I haven't used a cup, but I just had a Mirena put in last week and the gyn said tampons are fine so I wouldn't think a cup is a problem? But you can just ask. I haven't had to use anything yet.

Do take ibuprofen before you go to get the insertion. I forgot to this last time and almost passed out. But I’m not the strong, silent type. If I were to do it again, id remember the ibuprofen, and then take a Valium and have someone give me a ride.

How was the insertion pain?
It was fine! I’m not generally a baby about pain but with gyn stuff I kind of am. I took 600 mg Advil an hour before my appointment. It was very quick - she did my pap first then talked me through the insertion. When she put the IUD I feel a strong cramp and one sharp pain on my right side that I pressed down on and it went away. Then we were done, that part was maybe a few minutes? No bleeding and she said I was an easy insertion. I’ve honestly not really thought about it since, no cramping or bleeding. Good luck with yours!

I have a Mirana and only get the lightest spotting, and even then it's only some months. I use a liner for that. I asked my Gyn about a cup and he said no, so ask your Gyn what they think. The first one I had inserted was totally no big deal, the second one hurt, but was over pretty quick.

I prefer the disc to a cup but I’ve used the disc successfully for at least the past year. I’ve also used tampons successfully.
The risk with the cup is accidentally pulling out the IUD from the suction. Make sure you’re comfortable with the strings (I needed to have my trimmed) and you feel comfortable checking them each month.
ETA: I have Paragard. No pain at all during insertion, but I did get it six weeks after a drug-free birth — so not only was my cervix still a bit open, but anything would have seemed easy at that point.
I used tampons at first, but then my period went away about month 4 or 5. I haven't had a period since (~12 years).
ETA: I'm on my third Mirena. First two went in okay, it was very painful for about an hour, then just crampy for a few hours after that. Third one didn't want to go in. I ended up being put under to have it inserted on the third try which wasn't fun but I love having an IUD so much that it was still worth it for me.
If you haven’t given birth before, I suggest asking your doc for a prescription for cytotec to take before the procedure and a pain killer.
Well I had a c section, dilated to a 6 before the c section.
I woke up from sedation c section to pure death defying pain from my incision with little to no pain medication so I assume it won't be that bad at least!
It’s entirely possible that the anticipation is worse than the procedure. I felt pressure and a pinch (2 insertions). And while there was a moment when I thought “on, no! This is it!” It totally passed without issue. Then I went back to work.
I hope it goes easy for you, too.
I use a liner when I have any period. Mostly to save my underwear from getting stained.
I think you can use whatever you normally use. I will spare you my insertion story, lol. It is def an outlier.
Same. There are previous threads that discuss more of our experiences if you want to search. Many people are fine and don’t have any problems. I wasn’t one of those people though.
the first year after getting my mirena I had my period every few weeks. It felt never ending. I used tampons.
Then they just stopped. It has been 4 years without a single period. Best thing ever.
I would think you can use your cup whenever you have bleeding, not sure why you couldn't.
Also, don't be scared! I do not recall any pain at all getting mine. Some discomfort as is always the case when someone is up in your vag, but nothing major at all.
