States are identified as having high, medium, or low vaccination rates, making it pretty obvious that there are other factors at play in case rate statistics.
what was the vax/testing situation there? (obviously still trying to make up my mind too!)
She didn’t mention that. It was in West Palm Beach, so guessing none, bc DeSatan.
That said, she further clarified that she in the only one of her ground (~10) that has tested positive so far, and she suspects she got it on the plane, not the show.
ahhhh! What to do, what to do…
We are going to Zac Brown at MPP next week. Me, DH and @@@@ 13yo are vaxd. @@@@10yo has to get rapid test done. I’m curious what the entry wait lines will be!

This is fascinating, thanks! NY's case number were very much undercounted last spring so that number is not too reliable, but certainly the hospitalization comparison works.
When you look at the very bottom of the list, you see the upper Midwest states that were hit badly last fall/winter despite medium vaccinations, so post-infection immunity probably is having some impact but that could wane in a few months.
I honestly think outdoor concerts are fine, particularly if they are vaccine/negative test mandated. Just, y'know, don't participate in mosh pits.
Lollapalooza was not a super spreader event. Sure, there were cases that were traced there, but the infection rate per amount of people was low. Especially for as tight as they were packed in together.
FWIW, I think I would NOT go to a show in Florida right now, especially if I had to go through airports to get to it.
Maybe I'm just believing what I want to believe, but I think an outdoor concert that requires proof of vax or negative test AND is in an area with a high rate of vaccination is about as safe as you're going to get from a COVID perspective. Especially since you don't have to travel to get to it.
I am seeing Train at MICU in the city next week and I'm curious what the experience will be like.
I really, really want to go see them at Wolf Trap next week. But I'm veering hard between "Outdoors! Vaccinated! It'll be fine!" and "OMG, DeLtA! No crowds!!!"
They are really fun live. I saw them a few years ago so I had to get tickets again! I have mixed feelings about anything these days but ultimately think i am going to keep doing things until I see good data showing I shouldn't. That Lolla information is comforting.

I feel like an outdoor concert in NoVa is relatively safe right now. At least compared to other areas. Wear your mask but it's seems pretty low risk overall if you are outdoors and vaccinated. But maybe I'm biased because I used that reasoning to go a concert Wednesday night this week lol.
Canada has announced that all federal employees and employees of federally regulated businesses must be fully vaccinated by the end of October. Obvious exceptions for medical reasons. I'm interested to see if BC will follow this mandate for provincial employees because that would include public education. Fingers crossed!
My understanding is all they have said is solid organ transplant patients and those with “equivalent level of immunocompromise.” But today’s vaccine advisory meeting is expected to have further details of what that means. [
I REALLY want a booster but I don't know yet if I'll qualify and if I do, I would feel guilty getting it because so many in the world haven't even been able to get a 1st shot let alone a 3rd.
I'm about 8 months out from active treatment for BC so my immune system should be ok now but my WBC count was very low when I got the vax so I don't really know how much immunity I got from it.
Well, results of the meeting are out. And it looks like neither of us qualify. 😞 (me, blood cancer, finished treatment 18 months ago - and I thought blood cancers were considered immunocompromised pretty much forever).
the answers are on a photo of the slide in this tweet. I’ll attach the slide since I can’t c&p the text from it.

I had an annual physical with my PCP today and she told me she 100% recommends masking indoors again, even when vaccinated. She said had it been two months ago she would have told me to relax a little bit, but things have gotten really bad again. I’d already been wearing masks 90% of the time indoors, so it’s not life altering for me.
@ PDQ Side note, my SIL works for the same large health care system as my doctor and is a NP. She just posted “masking children is abuse” on her fb nd I hope she loses her job. People like her should not be in the medical profession.

I thought I'd show you a Youtube video by the team I've been following (and I use the app) around Covid since almost the very beginning of the UK lockdown. The team leader (guy who posts the most) is on holiday so his partner is doing it...but I also think it's a good representation of the info they try to share.
