Gah. The most I've ever done is 3 and that was brutal.
when I was job hunting about two years ago I was interviewed 3 to 5 times at several different companies. One company did a marathon interview with three panel interviews and two one on one interviews all in one afternoon.
Brutal describes it perfectly. And it's so demoralizing to go through all that and not get the job. I was offered my current job after five interviews. I get that they wanted to make sure everyone I'd be working with would have an opportunity to provide input, but jeez.
this is seriously asinine. So many industries really need to get themselves together. I recently interviewed somebody who was on her 3rd interview - an initial screening call, then an indepth interview with one team, and then that team passed her to me because she was a better fit with my group - but I had an explicit conversation with HR before that interview where I was directed to plan on a quick decision because 3 interviews is a lot and we don't want to leave her on the hook for any longer than absolutely necessary. (and then we gave her an offer. Which she declined. )
Anybody here a hiring manager somewhere that pulls this shit who wants to defend the practice? I'm curious how you justify this in your head, when god knows there are 10003455645 other decisions that affect people's day to day work where they get zero fuckign input, why are interviews the one thing where every tom dick and harry gets input? (I know this seems like just a good faith ask right? )

My backyard neighbors have this big summer pool party every summer and it's super, super annoying. I mean, they're annoying anyway, but this party is especially bad. Like, they start drinking by 10 am and are still going and have progressed to drunken karaoke by 10 pm.
The past 2 years we've been lucky and have been out of town for it but a shade tent just went up on their backyard last night so I think it's this weekend.

I think this means we should check into a hotel.
and this is how you know I have no class, because that sounds fun.
The only regular late night drunken karaoke I do though happens at a house with no near neighbors. Because I might be klassy, but I'm not rude.
So I've been a hiring manager and I think multiple interviews/day long interviews are bullshit. wawa, your last paragraph is spot on. We gave our internal people interview feedback forms to fill out, then we (hiring manager and committee) would make basically whatever decision we wanted anyway.
The goal, from top management's perspective, was to make people feel like they had a choice so that they'd be more likely to buy in to whatever final decision was made. That's not how it worked in practice, but we were stuck with the system. I will say, my industry is pretty small, so from the perspective of me as hiring manager not knowing Jane Doe, but one of my employees knowing her and telling me how unprofessional she was a conference they attended together one, it was maybe helpful. Maybe. But that's still feedback that has to be taken with a grain of salt b/c a lot of time that feedback is coming from a place of insecurity on the part of my employee.
One time I had legitimate concerns about someone who interviewed for a job in a neighboring department because I had worked with that person at a previous job and she was AWFUL. And my boss didn't care AT ALL, hired her anyway, then tried to blame me for not telling him about her. So, clearly the way most companies (that I've worked for anyway) interview is bullshit.

I'm sure it's fun for the people there. I neglected to mention that in addition to the drunkenness, they also BLAST music. It's not fun when it's so loud you can hear it in your house with the windows shut and the AC on and it's all damn day.

I think it sounds utterly obnoxious! But fun for them. If you want to have parties like this, you need a friend in the country with no neighbors. Or you need to be friends with all your neighbors so they're all at the party. otherwise you're just a dick.

I have many issues with these neighbors... most of them can be explained by saying that the guy looks like someone that would unironically call another guy "broseph."
Also, a solid 75% of our neighbors are old. Like original owners of their homes that were built in the 1960s old.
After all the police calls for noise complaints the first year, he decided to put invites on everyone's mailboxes for the second year, apparently thinking that would appease the 80 year olds.

I can't explain a good reason for having 3-5 interviews (there is none in my somewhat expert opinion) but it IS good to have several people involved in hiring from a diversity and equity standpoint, particularly if the people involved have diverse gender/race/ethnicities. Although the hiring manager does usually ultimately make the final decision, having only 1-2 people at all involved in that decision often leads to hiring people who are similar to the decision makers. I think limiting the hiring committee to around 5 people achieves that goal, though. And there is certainly no reason why you have to interview someone for several hours.
My boss told me some of the people on the list to replace him and there are a couple that make me cringe. I hope they don't interview them, but we'll see. I do have an exit strategy or two in my pocket. I 100% do not want his job, but putting faith in a panel of unknowns is hard.
I'm also side eyeing one of the applicants because they used to work here and after they left, a lot of stuff came out. So the rose colored glasses should be gone I hope.
Luvvie Ajayi is doing a thing to promote a new Black owned business each day. She has the broad disclaimer that these are small businesses that will likely be inundated with orders and shipping might take a while.
I ordered some candles late last night. Just got the shipping notification and they're arriving tomorrow. I can't believe it! I hope they actually smell good!

