It’s actually pretty fun to watch in person - and so many countries are really into it. It’s like a mix of basketball and soccer. And fast paced!
We were watching at a bar and everyone was cracking up. They score every time they come down the court. They pull the goalie constantly then are surprised when the other team tosses the ball in. I need a rules rundown!
It’s just fast! There is a good amount of scoring. I think the big rule is this one:
If a player holds possession, they can dribble or take three steps for up to three seconds without dribbling.
That makes it more interesting, I think. I may also be brainwashed from my dad making me go to a lot of handball 🤣 normally it is a great break from the heat since it is in an air conditioned arena lol

I think I remember my 90s pen pal in Northern Ireland telling me she played this.
I love the German's uniforms. I see this becoming the norm. Aside from the obvious benefits, it really accents their lines and form. I am not sure how to word that so it doesn't sound creepy. The number of people genuinely pissed off about it really makes me weep for society.
right?! Knowing that volleyball isn’t nearly as popular, I too wonder how they got started.
I only played in middle and high school, but I was always tall and while I already knew I was terrible at basketball, I hated that everyone assumed I was great at basketball so I opted for volleyball almost out of spite lol. I loved volleyball and was a pretty decent player. But maybe this guy was like me and wanted to do something that wasn't what everyone automatically expected. Or maybe only I'm the weirdo to do that.
Also taller and opted for volleyball instead of basketball. But I hate basketball, lol.

My cousin's husband is 6'6" and opted for water polo instead of basketball.
Watched the recap of the women's gymnastics team. Simone was so jacked up with adrenaline, it was insane. But I love her attitude about it with all the facial expressions and humor. She knows she's amazing, she knows she can do it, so she's letting it go. What an inspiration.

Water polo is insane. It looks so fun too but I cannot even fathom the difficulty of that sport.
We had family friends whose two sons who played it in high school and college (one of them tried out for the Olympics). One time we were swimming and they demonstrated for me how you churn your legs like egg beaters really fast to rise up in the water. It took a craaaaaazy amount of leg strength.

I told my husband one time years ago that maybe water polo could be the sport for me because I have terrible swim technique but I can tread water. He just glared at me and then I quickly realized that no, you need to be an excellent swimmer to be a water polo player lol.
Has it been explained how Russia is banned from the Olympics but are competing and winning medals? I am missing something here.
Ohhhhh don’t get me started on this bullshit. “Russia” is banned. The “Russian Olympic Committee” is not. But it’s hardly a punishment. This piece explains it all well.
Women's triathlon was a great finish despite that crap bike course and pouring rain. (I missed the swim...as far as I know nobody parked a boat on the start this time)

I love when countries win their first medals, or first golds like Bermuda just did and the Philippines did earlier today (after a century of trying!). I’m all about Team USA but I love seeing other countries experience joy like this.

I am also surprisingly emotional about Tom Daley and Matty Lee!
@@@ I’m also annoyed a little bit by the “omg! He’s married! He has a CHILD! It made his life worth living!” narrative. I have a hard time imagining this storyline for a straight guy.
I was accidentally up late enough to watch the women’s gymnastics live. The Russian team looked great. I think us will get it together, I hate that all the headlines are “for first time since 2010….2nd place!” Oh noes! I hope it doesn’t get into their heads.
I wish McKayla had gotten the 2nd spot for vault.
I watched it on peacock today, am I wrong or did they not show all US athletes perform on each apparatus? I was getting SO annoyed. Of course they showed Simone and maybe one other, or in some cases 2.
I watched the stream on NBC sports and chose the US tracker, which showed all the us women.
