Got out of the gym to several voicemails from my husband as he drove himself to the hospital after taking a big swig of ethylene glycol. This is why you don't keep a fluid sample in a Gatorade bottle on your desk NEXT TO ANOTHER BOTTLE OF GATORADE OMG WTF.
Apparently poison control told him to take himself to the hospital and they're going to test his blood and then maybe treat him by having him drink ethanol? Sigh.
I thought I was in Covid thread, not the Randoms thread, and was like, Is she married to Don Jr.? (Sorry if that image is 🤢 but I could NOT imagine what this had to do with Covid!)

Hope he’s okay!
Hahah oh man. Thankfully no.
(No update. He's still sitting in the ER and needs to stop consulting Dr. Google.)
I went whitewater rafting this weekend for the first time in years. It was all class 2-3. But the very first hydraulic we played in sucked down my corner of the raft and popped me out, lol. Luckily I came up right next to the raft, kept my paddle, NBD.
I've did some trips in college that were on big class 4/5+ rivers and I never came out of the boat, so this was a new experience. It was a really fun run, though, and made me want to do more.
Always surprised when someone has heard of us (granted, it is more understood now than 20 years ago)
I’m having feeling over the realization I got my masters 20 years ago and have been at my job for 20 years. I am the old timer I remember seeing when I was in my 20s.

litebright I’ve been WW rafting a few times and am always so afraid of popping out! On one trip my friend fell out on the very first rapid and got carried for a little distance, slamming into rocks the whole way. She was ok, but bruised and pretty traumatized!
I started watching The Handmaids Tale last week and realize that I’m way late to this but OMFG. I’m glad I didn’t start watching this prior to 2021.

Yeah. There was this point when I realized the US in the dystopian tv show treated the kids they stole at the border better than the real US was treating the kids it was stealing at the border. Good times.
I do understand why the US is not allowing UK citizens into the country (with some exceptions). I wish they would open up to those of us who are doubly vax'd though. I just found out, yesterday, that my mom may have Parkinson's. Her father had it and she's been showing signs of it, cognitive decline, insomnia, tremours in her hands, etc. I just want to go see her now. I want to give her a hug.
glw , is your DH ok? I have not seen an update so I was getting worried.
Thanks for asking He is okay. They kept him in the ER for about 8 hours and tested his blood twice, but didn't do anything except give him a bunch of fluids then sent him home. Our SIL is an ICU nurse and she was a lot more help with instructions than either the ER or Poison Control! He felt dizzy/shaky/foggy all weekend but was otherwise okay.
RE: WW rafting, I went at New River Gorge NP in WV 11 years ago. I got bounced out of the raft, and sucked under, ending up sandwiched between the raft and a shelf of rock. This dude that was sitting in the back of the raft literally leaned over the side and grabbed me, one-handed, by the back of the life vest and pulled me out. It was the single craziest thing I have ever experienced, and I was super grateful to have The Hulk on my rafting trip.

I was watching some video from the Gauley river afterwards, just for fun. That was one of my college trips and it is scary-big water at times (5+). It's crazy to see how many rafts just dump, if you run certain paths in those rapids, and how little control you have of yourself in those situations once it happens -- the water is tossing you up against rocks, under the raft, etc.
I definitely feel a lot more wary of that possibility now than I did when I was in my 20s!

I had a scary experience white water rafting at New River Gorge. Fell out of the raft right on a class 5 rapid. I couldn’t get to the surface and legit thought I was going to die. Luckily I remembered to ball up and I finally popped up to the surface for a moment before going back down. That experience has vastly intensified my anxiety and fear of dying.
