"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
That's very cool! Fun fact about Salem: there were about 500-600 people living in Salem Village in 1692/93. And 200 people were accused of being witches. Around 50 confessed! None of them were convicted or executed. The 19 people hanged as witches all refused to confess and were convicted. Over 100 people were imprisoned – in a town of ~500 people! The level of hysteria must have been insane.

I'm just excited for chances to pull out my random witch history knowledge, since we're coming up on six years since I last taught my Witch Trials course.
Speaking of which, when I submitted the course to my college they put a typo in the title. For a while, it was officially called Witch Trails. I should have given lectures on a hike. 😆

smock, I did a report on the witch trials in 8th grade. Am I remembering correctly a gentleman named John Danvers that was crushed by stones instead of burned? I would consult my 8th grade paper but my parents may have thrown it out.

Yep, it was Giles Corey! His wife Martha was also an accused witch. Giles refused to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, so they pressed him to death with stones. Then they hanged Martha.
