I can’t read the names, but I don’t see the issue?
@@@@ We have these and my kids use them, but I may be missing something. I think we have the 16 count one and it has fewer lighter tones— I can see how it might seem off that half of the tones are so light.
The fact that these crayons even exist is great. I think they are arranged that way for a visual look. I don’t find it offensive and my skin tone falls somewhere on the right.

I completely agree it's great to have the set, and overthinking is my apparently my favorite past time.

I remember the first time I saw these in the store and I was like “finally!” I’m actually not sure if we own these, I need to pick up a box next time I’m out shopping for school supplies.
Lots of things are arranged in a gradient. I don’t see any reason to hate on crayola for this. I just bought a pack each of crayons, coloured pencils, and markers and am so excited to give them to my students this year.

I just would have separated it by if it's more of a red or yellow undertone, and then done a gradient.

I literally cried when I saw these for the first time. White people have no idea how important and meaningful this is to POC.
I think you're reading too much into this. Take a step back. They're organized in a gradient. That doesn't mean they're set up that way in the box (just like regular Crayola are not in rainbow order in the box.)

@@@@ We bought a set for each of our teachers this year. I was so happy when the 2nd grade teacher said she already had a set and was super excited to have more to go around.

I completely own, that i was overthinking, and maybe (probably) even projecting on this.

Please understand that i am not questioning the value or importance of the variety of skin colors. I was concerned that it was at best slightly ironic and at worst problematic that they had them displayed that way on the box.

what? no. who is supposed to decide this??
you are reading waaaay too much into the intent from crayola. let us* have our crayons without it being a thing.
*and by us, I mean, let my students who are not peach and not dark brown have a colour that represents their skin tone. buy some and donate them to your local school.
I always buy these (they've had them for years and years, FWIW) when I volunteer in our preschools. The kids absolutely adore them, and once they figure out what the labels mean (I dump all my crayons into bins for clean-up ease), they take them all out, line them all up, and pick the ones that "match" them/their family/me/sometimes even their pets (LOL). This is what kids do- I'd say Crayola nailed this packaging, and if they still have these boxes when I buy them again, I will definitely!!! try to keep them in it (at least at first)!

I will be doing this. I just didn't want to do this if it was as problematic as I was concerned it might be.
I grew up in a very racially divided town. Even though it wasn't "officially a thing," there was literally a white side of town and a black side of town. They didn't enforce it but they still had the signs above the bathrooms in the hardware store that directed people into which bathroom they were allowed to use.
There were other things that i found out later, what the real implications were. Like the balcony in the movie theatre and the window that opened to the porch on the only restaurant in town. So I just wanted to make sure i wasn't ignoring something that needed to be addressed.

Yeah I definitely think you are reading too much into this. They are all in the same box and much needed for children.
I like donating to Donors Choose (even though I have mixed feelings about teachers needing to crowdfund supplies) and I just searched for projects that wanted this line of Crayola. If anyone wants to easily donate these to schools, this is an easy way vs. purchasing and delivering yourself. Here is one of the projects:

This strikes me as actually offensive given the way different skin tones have been categorized throughout history. I think it’s probably for the better that you weren’t put in charge of this particular box layout. The current layout seems fine to me.

The internet tells me this particular line is from 2020. Were they called something else before? Personally I can’t recall when I spotted them but I also didn’t pay much attention to crayons until a few years ago.

Yes, this is definitely their most diverse offering, though. The older packs were much smaller, and under a different name/s.

Ok. I honestly didn't know that. I knew of the historical perception of lighter as better, but not about certain tones being better. I apologize for being both ignorant and offensive.
I was wrong, and i let my ego get the better of me.
