Hot Carpenter finished the woodwork š and I was walking the dog when he came for the last payment. He was driving his Harley down my street on his way out and swung around to see me and ask if I like the work. He looks even hotter on his Harley. š š¤¤
Is this what my midlife crisis looks like?
He will be back in a few months because we are going to do a coffered ceiling in the dining room.
Also, I got a pedicure and she let me stay in the chair which is a massage chair so I am enjoying that as I type.
My H went through 5 rounds of interviews and did not get this cool job he had applied for (wants to leave current shitty place). Iām so sad for him.
5 rounds of interviews is just fucking rude. Like, I get it's the norm in some industries to have these intensive processes, but fucking no. I'm sorry for your h.

We were really impressed! The samosas were HUGE! I got my H medium vindaloo, and he said it was excellent. Just the right mix of heat and flavor. They also had goat and lamb curries.
I haven't even heard of this place, I'll have to check it out!
We have ordered from this place a couple of times:Ā chutneymd.com/
I thought it was great, but admittedly it's been a while since we lived near good Indian takeout so I don't have a lot to compare it to.Ā
NewOrleans, might hot carpenter have a facebook page for his company so you can recommend his work to others? Or so you can screenshot and share one itty bitty facebook photo for us? Lol.
Well, with all the HoCo people coming out of the woodwork discussing our curry options - who felt the earthquake last night? I slept through it, but saw the reports this morning. I guess my H was still up, because when I grabbed the iPad this morning, it was opened to police scanners. So I guess he did and was trying to figure out what happened. Reddit reports some people, heard a loud boom. Have not talked to H yet to see what he felt/heard.

No because this isnāt his full-time job. Heās a union carpenter downtown and so his side gigs are just word of mouth. Which means I canāt look at him either. š¢

An update to my ongoing hiring saga that I know everyone is fascinated by:
The second person actually didn't turn the job down. She spent 3 weeks trying to decide whether she could take the pay cut to accept it. Her decision rested heavily on whether a specific benefit (worth a crapload of money) would transfer or if she would have to wait 2 years.
After going back and forth with HR a million times they basically said they can't answer until after she resigns her current position and is officially hired by us. Why would anyone take that gamble?! This is a situation that must have come up a hundred times before (someone moving from another local university to ours) so I have no idea why they need to be so cagey.
In the meantime, we have received 0 new applications. I just silently screamed into my hair.

I think I know exactly what benefit that is. My husband has those golden handcuffs and there is no way he could take a new job without understanding how that benefit would transfer!

That makes absolutely no sense. Can you escalate to someone higher up than a recruiter? Surely there is a better answer than that!
wildrice this came from the head of the department that oversees the benefit.
ETA: It sounds like they need dates for the official letter but if they could just say "people making a similar move in the past have been eligible except when XYZ" that would make a huge difference. But nope.
Vespasia well that is stupid. I agree with you that they must have some idea of how this works from past hires. There is no way this is the first time this has come up.

agreed! so...why are you being weird? that's weird. Definitely scream worthy.
Our townhouse closed! Cash is in the bank!!! Whew.
And I knew I was talking about it too soon. We signed yesterday to avoid the awkward signing with the buyer. And apparently two papers were missed. So the owner of the title company drove to our house today to sign the remaining papers. Because I kinda balked at what would have been about 2 hours, mid-day, to drive back to Annapolis to do it. I would have if there was no choice, but when I was hemming they offered to send someone to me. Yes!
The best part is it closed fast enough I never had a two mortgage month!

Gah. The most I've ever done is 3 and that was brutal.
when I was job hunting about two years ago I was interviewed 3 to 5 times at several different companies. One company did a marathon interview with three panel interviews and two one on one interviews all in one afternoon.
Brutal describes it perfectly. And it's so demoralizing to go through all that and not get the job. I was offered my current job after five interviews. I get that they wanted to make sure everyone I'd be working with would have an opportunity to provide input, but jeez.