I think I might know her neighbors, and maybe attend that party 😂 (in all seriousness though, I know my friends who do this invite their neighbors and clear it with them first)

I ordered a Dia style box because I hate shopping and I need to start wearing real work clothes twice a week next month. I loved 4 of the five items and I'm keeping the last because it's cheaper to keep it and get a 25% discount for keeping the whole box. It's a black dress that is just sort of meh (DH said it was frumpy), but it's comfortable and will work for work through the fall. I can add some accessories to make it a little more interesting.
I am one of the most crotchety and least chill people I know and even I could get over an annoying party that happens once a year. But it seems like this neighbor is annoying in other ways making this party a bigger deal maybe.
I feel like I'm going to lose the last of my marbles soon.
Same.
Also, I just bought a 1930s/40s General Electric "triple whip" stand mixer at an estate sale. They sold the bowl that went with it so I got it for $10. I need another mixer like I need a hole in the head. But I don't have one of those! I'm now looking for a bowl for it because I'm so curious how the "triple whip" is different.

My old boss did that. He really put people through the wringer. Interviewees had a 30 minute slot with everyone (sometimes in pairs) in the department. Get this, he even did it one year for interns. WTF, who has a 3-4 hour interview for an internship. And none of it mattered anyway, because he only cared about 2 peoples opinions. I felt so sorry for people. The agreement was it was so hard to fire in the government, we had to be 100% sure. And there was no reasoning with the clique that thought it was a perfect system (of which boss was one of).
And I really do think it lead to some bad hires, despite their raving about it. And to this day I am pissed that the year they used it for interns, it was the support for hiring two college-age interns that were from the same high school even. And UMC public school in Bethesda MD. I argued against that so hard, partly on the basis of diversity, and was told that the high school was diverse. So diverse one of the clique members wouldn’t send her kid there 🙄🙄 It didn’t even serve hot lunch - so yeah. 10 years ago and I’m still hot about it. Also, the intern I was against was terrible and got let go from a friggin internship.

Really? It wouldn't annoy you to hear constant loud woos and music inside your house for literally the entire day? When your windows are closed and your AC is on? Cause trust me, it grates after hour 5.

I'm sure it would be annoying, but it's one day a year so I don't think it would be something I'd get super worked up over. But like I said, it sounds like it's more than just this one party influencing your feelings. If they were otherwise super cool neighbors you might not be pissed either.
Do you know what brings me a smidgen of joy? The fact that I can buy bags of just chocolate tootsie pops so I don't have to deal with the other flavors.

I mean, I'm not super worked up about it... I just wish it was next weekend when I'm out of town. Or last weekend or the weekend before when I was at my cabin. 😉
I went to the office to start cleaning it out since I won’t have a cube when we reopen. A) they have not yet brought in extra recycle/destroy bin. So, they were all full and I couldn’t find anywhere to put my stuff. 2) OMFG, you’d think since I just moved I’d know how to pack boxes. But apparently I put too many books in too large of a box and pulled something in my back. I can’t end pick up something off the floor. I just did a hot shower, ibuprofen, and now heat pad on the couch. Ugh.

this makes sense because my current company is actively working to promote diversity and inclusion. At the same time, every person that interviewed me was white. Only one male in the bunch, but all white. So they ended up hiring someone exactly like them 😅
I sent my husband a video clip of an interview and told him it was funny. He then watched it WITH THE SOUND OFF and had the nerve to tell me he didn't get it.
SwimDeep, I am sorry and I empathize. DH would sometimes suggest that our cat did something on purpose or suggest punishing the cat in a way used with kids, not animals (i.e. hours later after en event happened). I would get annoyed and remind him that it is a cat, not a person.
