seeyalater52, thank you for asking references before putting them down. I've had several reference calls this year for people who gave me no heads up that they put me down. And I barely worked with these people and did not supervise them.
So that made for an awkward conversation with the hiring person.
Well, looks like plans are already changing for the show tonight. We were meeting up with friends for outdoor dining, but the place just called bc they have closed outdoor dining because of the forecast. So, we changed it up to takeout that H will pick up and we will eat at my place. I have no idea if my high maintenance, foodie friends, who would whine about walking, will join 😂
And I just gotta say, I know I’m that annoying friend that hates to set plans and just wants to play things by ear. But this is why, it’s stressful to have to call an audible and make a contingency plan last minute. Plus, if you get too set on plans, and then they don’t happen, it’s disappointing. So yeah, I’m that person who will generally prefer to play it by ear than set reservations and set times.

LOL, whereas I like to have a plan and a backup plan. Probably a spreadsheet. With tabs.
Mostly food. I just want there to be a plan for food. Sometimes I let my husband hustle me out of hte house with no plan for what we're going to eat and i always end up with regrets. that man doesn't get hungry until like 2 PM most days but I wake up at 4:45 AM and run (or swim or bike) for an hour+, and then he tries not to feed me. THERE MUST BE A FOOD PLAN.

I hate job searching. Every job I've applied for requires references on the online application form. One job I applied for last year, after I clicked "submit", IMMEDIATELY sent an email to my listed references asking them to fill out a form! They hadn't even reviewed my resume yet! So even though my references knew I was job searching, they weren't exactly prepared for an email that day. It was so awful. THEN, to make it all worse, that job didn't even call me for an interview.

And a parking plan lol. I am that person who is Google Earth-ing the brunch spot to make sure I know what the parking options are and where they're located.
We are putting a losing bid on a house today! Yay! It's 100K over asking (and it's priced at the top of the comps for that size and neighborhood) but it's a hot market. We'd expect from the disclosures to need to put another 100-200K into repairs before move in so we aren't budging.

This is what is so awkward about it! It feels like a ton of work as the candidate to have to contact and prep references when I dont even know if they’ll seriously consider me for the position. And since I’m currently employed and it isn’t well known that I’m job searching that’s an awful lot of people who are now privy to details I’d prefer to keep under wraps as long as possible (esp since I have a couple of alternate references that I use depending on the type of position I’m applying for and the work they supervised me doing.)

Ahhh food. That is the crux of tonight’s issue. Our friends have bailed because they want to eat out, not take out. I kinda feel bad, but kinda don’t care. They are complaining that we changed plans, but they would have complained if the takeout wasn’t good enough. Dude, I just unpacked my china this weekend. I would have made it fancy 😂
I am studying for the Canadian citizenship test because I have to take it in the next 2 weeks. So many names. So many dates. I'm clearly out of practice with deciphering important information and cramming it into my head.

Good luck! My H will be taking that test in another year. 🙂

I have been taking all the practice exams and can score above 75% on them (need 15/20 to pass the official test), but I'm nervous to take the actual test. A lot of the questions are pretty easy to answer because it's multiple choice and logical deduction, but the questions with historical dates and people.... eeesh. H is a history nerd and he's still struggling with some of them.

Fuck that place for real.
At the very least it should tell the applicant this is happening. What an immense waste of so many people's time (but probably not their own as they wouldn't look at the responses from candidates they're not interested in).
Rant: job applications that ask for a resume and cover letter and then force you to enter your entire resume into an online form on top of that, along with mailing addresses and phone numbers for every position you’ve had for the past 15 years.
Rant part 2: job applications that want the names and contact information for 3 professional references upfront when you submit your materials. I wasn’t expecting to need that until later in the process so now I’m waiting on one of my references to return my email with their new phone number so I can actually submit everything.
I have been asked this by a recruiter and I just refuse. Nope nope nope you aren't contacting people in my professional life unless I decide I actually want the job. You can trust people all day long but no one needs to know I'm job hunting unless it serious because people make mistakes and talk. If an online form asks I write something like "will provide as needed".

I agree on point #1. Drives me up a wall.
Funny story, I tried to basically do that in the annoying AF online form but each individual field for 3 references was required to actually submit the form and putting something in the phone or email fields that wasn’t numbers or xxxx@yyy.zom formatted caused it to error out. I caved and did it because the job in question is one I’m very qualified for and I have a relationship with the hiring manager as do most of my references but I’m going to be so annoyed if I don’t end up advancing beyond the initial interview I’m sure I’ll get as a professional courtesy.
Job hunting is the fucking worst. It’s been a long time since I was on this side of it because the job hunting drama in my household has been localized to my wife for so many years and… dislike. 0/5 stars. Also working late every day at my actual job, breaking to eat dinner and attend to life stuff and then working on job applications and networking late into the night is not my idea of a good time. I’m exhausted.

Yes! And, to add insult to injury one of my reference had trouble with the online form and, b/c she's so nice and such a cheerleader for me, called HR to get it figured out. I was mortified. I actually told her not to bother, b/c I couldn't imagine working for a place that was run so poorly, but she did it anyway.
The place I just started at back in March was much more laid back about references and didn't ask me for them until after they made me an offer. Much more my style.
I was so relieved! I was kind of dreading being rained on.
When she was singing "I'm only happy when it rains" I was like "please don't tempt fate here!"
I don’t know. There were drops here and there (on my glasses 😣), and I kept thinking I could use a light rain to cool down. It was steamy!!!
It was so sticky!
I hate being stuck in the rain when I can't get indoors and change, though. I got stuck in a rain storm leaving a concert a few years ago and the trip home was miserable. At least this one was close to home, but I still had to wait forever to get out of the parking garage!
Well, Alanis was awesome. And Ida held off until about 4am. But dude… I wore my music mask and… it’s denim. Fuck that was stupid in this humidity.
the weather totally came through for us. My 1999 crush on Shirley Manson totally holds up.
Shirley is a goddess; I still hold out hope that one day I can grow up to be half as cool as her. If you haven't listened to her podcast, The Jump, it's great. The new season has an interview with Alanis, and I could have listened to at least another hour of the two of them talking.
It looks like we'll be shopping for a new car when we get home and for once I actually mean new.
Anyone want to recommend their hatchback? Initially considering the Civic, Corolla, and Impreza. A Hyundai is a hard pass and I'm not sure MH would consider a Kia even though we loved a Soul we had as a rental.
I just had the most amazing thing happen. I emailed the wrong document, so I made the usually futile attempt to recall and replace. And I got the message back that it was successfully recalled. From both people!!
I was issued a new work laptop, and I think it will be more functional than the tablet I had before. It's a pain in the ass signing into everything, though.

Sorry about your car! I’ve got a Leaf that’s a hatchback if you’re interested in going full electric. 😁

I'm really irritated. I was going to get off at 1:30 and be able to go home to a quiet house, but the staff that was supposed to cover for one of our docs got pulled to cover somewhere else and now I'm stuck. I know it seems irrational, but I'm just so mad that now I don't get my alone time. GRRR.

Thanks to your reassurance, I finally used my free time this morning to actually schedule that mammogram.
Guys, it was the best medical appointment scheduling experience in my life. I want their scheduling lady to schedule all my medical appointments from here on.
