I’ve been thinking about this since the Taliban took over. I’m just so angry at the US for all of the hoops and bureaucracy in regards to the special visas. Why wasn’t an evacuation started last year? Heck even 8 weeks ago? It is all so avoidable.

I wonder if we did start evacuating, they'd just have started attacking then. I mean, were we really supposed to believe the Taliban would hold up their end of the "deal"? Or was yesterday's attack not sanctioned by them? I agree that we could have started getting civillians out before we pulled all of our troops b/c at least there would be a resistance on the ground? I don't know. I'm admittedly very uneducated on all of this.

I admit I know way less about this than I should and it's something that when I try to learn sometimes it makes me more confused, but ISIS and the Taliban hate each other, and I believe the Taliban have condemned the attack. I only learned that they're enemies a few days ago.
I don't necessarily think you're wrong that maybe if we'd started evacuating earlier the attacks would've just started earlier.

Some government official on one of the Sunday morning shows was discussing this. They were asked by the Afghan government not to start early because there were fears it would cause the Taliban to escalate things faster. Whether it was the right decision or not, is clearly up for debate, but I also recognize that we're playing armchair quarterbacks with full hindsight.

Yes, I've also seen this in several news articles: the Afghan government was afraid that starting evacuations earlier would destabilize them. I don't pretend to have the full picture, but at first glance there is logic to Biden agreeing to work with them on that.

Not even. I don't ever assume that the general public knows everything going on behind the scenes of governments.
Woman claims she "saved" the robotics team, those who actually helped get them get out have no idea what she is talking about. Meanwhile the media has been giving her all the accolades. Their lawyer is particularly angry that the continued attention is putting others still in Afghanistan at risk. Woman says she sees no reason to stop being an attention whore (last bit my own contribution).

I feel like this was an interesting post about things that are happening, I feel like it's a reliable source? I hope?

I was just reading this, it's a horrific example of white saviorism.

I was promptly blocked by an acquaintance this morning for sharing this on her meme post of "I know the mean tweets angered many but dead marines anger me!" 100% worth it because she claimed I was insulting her intelligence when she popped back after reading the article, "I don't understand what that opinion piece means?" I popped back asking it'd be easier to understand in meme format.
The f’ing nerve of the Florida governor, who banned a mask mandate, to blame the covid shitshow in his state on Biden.
And Biden should begin every press conference, and every news story article and headline should lead with, “Biden following through on Trumps promise and start of getting troops out of Afghanistan”. No more Blood on his hands than Trump’s.
A GOP lawmaker from OK has been trying to travel to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan in a rogue evacuation mission despite efforts by the Pentagon & State Dept to discourage him. Officials are unsure of his current whereabouts.
