It was biopsied in July and dx as moderately atypical. I’m just nervous they will discover they are wrong and it’s cancer after all. And also that they will say they didn’t get it all so I have to come back.
How are you feeling physically this morning? (I’m guessing your mental/emotional state is the same since you’re still waiting.).
A little sore. Just trying not to worry. Thanks for checking. 🥰
I have to get a mammogram soon. Any advice? I've heard it's not terrible but I've also heard it's worse than childbirth.
I wouldn’t even call it painful. Uncomfortable, yes, but no pain. I have a family history and started early, so I’ve had plenty. I far prefer getting my mammogram to having a dental cleaning.

I think I'd agree, honestly. They are no big deal at all in my experience. I'd say they are similar to having a pelvic exam - it is awkward because someone is all up in your business, and I'd rather be doing something else, but it's not horrible and it's over quickly.
With a family history, I actually love getting them - they can confirm I'm healthy! And I'm grateful that if that ever changes, I have a good way of detecting that sooner rather than later.

Are you busty? I am, and I don’t find mammograms terribly uncomfortable. And I have to have them a LOT.
I’ve heard that they are more painful the smaller you are. I have no comparison (DD here), but I barely find them uncomfortable. Mostly holding your arm a certain way and rounded corner of the plate poking at a weird angle. But the smooshing? Non-event.

This is what I’ve heard too. Less breast tissue, more painful to get a good pic.

This is really helpful. I HATE the dentist.
I just had my first one this week. It wasn’t painful. A little uncomfortable, but quick. They did two on each side. I was back in my car in under 20 min. I wouldn’t stress, it wasn’t bad at all! I’m small chested and still didn’t find it bad.

I had my first mammogram last year. The first set of pics wasn’t bad at all. I was surprised since a lot of people told me they are painful. However, I was called back for more pictures. The second set hurt! They needed pics closer to my rib cage, so they smushed a LOT more than the first time. Still not awful though since it’s so fast. The nurses were amazing and very sweet. They are pros.
One thing to be aware of is that when you get your first mammogram, they are taking the “baseline” images and they are very thorough. These are the images they will compare future mammograms with to look for changes. It is super common for them to call you back for more pictures. I just want to warn you so you don’t freak out if it happens to you. My sister had the same experience, she warned me which helped so I wasn’t surprised. I guess we have dense breast tissue which makes it more common.
They actually called me back for a second mammogram and an ultrasound as well. Based on that, they had me come back at 6 months for another ultrasound, and in another 6 months I’ll repeat the mammograms and ultrasound again. I guess I have some cysts or something that they want to keep an eye on, but assuming they aren’t changing, after that I’ll just have yearly imaging. I guess I’m happy that they are so careful!

I’m actually heading in for my second annual one in the morning. The first one was kind of like smooshing myself against two windows? It wasn’t super comfortable, but I wouldn’t say it hurt. My boobs aren’t very big, though.
So, after calling out on our attendance line (unattended) for exactly one week, my company decided maybe they should talk to me. My supervisor quite recently and I do not have any other numbers for people. To be honest, they still have not even bothered telling me she quit, but we asked her instead. Shows exactly how much they "value" their employees.

I am relatively small busted (like a small B) and I didn’t find it hurt. There was a lot of pressure, and it wasn’t comfortable, but not pain. A pelvic exam with a pap is more painful — for me at least.
Whee, being a woman!
seeyalater52, happy birthday!! Fingers crossed for your job applications. I’m sorry work is so hard for you right now. :-( I don’t imagine you are up for moving? I have seen a couple of job listings lately along the lines of what you mentioned above, but they are down here in DC.

Thank you, friend. Doing what I do remotely and/or from not-DC is definitely a bit of a needle in a haystack but we are firmly rooted for the moment (in RI.) Probably for the better because the DC culture of this work is also really exhausting and I’m feeling really over it this week, even from far away.
Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. My wife unexpectedly had to work late but they brought me home cake and we have a dinner date planned for tomorrow. It’s officially my weekend and while I still have a pile of work to do on my day off I’ve officially survived another week somewhat in tact. ❤️
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Does anyone go backpacking or camping often where you bring along a compact blanket? My boss is talking about in-person conferences in 2022 and I’m daydreaming ahead to how much I dislike hotel blankets, but I also love to turn down the AC in my hotel room. So I’m looking for a large-sized blanket (aka, not a lap blanket) that I can pack in my luggage. Plus my birthday is in October and MH might ask for ideas.
A friend is upset nobody is talking about women’s equality day. I had no idea this was a thing. Did others know? Am I under a rock?
Its been a thing since the 19th amendment was ratified on 8/26/1920.
My fb memories include a memory from 6 years ago complaining that there were way more posts about international dog day than women’s equality day.
This year I’m apparently apathetic.
Eta: it should also be noted that it’s only women’s equality day for white women. Many Black, Asian immigrants and even Native American women weren’t able to vote yet.

my "sleeping bag" for backpacking is actually a blanket kind of thing with the ability to make a little toe box and then strap around my sleeping pad. They're usually listed as just "quilts" on camping gear websites. and I ADORE mine. It's the comfiest warmest fluffiest lightest thing in the world and it packs down itsy bitsy. But it was also $$$ (I think this is the one I have? I'd have to go downstairs and look, but the price has likely gone up since I bought mine several years ago. enlightenedequipment.com/revelation-stock/ ) I think that's probably wildly overkill for what you are looking for, but it might be worth searching around in that category to see if anything would suit.

There's an absolute scheduling disaster going on at work. I'm trying to get it resolved today but that's unlikely to happen.
I'm out all next week and my boss has made it very clear that if it needs to be dealt with next week, she will handle it. She doesn't want me working on vacation. As frustrating as my institution is, this is the type of thing that keeps me around.
Now whether I can actually stay off of my email is another question but at least that's about pressure I put on myself, not from higher ups.
I can’t really complain, but I am. My H decided that after 4 days working outside in the heat, he is having an inside day. So he is cleaning and organizing. Which is good! Yay!!
But it also involves lots of “is this a kitchen thing?” “Where does this go?” And so on. And I keep feeling obligated to jump up and consult. I gave him a stack of light fixtures to change out (he is an electrician - low hanging fruit). But noooooo… now he has pulled out the huge dyson to vacuum our hardwood floors. I have a small stick vacuum for hard surfaces, but yet I keep hearing the dyson and the beater spinning thing going. Relax Ruby! You don’t need to interfere.
This is the most ridiculous complaint ever. I realize it. But it’s so distracting to know that shit is getting organized without me knowing where.
mbcdefg I second the Rumpl blanket. DH has a Kelty one and it is nice, but the Rumpl is fluffier and warmer. Now DH wants a Rumpl one like mine. I have the original puffy.
We had to put my dog to sleep yesterday. He was a 16 year old retriever mutt and was a very good boy- loving and playful and silly until his dying day.
Does anyone have any specific pet memorial items they would recommend? I’m thinking a drawing or garden stone from Etsy, but I’m having a hard time wading through the many options while I’m feeling such heavy sadness.
