We stayed. I'm about 35 miles north of NOLA on the other side of Lake Pontchartrain. Right now we have light rain and wind. Should get bad for us around 4pm. NOLA is starting to feel tropical storm force winds now. My two BFFs that stayed in the city still have power as of now. They're reporting now that a handful of pump substations in/near NOLA don't have power but they are working to repair it now. The pumps can handle about 2" of rain per hour.

Ugh!!
Keeps us updated if you can.
I'll definitely keep checking in as long as we have power and wifi. I'm about to start stress cleaning and tearing into my stash of Doritos lol.
turkletsmom, thinking of you and hoping for the best. Desperately hoping that all of the measures taken after Katrina are effective.
I live in a Houston suburb and the people of Louisiana who jumped in their trucks and came here were the only lifeline so many of my friends and neighbors had following Harvey. They were the only help that many could access to escape their flooded homes when 911 was down and our own infrastructure was overwhelmed. We are ready to pitch in and help; I've seen many with ties to LA already organizing collections of actually useful stuff (generators, gas cans, fans, solar lights, etc) to bring as soon as the storm passes and they can get there. As one of my favorite weatherman said, today we pray, tomorrow we help.

The coastal areas are going to need so much help. They're saying gusts up to 185mph for those areas which nothing can withstand. They keep saying on the news that a handful of residents down there stayed to protect their property but I don't even understand how that's possible.

So a breaker tripped and malfunctioned at the sewerage & water board pump station in NOLA. They're saying for city residents to not use water if they can help it. The newscaster just said "umm y'all remember when we were little and they said- if it's yellow, let it mellow?..." LOL you could see in her eyes that she could not believe she was saying this on live tv. I need a drink.

turkletsmom, my best friend lives in Mandeville (just north of Lake Pontchartrain) but they evacuated to her ILs in Houston. Sounds like you are nearby - I hope it doesn't get too bad for you guys at all.

Yep- I'm one town over. The wind and rain are really starting to pick up. We still have power though!
Thanks TR and all:) we’re safe in Jackson. Today was a shit show. Our hotel sucked so bad, we found a Hilton in downtown Jackson, it’s in an old big brick building so I feel much safer and it’s much nicer.
The skies opened up when we were unloading our car and our friends. She has 3 kids and we have 3 animals. We were soaked lol.

The sewage and water board is an embarrassment! I read that it’s possible for sewage to back up into homes in Nola proper.
I agree. It's pitiful. And this was before there were any bad winds/rain and power was still on.
Y’all it’s catastrophic:( the low lying parishes 😞. My mom has water pouring into her bathroom from the vent on the roof and water blowing THROUGH her back door. Huge trees down everywhere.
Oh God. My stomach dropped just reading this. Please let us know how we can help your mom.

Omg mofongo. I would murder my Mom too. I truly hope that your family is safe and my heart breaks for the people in the region.
I just had a visceral reaction from your description of the water coming around the door. Something similar happened at my cottage when a tornado came through and I remember the water coming around the window frames just before my Grandma got us into an inside room.

Thanks for checking in, Louisiana posters. I’ve been thinking of all of you, checking for updates. I hope you and your loved ones stay safe, with minimal property damage.

Checking in-- we lost power at 7:45pm Sunday night and are under a boil water advisory until further notice. We were able to drive today to H's work in Mississippi to refill our propane for our generator, gas and get ice and a few groceries (he is a Fed at a federal/military base). No damage to our house. Our yard was wrecked but no big deal compared to the damage other's have. The wind was so scary. I've never experienced anything like it and I've lived in the NOLA area my entire life.
TheSeaward, Mandeville had a lot of trees fall. No big flooding that I've heard of except for the lakefront (which is built for it- all of those houses and businesses are raised and it sounds like it receded normally). The rivers didn't crest as high as they thought so we are good there.
mofongo, OMG I'll be thinking of your family. What a total nightmare.
