We noticed that when school lunches last year, when the switch to “free to everyone” happened, they all became vegetarian and were 5 rotating meals of which Ds liked 1. So we ended up bringing home lunch every day. But Ds enjoyed a second breakfast most days.

When do you start? - My kids are year round, they went back on July 8th. They got screwed out of their regular summer break, I was beyond ticked about that.
Public or private? - Public.
In person, hybrid, or e-learning? - In person, I hope it remains that way!!
Masks required or optional? -- Required. Our county has never been optional with masks.
Any other questions that I forgot? - Not that I can think of.
Aftercare? After school clubs? - Not presently. DD is trying out for school volleyball team soon though.
Bussing, walking or car riders? - They both ride the bus.
Hot lunches? - Nah, they pack lunch every day. I think our schools are doing free lunches right now, i wish my kids would just eat lunch at school some days!
I'm trying to ignore all the comments about how people shouldn't have kids if they can't feed them/don't want to pack their lunches. I think this is a great idea for so many reasons.
Our district is doing free breakfasts and lunches for everyone. There is no way to opt out, which seems like it will generate a ton of wasted food. I pulled open the menus for this month and they're not terrible.
Breakfasts.. choice between cereal/graham cracker, and muffins, bagels, breakfast bars, etc. Lunches.. nuggs, mac n cheese, caesar salad (since you know so many TK-5th graders love a good caesar!), pizza, corndogs, hot dogs, burgers, nachos.
DD wants to do breakfasts, because they're all sugary carbs. And they get juice, which we don't serve at home. I'd be totally on board.. if it meant I didn't have to pack lunch. But my kids are awful. IF their site were peanut butter free, I'd force them to do school lunches.

First Day of School went awesome! However, our school has grown dramatically since the local public schools don't have mask mandates and wow. We actually had a car line back up into the street that took a serious amount of time. I mean, that's nothing in normal sized private school and definitely nothing compared to public schools but it's a pretty big deal for our little school.
I wonder if we're going to see a drop after the first semester or if is this is a new thing.
