I have such a hard time with trying to figure out what shampoo and conditioner is the right one for me. As well, I absolutely hate buying some expensive brand and it doesn't work. It's just frustrating.
Has anyone used one of those company's that does the "formulated for you"? Like Function of Beauty or Prose? What are your thoughts? Experiences?

I tried Prose and it was the absolute worst garbage I’ve ever used. I can’t even begin to describe how awful it made my hair.
I’ve tried a lot of new hair products over the past year or so, I usually just buy the travel size so I can try it out without too much investment. Ulta has a lot of travel sizes for lots of brands.

I tried two, prose and something else. It didn’t work for me after the first few washes, I thought I liked it but like a lot of hair things with me, my hair rejects it after a little bit.
I ended up getting (GK brand) keratin my salon and using their maintenance shampoo and conditioner and I’m happy with it.

I used Prose, I initially really liked it but it stopped working well after a couple of washes, which I’ve never had happen with a shampoo and conditioner before
I've not tried any of those, but keep in mind that shampoo from a salon or even Ulta can be returned after you use it! I've done that before when I've bought stuff and it didn't work for me. They take it back without question.

This is good to know! I always figured that I was shit out of luck if I didn't like it or it didn't work.
I bought Function of Beauty at Target and I like it. I didn’t buy any of the extra mix ins because I was like what? I don’t know. Now that I know I like the basic set, maybe I’ll try one next time.
I try to be good about products, but some of my favorites are bumble and bumble invisible hairdresser's oil (love the scent and how it works) and the Kerastase line. I wash my hair maybe two times a week, so lines that are on the expensive side will last me months and months.
I haven't tried any of those but I haven't heard good things for the most part.
In addition to being able to return products to Ulta, there are hair product swap groups on Facebook where you can sell partially used hair products to other people who want to try them. Since I started wearing my hair wavy/curly about a year and a half ago, I've tried a bunch of different things. I am a member of one of those groups so that I can get rid of what didn't work for me but it is past the return window.

Not a “formulated for you” brand, but I really love Hair Story. It’s basically a co-wash, but it’s a game changer for curly or wavy hair. You get the good second hair day definition because it doesn’t have detergent. And smells better than vinegar and baking soda diy.

For what it is worth, my stylist is adamant that it is best for your hair to rotate a couple different shampoos/conditioners and don't use the same thing each wash. I have 3 or 4 different in my shower, but I'm also a bit of a product junkie.
