My utility company sent out a memo today letting us know that we're sending a bunch of crews on a two week deployment to NOLA. I'm sure others are doing the same, so hopefully electricity is restored for most soon.
Two of my Mom’s cousins and a good friend of the family who all retired recently as linesman all drove down last Friday. From Canada. They’ve been working since Sunday morning. One of my cousins who is a linesman usually goes to do storm damage work but his wife had a baby last week. He feels bad that he’s not there.
I used to work ag our local electrical utility and I can’t imagine how they are coordinating all of this or getting the needed equipment and supplies. Seeing the pictures of the damage is wild. I really really hope that the waters recede and power comes back up quickly to help everyone in the area I’m so sorry for those of you who live in the region.
Thinking of all of our Louisiana posters. My office has a lot of ties to the gulf coast, especially a lot of the small shipyards in Houma, and we're just now starting to hear from people down there
DH's office is mobilizing pumps, berthing vans, generators, just about every piece of equipment they've got that might be helpful. They've done this before for Katrina, a few years ago for Puerto Rico, etc. so they've (unfortunately) got a lot of experience getting stuff moving quickly.
I’m home and just exhausted. We were very lucky. My grandpa has 2 ft of water and a ton of property damage, they can’t even get into his subdivision yet bc of the water. My generator is great. I have 5G and I feel like I shouldn’t complain. My mom has decent damage but is habitable. Katrina destroyed the east side of Nola and Ida the west. Nola proper faired ok. The river parishes and low lying parishes are destroyed:( schools closed indefinitely everywhere. Power out indefinitely, no gas which is creating panic.
Apparently, some places in MD got hit pretty bad. H is in roofing sales and talked to one family whose house is 20 feet off its foundation. They were in the basement for a tornado warning and just watched the house move above them.
The tri state area here got slammed, things are nuts.
Have you seen the videos of the subway? What a mess. I was at a rest area on 684 in Brewster with my dad for 4 hours yesterday waiting on a tow truck. I’m so thankful we were not on the side of the road during the rain.

Yes! I can’t believe the entire system shut down. That’s unbelievable.
I was supposed to go to our second in service day, but obviously it was canceled. I’m hoping they cancel the first day with students tomorrow.

Everything is open here. Some roads are shut from the Wallkill flooding though. It got super windy on our way home last night. Lots of leaves and branches down. Glad the tree in front of the house is gone .
My ILs are in NYC and their house flooded but they didn’t lose power.
My dad here in MD lost power but didn’t flood and he lives on a river! Luckily it’s back up now because he has a septic system and a well and when the power goes out he really has nothing. They used to have a wired landline which was great in an emergency (he is also the first house on a long, narrow rural street surrounded by fields and woods that gets blocked by trees fairly regularly in storms) but Verizon forced everyone to switch to digital so now he doesn’t have phone service when the power goes out either. It stresses me out! He has a cell phone he rarely uses except in situations like this but still, you’d think it would be nice to have a way to call for help in a rural area. Cell reception isn’t great. Lots of trees are down in his area, wind damage and some flooding.
It was such a powerful storm! It’s amazing so many states so far away felt the after effects. What a mess.
Philly burbs here. We’re pretty much fucked. My family is fine but tornado touched down miles from our house and there is crazy crazy flooding and damage, tons of water rescue, etc.
Ida's path of destruction is insane But hey, climate change and infrastructure aren't a big deal.
DH is heading out on Saturday to coordinate pumping operations somewhere? No idea where he's going as his office works with FEMA to figure out if they're needed in LA or the northeast.
A major highway that runs through Philadelphia is flooded. It’s flooded to the overpasses and their signs. It’s wild.
The Schukhill crested this morning taking cars with it. Shelter in place orders.
I’m down the shore where we got almost none of this mess but I was home in Philly until yesterday morning. I drove on that major highway yesterday.
Massive tornadoes took out a town near us. The pictures are devastating.
I have absolutely no idea when that water is going to recede - a pumping station at 22nd Street failed. They also didn't close the expressway westbound until the water started surging towards Broad and guess who was sitting in her car trying to get to the Broad Street exit? 😬 And Made in America? I can only hope they cancel it. I'm glad you're safe down the shore.
It’s very bad. One of the tornadoes touched down about a mile from our house. We were in the basement. We got an extraordinary amount of rain. We are very lucky we have no damage.
