I know it’s not a shock but the fact that it’s the first one ever…damn. Especially after seeing Phoenix rise up to the fifth largest city in the US after the census data was released.
How is Los Angeles going to host the Olympics in 2028 if there isn't enough water for everybody?
A few years ago the SoCal city I worked in put in a desalination plant and pipeline to the ocean. I know other nearby cities are doing the same. That is what the Middle East and Mediterranean does. It’s expensive so most places won’t do it until they have to or it makes financial sense.

We're seeing similar things here in Europe. The heat is well above averages in southern and central Europe. The UK, we're seeing colder and wetter than average. I think it's going to be happening all over the world.

Historically, Los Angeles gets water priority. Something something William Mulholland, Chinatown, the reason almost the entire San Fernando Valley decided to incorporate within the city limits, etc.
When I went to Death Valley we stopped at a small park in a town in Inyo County to eat our lunch. The park had a small creek. There was a sign that said that the water in the park was owned by the County of Inyo and City of Los Angeles. We also passed by Owens Lake and stopped at Manzanar on the way, famously dry and dusty places, due to be drained of water so Los Angeles could have it.
