I worked at a fancy Relais and Chateaux bed and breakfast 20 years ago and loved the robes they had in the rooms. They're a sueded microfiber on the outside and like a baby terrycloth on the inside. I've always wanted one even though I don't wear robes. They're like this: www.amazon.com/Plush-Necessities-Luxury-Spa-Robe/dp/B07BJ8S5DR
celeste, hazelden -- thanks! I felt silly making a whole thread for this, but DH and I don't wear robes and this relative specifically requested one, so I was at a loss. I'll check out these two recs.
If they like flannel, I swear by the LLBean ones. LOL, I'm wearing one I bought my son right now. I was happy when he outgrew it, lol. They break in beautifully.
My DH is very tall, so I make him robes sometimes. The one I made at Christmas was a reversible with nursery fleece- not a task I would recommend for any but the most seasoned home sewer- but the fabric is the softest I've ever found. It's a bitch to wash because of it's weight, but it comes out as soft as when it was new with no pilling.

I love my fleece LL Bean robe so much, but I only recommend it if you live someplace cold. The last few winters in NC have been so mild that I've barely worn mine.
