FWIW, having dealt with contractors, they are out and about all day and don't have time to answer emails. Office staff for contractors is in short supply and often done by family members. So if you want something done you have to call the contractor, and then get an estimate/contract to have it done. Sometimes you just have to meet the people where they are to get things done.
Logically, I realize this. I just need to work up to it. 😂 And I wish we weren’t in home repair bonanza time when it was a bit more of them wanting our business vs today’s crazy times.
Yeah, they really have no motivation right now to respond to people if they don't want to.
Also, my husband IS IN THE TRADES (electrician). I strongly feel this should be a he job. But, years of experience tells me it’s not. He thinks he can do everything himself instead.
Tropical Storm Grace is hitting us worse than we expected. Decent wind. Lots of rain. Some powerlines and trees are down, also flooding in lots of areas.
It was heading more toward Haiti and then didn't turn north as expected so got us instead.
And now I have a leak in my bathroom roof. So add me to the list of people who need to call a workman.
I just watched the latest Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock, her first with a live audience. I’m glad she got a good response and she seemed to be having fun.

Hope you and yours can stay safe and that the leak isn't too bad!

My cricket team just made it into county playoffs. I play for the 2nd team, which is made up of newer and younger players as well as a few of us oldies. I'm quite pleased we got first place in our league and that I was able to be captain for one game that we won. (we have different captains regularly).

My dad starts his cancer treatments today and I'm having trouble concentrating at work. He's scared and I've never seen that before. He didn't want anyone to go with him, so my mom dropped him off and will pick him up after. Luckily the office is only 10 minutes from their house. It's immunotherapy as opposed to chemo, so the side effects are supposed to be less. And it has a pretty decent success rate for his type of cancer (60%). But I'm just having a day and needed to get it out.
Earlier this summer, I trapped 6 *very* feral kittens. The shelters have been completely overwhelmed because of lack of s/n surgeries last year. It's taken me so long to find a rescue willing to take them. I finally did and 3 of them are getting neutered today and the other 3 are with other fosters so they can get more 1 on 1 attention. I'm so fucking relieved.
Foster mom passed all of our info on to the rescue so we are just waiting on our contract now. I keep checking my email. We really want to go get her this weekend. 6 hrs round trip. I am going to pick up a puppy pen and a baby gate today. Need to get a crate still.
8 weeks ago I started swim lessons. Today was my last class.
When I started I couldn't do anything but float on my back. I can now swim freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly, and side stoke. It may not be pretty and I need to keep practicing, but I MOTHERFORKING LEARNED HOW TO SWIM.

Thanks everyone. He tolerated the infusion meds well. No side effects thus far (and some possible side effects would be evident immediately). I brought him his favorite lunch and he’s looking good and was video chatting with his friend when I was leaving. Here’s hoping!

My husband has accused me of workaholic tendencies for years. Especially the days that I go into the office. I get in a groove and want to check things off my list and boom I'm leaving late. Lately, he's noticed that I'm better at being home at a regular, reasonable time and commented with approval.
It's because the new cleaning lady for my floor, who is super nice, is waaaay too chatty so I make sure to leave before she gets to my office so I can just wave as I pass her and say hey quickly.

My sister has decided to create a portable flower wall to use as a photo backdrop for her bridal shower and wedding. I don't know if she's done the math on how many artificial flowers she'll need, but she seems to have a plan in place.

This is something I would think was a good idea and seems easy enough and I'd get two rows of flowers done and say fuck it lol

And a dedicated van to transport the thing with an emergency glue gun and an extension cord? And a really big tip for the catering staff that's going to have to move it, fix it, etc.? lol

This sounds like it will be part of my MOH duties. Fuck. LOL

Sometimes I think I'm going to make a wreath packed densely with flowers, and then I start pricing the flowers (even from wholesale sites), and realize it's going to be $$$. I can't imagine trying for a whole wall.

-ish. Things like this are way too much for one person to be able to do, especially in a MOH dress, so that's why the catering staff usually gets suckered in to helping which can throw off the timing for the rest of their setup. The other scenario is "setting it up early, before hair and makeup." There's a good chance that where she wants it to go has another use for part of the event so it can't get set up early but that info isn't usually found out ahead of time because the venue sales manager will say "no problem!" because they're not going to be there. Maybe she's got all that figured out but in my experience, I've seen that happen once.

I went to a wedding (as a guest) once where the flowers were to be transported from the venue to the reception (same location, but different buildings). I was there early since DH was part of the wedding party, and happened to talk to the florists as they were setting up. No one had thought about WHO was moving the flowers. I ended up doing it while the wedding party was taking pictures.

This is exactly why I only had 1 wedding (despite 2 marriages). There are soooo many details and things to think through for a wedding. Just reading these couple of things made my stress level rise lol.

The bride of this particular wedding is planning to elope for her second marriage.
