Aw yay! I swear peer pressure is the way to get things done with toddlers.
I was so close to signing my kid up for swim lessons because she could not connect putting her head under and also moving her body, and then one day at the pool there was another kid around her age swimming and all of a sudden she got it! And now she's a little fish. That my brag. But also peer pressure is the way to go lol.
We bought DS a bike a few months ago. He used the training wheels once to figure out the pedals, but then we took them off. The second time he tried, he was riding his bike perfectly. I couldn’t believe it! He was 3 and could ride a bike 😀. I remember being 5 or 6 and learning to ride a bike and it being a big deal.
DS(5) pet a dog yesterday! It was the 9lb chihuahua therapy dog we've been working with as a part of our exposure therapy and the counselor he's been seeing for his dog fear. I'm so proud of his courage and that he faced his fear!
A passed her 2nd swimming level in 5 months. This was a girl who, 6 months ago, refused to put her face in the water. One day she just did it and has been unstoppable since.

DS(8) has a lot of anxiety around trying anything new he thinks he won't be good at to the point of he starts shaking in fear. We thought karate might be a really good fit. He tried his first class last night. While waiting for it to start he was almost in tears when he saw all the kids, but by the end he loved it and can't wait to go back.

My 9 year old is the only current 9 year old in our LSC (Local Swimming Committee- huge chunk of our state makes up the Local swim committee) who qualified for the highest meet you can really qualify for as a 10u swimmer. It’s the Central Zones meet so we are off to Indiana next weekend for it! She’s been dealing with an insane amount of nerves and anxiety and has really had to push through just to even swim lately. But she loves to swim and we are so proud of her.

I remember all you went through with her last team, I’m so happy to hear she is doing so well now!
What is she swimming at Zones? Our team has a few 10u going to Zones in Elkhart as well. It’s only like an hour from where we live, so very convenient for our team this year, lol!

She qualified in 50 fly and is also swimming 100 fly because we didn’t have any 10u girls who qualified and she’s the 2nd or 3rd fastest in it. Shes also doing both the B relays.
She had a great year on the new team. Some set backs recently with the crazy anxiety leftover from her old team, but her therapist said the setbacks are going to happen so she’s pushing through (it took a lot from her to even get through champs last week because she was so anxious, but she wanted to swim and pushed through).
My last child potty trained. 🙌 My husband went out of town for a week and that's what finally got everything to click. My husband isn't the primary parent so he doesn't always know the kid's input, therefore isn't great at predicting the output. As a result, he was basically just pestering the kid to use the potty and predictably, the kid was NOT having it. With him out of the equation everything was a lot more laid back, and lucky him, he came home to a kid who is potty trained. Wins all around.
Congratulations! This happened in our house too in the last couple weeks. DS2 turned 4 and right before his birthday I decided I was done and we took away the diapers and pull ups all together during the day and although there were a few misses it was largely successful. Then 2 weeks ago we went on a trip and kept him in pull ups the whole time and he did not really use the potty at all. When we returned I assumed we had regressed, but he is using the potty 100% of the time, he even asked to go at the botanical gardens last night.
The only annoyance is that a few years ago, thinking that he’d potty train earlier, I bought a lot of Hanna Andersson training unders and they are clearly too small for him, so I’ve got about 15 pairs of expensive underwear sitting in his drawer that he can’t use.
My almost 5 year old DS sat through an entire Catholic mass yesterday without talking loud, whining/crying, or being weird (we don't do church typically so of course he has no clue how to act) I was anticipating H having to take him outside within minutes and he was so good! It was a “celebration of life” for a very good friends dad who died in the winter. Due to logistics (my parents were also invited and my in laws were out of town) I didn’t have a sitter for him, otherwise I probably would’ve tried to leave him behind, but he did so great. He also was very well behaved at the luncheon after. There is hope for him yet, lol.
My son turns 8 tomorrow. He wanted to have a party so badly because he didn’t get one last year, but we weren’t comfortable because of the increase in Covid cases. We made a plan to go to a water park tomorrow with just our family instead. He was really awesome about it and took it in stride.
Now we’re possible close contacts with a Covid positive family member, so the water park isn’t happening, either. He teared up some, but transitioned pretty quickly to focusing on what we can do.
I’m so proud of his resilience and ability to try and make the best of the situation. (If you’ve got ideas of ways to make it extra special for him, please post it in the “Help!” thread.)
DD (5) learned to tie shoelaces this weekend, and she and I did a swim lesson at the town pool and this week she actually participated. Last week she refused and said she just wanted to go home.
We're having a really rough parenting stretch with her, so small wins need big celebration.
I didn't plan to take on the shoelace thing right now, but I had bought a pair of size 11 Saucony sneaks last Christmas on deep discount "for future wear," that had laces. She had been wearing a beat up pair of 10s, so I measured her feet and ordered her size 10.5 Sauconys with bungee. When they arrived they were too tight so... time to learn to wear the 11s I had stashed away.

That’s amazing!! DS1 is 6.5yo and we are just now working on shoe laces (thanks to OT adding it as a goal…I can do Velcro or slip on forever if it’s up to me)! So far he’s doing well and is close to learning but needs work on the last step.
DS (3.5) got a spot in our district's 3K program! He'll attend 4 mornings a week. The district's evaluation showed he is mostly performing at age level, but qualified for an IEP under the Significant Developmental Delay. He'll get speech therapy and OT there. He'll also get transportation to daycare afterward. This is exactly what we were hoping. He'll get excellent support and we don't have to spend time and money running all over town. It's a really wonderful program with both mainstream and kids with extra needs. We're hopeful and he's really excited for "kindergarten" and picked out a space backpack.
We also had a chance to see the data from his summer speech therapy. He is making progress. We're seeing big progress in his self-help skills at home as well. Whether or not he's ultimately diagnosed with ASD remains to be seen.

DD graduated from speech therapy last month! She came home in Nov 2019 at age 3 and had a language delay on top of having to learn English. Her therapist just an assessment after they'd been working together for a year and E is understanding above age level and speaking right at age level.
Those reluctant swimmers turned little fish are giving me hope!
Mine was completely reluctant and refusing until age 9, when a great swim instructor turned him into a swimmer. It was crazy. I don’t know what she did.
