The lunch bag post made me think about this. We are going on a road trip and could probably stand to upgrade our old cooler. Has anyone tried the Coho Coolers, and what did you think? I see complaints about the zipper being very difficult.
The zipper was SO difficult that when I tried it out in the store, I decided not to buy it. Two thumbs down.
Otherwise it was very well insulated. Reminded me of what the Yeti cooler bags feel like.
I could see myself swearing every time I needed to open it. That's how difficult it was. I did a lot of research and wanted to feel things in-person. Boy did I want to love that cooler bag! We ended up with the smallest hard-sided Yeti, which fits well on the front seat of the car, or on the floor in the back. I think it was $200 and we use it multiple times a week. I've never been a cooler person, but we often take our lunch on the go. Gone are the days of using multiple lunch boxes or having room temp sandwiches.

Will you have access to refrigeration on your road trip overnight or to hotel ice makers? We went on a 5 week road trip this summer, and bought a $20 48 quart regular Coleman cooler at the grocery store (we have a yeti at home, but we flew to our starting point). Honestly, I like the Coleman better, assuming you have daily access to ice and/or refrigeration. It is so much lighter, we could put lots of ice in it, and still have it be lighter than the yeti with more room in the same amount of space. The Yeti was is very useful, when our power goes out, as it does regularly, and when we had the world's worst fridge that would stop cooling randomly, but for travel, unless your in back country for multiple days, I much prefer the lighter Coleman.

It's not fancy but we just did a one-month road trip with our four kids, and we used this cooler, which we've also have used at Disney and on other vacations. It fits a ton, keeps things cold, fit easily in small places, and is inexpensive. We had the 32-can but if we go on a big trip again, I might upgrade to the 48-can.
Thanks! dcrunnergirl52, I just ordered that one! I debated on size but stuck with 32 can as I want to be able to carry it a bit. (ONE MONTH ROAD TRIP! WOW! Where did you go?)

We drove from DC to San Diego, stopping in Memphis, Santa Fe, Grand Canyon, and then we drove up to Las Vegas, Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore/South Dakota, and then home to DC through Missouri, Indy. I have a trip review here:
I have one. There is a tube of grease for the zipper. As soon as it was applied the zipper was easy to use. The cooler works great. I forgot it in my trunk Thursday night with some beers and a gallon ice block. When I found it Saturday afternoon there was still ice and the beers were cold enough to drink. (I am in the PNW where temps have hit 100 plus every day). For the price it’s an amazing cooler.

Yeah, re: the Coho: I was at Costco and checked it out in person. I didn't find the zipper to be a dealbreaker, although it was tough to pull. I would have still gotten it, but I really wanted one that was just a little bit bigger. It seemed just not QUITE big enough. It did look nice, as long as the zipper isn't an issue for you.
Yes, we had a large tote style we loved with a straight zipper. Someone stole it out of DH’s car this summer (totally WTF because it was likely a coworker). He bought a new rectangular cooler and the zipper is really tough. I know the first one came with a little tube of lubricant for the zipper but I don’t know if the new one did and I haven’t tried it. The zipper could be challenging on road trips because I usually reach into the backseat to get to the cooler. It was fine at the beach and park, just had to use two hands to unzip. As far as keeping things cold, it is very comparable to yeti coolers and way cheaper!
