For me cleaning the kitchen is one task - so all flat surfaces, appliance fronts, sink, and window. Same with the bathrooms - flat surfaces, sinks, mirrors, toilet, tub/shower. Neither of these task include the floors or dusting up high (like to remove cobwebs, but I will dust off the edges of the towel racks).
Dusting is a separate task that encompasses the whole house and may include things like the blinds and cobwebs.
Vacuuming is a separate task that encompasses the whole house.
Mopping is a separate task that only includes the kitchen, bathrooms, landing, and one hallway.
It's easier for me to take my cleaning supply bucket and go room by room to do the "wet" cleaning first, and then come back through to do dusting and floors.
This is how I did it. I have a housekeeper now, so I don’t do the deep cleaning anymore, but I def have to do a lot of upkeep with the animals.
I miss having a cleaning service.
Back then cleaning was just wiping down the counters after dinner (which I already do daily) and picking up the cat toys and putting away clutter before they came. We really should have vacuumed in-between cleanings, but we both worked FT when we had cleaners, and it just wasn't a priority.
Lol usually I start cleaning the kitchen counter, then go throw the rag in the laundry room, then realize I need to do laundry, then fold in my bedroom and realize I need to carry something to the kids room, then realize I need to take the blankets off their bed and back to living room, then realize I need to straighten the couch and vacuum the floor, then realize I never finished in the kitchen what I started in the first place 🤣
Years ago I heard someone describe as “if you give a mouse a cookie” cleaning and I’ve been calling it that ever since! 😂 🤦♀️

I try to off load most of the cleaning tasks to my H. But if I’m doing it, it’s definitely randomly as I go along. I start in the living room, but then have to put something away in the bedroom closet, so then I do some cleaning there until I have to flip the laundry, then I clean the area near the laundry room, and on and on and on. My H cleans this way too, so we are either perfectly matched or the worst match, depending on your perspective 😂
In a frantic hurry because it is just too messy There is no plan lol..
In better more calm mental times I would focus on one room in 15 minute intervals. I got the idea from Flylady but I will no longer give her clicks after a hardcore conservative post she made about 2 years ago.
We have a cleaning person so I don’t do deep clean stuff very often. I do a lot of daily tasks - whole house (every day I make the beds, vacuum the whole house - I have a cordless and it’s quick, and i pick up/tidy all rooms before bed. I haaate waking up to an untidy house) I clean the kitchen after each meal (super quick except for dinner). I do a load of laundry every day. I occasionally clean the bathrooms on an as needed basis. That’s it. It sounds like a lot but doing it every day actually makes it super fast.
Not being able to have a cleaners anymore is the thing I resent my dogs the most for. I mean, I COULD, but I’d have to take them to two different daycares for the day each time lol.

I’m sure you’ve thought of this, but can you kennel them at home? I always did that when my dog was younger.
By task? I think? I do the floors all at once because we have a small one level house, so if one room isnt done it just spreads to the house anyways so might as well do it all.
Idk I've also finally come around to doing some stuff everyday vs one big clean a week. So at night I pick up, wipe down, and do one or two specific tasks depending on what's bothering me most. I feel like this keeps my house decently clean without spending hours on a specific task and then looking around and stuff is still a mess. But again we have a very small house lol.

I keep a very tidy house which helps. The kitchen is cleaned up every night and I wipe down the counters as needed. Sometimes twice in a day, sometimes once in a few days.
I’ll go through and dust once a week - or let DD do it as a chore. I run the roomba every other day - usually picking a different room. I have the kids clean their own bathroom - it’s meant to be once a week, but it’s been less than that. I do ours and the downstairs bath as needed. It never builds up because I would rather spend 2 minutes cleaning up something than 30 minutes after it’s all got gross and I have to do it all. So I clean often, but usually for less than 5 minutes at a time.
We have a cleaner who comes once a month to do a deeper clean, but I can keep it fine in between with 5 minute stints.

This is enough to convince me to never have dogs again. I will never give up my cleaning service if I can help it.
I don't clean anymore. DS2 vacuums under the kitchen table (because my children were apparently raised in a barn) and they take turns wiping down the kitchen table nightly. I wipe down kitchen counters regularly. Other than that, I'm not sure I've done anything besides occasionally vacuum in my house in years.
Vacuuming and floors I do as needed and I’ll spray and wipe countertops, but I hardly ever legitimately dust other surfaces. I try to have things semi picked up each night before bed.
I am now about two months in to a cleaning service for the first time in my adult life, and I love it. I feel like half of what I’m paying for is forcing myself/us to tidy ahead of their visit, but less clutter lowers my feelings of stress, so it’s worth it.
My favorite thing right now is the tiny triangles they vacuum on the vertical part of our carpeted steps. I never even thought on my own to clean there with any regularity.

Mine, in particular, are just assholes who would have to be confined to a room or crate and would then still create a ridiculous, embarrassing ruckus.

We only have one crate, but the one that would go in there would lose his mind the entire time and it would be so embarrassing, not to mention disruptive to us working from home lol. But mostly embarrassing.

I totally understand. We had 1 dog that hated the crate, but we got a big one and crated them together, and he calmed down. I just love a housekeeper so wanted to help you find a solution!

I do appreciate that! I certainly miss ours. The cleaning I do doesn't take too long and isn't horrible, but it's for sure not as thorough as they were lol. I may try to find someone to just do quarterly deep cleans and take them to the daycares on those 4 days a year (They can't go together because Donny tries to guard Stella and fight with other dogs, but if she's not there he's fine :::eyeroll:.
