Also considering supporting the groups who continually fight the legal battles to stop these laws every time they pop up (Planned Parenthood, Center for Reproductive Rights, ACLU/ACLU Texas, etc).
Just so anyone who isn't here knows what all these laws are doing:
-outlaw abortion after a heartbeat is detected (around 6 weeks, would make illegal around 85% of abortions)
-allow anyone in the US (literally anyone, a protestor, their rapist, they don't even have to know the patient) to sue anyone in Texas who helps another person obtain an abortion after the cutoff (can sue a doctor, a family member, a friend or volunteer who drives them to their appointment, or someone who works/volunteers at an abortion fund)
-and they would be awarded a $10k bounty plus cost of legal fees for a successful lawsuit
It's fucking gross. The 5th court of appeals cancelled a hearing to challenge it a couple days ago with like no notice, so several of the above orgs have asked the supreme court to step in and block it, but no idea if or when that may happen.

Adding a few:
Jane's Due Process (https://janesdueprocess.org) Abortion Access Front - they work across the country, not just in Texas but they've been very active and vocal (https://www.aafront.org) Repro Legal Defense Fund (http://reprolegaldefensefund.org)
This is where I ask for you to give money to abortion funds instead of PP , there is alot of work being done to ensure that folks in texas can obtain procedures after 6 weeks and it requires out of state travel and lodging. I am happy to help find you a fund/organization if you want to donate. T
Do you know if any of the organizations use private residences for lodging? I’ve been thinking about getting a tiny home to Airbnb and to use for people needing to travel for their choice. I also have a spare room if the need is sooner.

typically no, they are in hotels for safety reasons but given the influx CO will have it might be worth reaching out to organizations to float the idea for a permanent housing option for clients after their procedures.
I figured hotels would be preferred but also thought we're close and hotels are so $$$. I'll look into it but if you hear of anything, you know where to find me.
Does anyone know if any of this can be undone if we can get him out of office? If not I don't know how much longer I can take it here. So many good people fighting against him and just like that it feels like none of it mattered.

Not him alone. We need representatives and senators as well to actually pass new legislation.
I'm throwing money left and right, but beyond that I don't know what to do. I feel like this is how people decide that mixing up fertilizer and driving near government buildings is a good idea. It won't change shit, but it'd be nice to watch things burn.
Yikes, that Vox article is chilling. Republicans seem to have made it their mission to find ways to subvert the rule of law. It's pretty worrisome for democracy in general.
Thank you for sharing this. I hadn't even considered the bigger picture beyond abortion that it describes, e.g.
Just as significantly, they will bless a tactic that could be used to undermine virtually any constitutional right. Imagine, for example, that New York passed an SB 8-style law allowing private individuals to bring lawsuits seeking a $10,000 bounty against anyone who owns a gun. Or, for that matter, imagine if Texas passed a law permitting similar suits against anyone who criticizes the governor of Texas.
The really chilling part for me is this line: Instead, by doing nothing in Whole Woman’s Health, the justices sent a clear signal that they don’t think the ordinary rules should apply to litigants they dislike.
I don’t believe any judge is truly impartial, but there’s a big difference between trying and failing to see all of your biases and what we have with starkly partisan judges who use flimsy excuses to justify outright cruelty to groups they dislike. When I think of all the progress we’re making in the social perception of race, and gender bias, and how we address injustice, I’m worried about what happens when we lose steam if it’s all blocked by a SC that only cares about their ideology. I keep thinking of that opinion piece a few years ago “The Cruelty is the Point.”
I guess the request for an emergency stay was denied, but they’ll still rule on the emergency hearing. Maybe that’s why I’m not seeing more headlines? Because this is horrifying but there’s hardly any reporting on it.
I just read the Vox article and I feel I have a better idea of what this crazy law did (insane) and what was really fucked up about this lack of anything that happened last night.
I also just kind of sit here boggled that it’s been almost 50 years since Roe, and yet… for a certain portion of our citizens, it’s still the most important voting issue, while we watch the dumpster burn around us.
I don't really even know what to say. The whole thing is terrifying, both the precedent setting part and the threat of abortion access being taken away finally coming to fruition. My life would be infinitely harder and extremely different in every way if I had not had access to abortion when I needed it. I cannot understand why people think they get to make the decision to ruin someone else's life, but that applies to a lot of things these days I guess.
A million miles past the point, but where are they getting the money for these abhorrent bounties? And is there any guarantee they’re going to follow through on paying them, or are they just going to accept the “tip” and then find some loophole where they don’t have to actually pay?
People are unhoused and starving and drowning in debt, but they can afford $10k to some sick fuck who wants to tattle?

The way I read it (from the Vox article), the defendant (aka, the person seeking the abortion) pays.
