and said the house would be sold "as is." I've never been inside but I do expect it to need extensive renovations (and she said as much). The added allure is given the lot size, we could add on in the future, which will be helpful if my mom comes to live with us after she retires. DH is home so I may ask him to head over and take a look. It seems like such a pipe dream and I'm not sure how we would swing extensive renovations financially (especially with the supply chain so impacted) so I feel like the responsible thing to do is not buy it, but I'm really attached to this block and buying a bigger house on the block was my compromise to DH (he just wants to sell and go anywhere else in the area, but I don't).
Given the lot size, I'm afraid a developer will swoop in. I told DH to ask his parents to buy it if we can't lol. FIL loves a good house project and they do like our area.
Velar Fricative I am jealous of you and want you to do this! It was my dream to buy and renovate an old home, but where I live those are selling like hot cakes. We got outbid so many times, we just gave up last year and bought a basic 90s colonial. It’s fine, but I miss the character of an older home.
I went down a rabbit hole on Rina Sawayama yesterday and now have her single, XS, playing on infinite loop in my head. It’s really amazing how she manages to combine Britney-like catchiness and vocals with lyrics condemning consumerism and capitalism. She has a lot of other great songs, too, that do not fry my brain so much.

DH is over there now since he's off today. I'm so curious what he says. If he says it would be an absolute money pit and we should stay away, I'd take that seriously since he's the one who's more inclined to move.

So they're asking for less than I expected, but the addition that is already there (it's in the back so I never knew it was there) is illegal, which is why it must be a cash deal. We don't have the cash so it's a non-starter, but DH did say it was pretty gross in there, especially in the basement where the seller's brother spilled oil in there? The hoarded stuff can be removed, but I get nervous about things like smells that will never come out unless you just demo the whole thing.
I figured a developer would snatch it but the seller said the zoning is pretty restrictive for that property so who knows. Meh, it was nice to dream for a bit.
Oh homeownership… we’ve been here a month, and discovered the kitchen sink drain has a leak. A tiny, dry, water mark on the basement ceiling at our home inspection became a huge water stain. And also, we’ve seen water running down the exterior wall. H opened up the basement ceiling and wall, only to discover that he can’t get to it from there. So, I’ve been without a sink or dishwasher all week while he debates the best way to attack it. Options are: A) Through the back of the cabinet, but how to repair the cut out? B) Removing the cabinet, but granite counters make that tricky C) From the exterior wall (removing siding, insulation, etc)
He won’t call a plumber because he knows how to fix it and can do it. Just can’t get there.
On the plus note, he hooked the dishwasher up to a hose so we could run it. Drained it into a bucket that we could dump in the slop sink.

Our kitchen renovation starts in exactly a month. Not changing the layout, but new cabinets, counters, light fixture, sink, faucet, backsplash, built in microwave, and larger cooktop. 🤩
I still need to pick hardware and I don’t want to! I’m tirrrrred of making big decisions.
Velar Fricative, it’s amazing what Kilz can cover up smell-wise. But I’m also someone who loves a good project house, but as the designer/project manager. My H does the work and hates me for it. I promised him we are hiring things out for this house, but need to get our previous house closed first. So, don’t listen to me, I’d be like an HGTV show about it. 😂
I had to ask for a reschedule of the interview because I couldn't do it in person. They moved it next week, but then I got a phone call "can we do it over zoom in 30 min?" Fuck. Me. It's done, and who knows how it went. I'm spent. Today has been a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

My grandma died at 3:25am today. She was 103 so it's not a surprise. I'm sad that I missed so much because I worked all.the.fucking.time for years. I found out because my mom BCC'ed me on an email she sent to an old friend. I don't even know what to say about that fuckery.
