al dente do you mind saying where you are roughly? Just curious. Our health Dept just gave a school mask mandate. I’m thrilled
I'm in Hawaii. We never dropped indoor mask mandates so I don't think there was really any fight about schools having a mandate. School started beginning of August and I think it's going ok? My kid is only in preschool so I don't know a ton about regular school cases.
Changing clothes. They don’t want the kids doing normal gym in street clothes. Due to construction delays during renovation, when the 2019-2020 school year started, they had to bus the kids to other schools in the district. Kids did not have access to locker rooms. They just returned to the building in Jan 2020 but the locker rooms weren’t ready yet. Then they obviously shut down in March 2020. Last school year there were no locker rooms again due to covid. Same this year. This class of 8th graders have had a crazy middle school experience from day 1.
Interesting. I was surprised they do not change clothes for gym at my kids school but they don’t. They just have to wear sneakers.
I can only imagine they are gross and smelly afterwards.
Same here. They can change but most don’t - they just wear their gym clothes to school and they do the normal stuff. I remind them to wear deodorant and reapply after gym for my own health
We also intentionally put gym for 7th and 8th grades at the end of the day when possible.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I teach in a zip code that is over 85% vaccinated. Our kids come back to school Monday and masks are required at all times indoors. I’m a little nervous but not freaking out yet…we’ll see how it all goes.
Same boat, plus 100% of staff and faculty and 95% of eligible kids are vaccinated. I am hoping that’s enough to stave off transmission for the younger kids in school.

My preschooler’s class had an exposure. She is masked but no idea if the one that exposed the class was…plus they eat lunch unmasked. Health dept just wants the class to mask up this week, I assume to prevent further spread? It doesn’t make much sense. Teachers are vaxxed and the classes are tightly cohorted.
She won’t understand so I guess I will just tell her there is no gymnastics class this week.
