I get summoned for jury duty all the time but I've never been on a trial. I have it again at the end of September. I think this is my 7th time being called.
Today is my normal work remote day and I'm incredibly thankful for it today. I'm tired and am getting too old for the start of semester shenanigans. So I'm happy to be kicked back in a comfy chair and I have a pretty light calendar. And knowing that I'm off both tomorrow and Monday certainly helps.
My H's bday is Sunday and I've really not done anything for it. I did order a present and that arrived so at least there is that. But I feel bad because I'm already not great about things like this but coupled with the fact that his bday coincides with the start of the semester makes it seem like I always just phone it in. My kid doesn't have school tomorrow so I'll take her to pick up some stuff for it so it's not qite so sad.
I’m glad you don’t have to go! That sounds annoying all around.
I may have passive aggressively brought serving utensils as a “hostess gift” in a similar situation. I can’t imagine hosting and not bothering to own a big spoon lol It really a pet peeve of mine.
Oh believe me, if I had to go again I'd have grabbed a handful of the plastic serving utensils from the catered lunches at my office! The party was so big and hectic no one would even have noticed me putting them out. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this peeve, and I've seen it at other gatherings. That and no ice drives me nuts - like oh I'm having a party, bring what you like to drink! I'm not a beer drinker and prefer cocktails over wine at some parties so I'll bring vodka. I'll go to make a drink and find empty ice cube trays in the freezer lol. H calls me ice insecure because I'll often pack a small cooler with ice for parties and I'm constantly fretting over our ice maker. "There's less ice than normal in here, did you use it for something?" "I don't think I've heard ice drop today, is the ice maker working?"
You are not alone!
It’s easy to not host! Don’t do it if you can’t be bothered with the basics. Ice, cups and utensils are like the bare minimum.
Are you testing for symptoms or because of an exposure? Everything I've read says that the rapids are pretty accurate if you are testing for symptoms, but not as good if asymptomatic. If you are testing because of close contact, I'd try to do both or get the PCR and quarantine until the results. If they won't let you do both, you could also do the home rapid test while you wait for the PCR, which is only like $25 at CVS. BinaxNow is the one I've used.
Both younger kids are home as close contact quarantines. DD has had headaches 2 days in a row and yesterday started nasal congestion.
I downloaded it, but it sounds like it costs money to send money? This is how our photog wants to be paid.
I think for businesses it costs THEM money to get paid that way, but not you. But I usually only use it for exchanging payments to friends or FB sale stuff.
ETA: Maybe it costs money to send by credit card? I only use my bank.
We leave for Namibia and Botswana in 22 days and I cannot wait. I am so burnt out and desperately miss international travel.
I loved our trip to Namibia and Botswana! Where are you going?
21 nights in the Skeleton Coast, Namib-Naukluft Park, Okavango Delta, Savuti Marsh, and Makgadikgadi Pans. This will be our third trip to Africa. We are addicted! We were at Chobe for a few nights several years ago. We thought this type of trip would be relatively safe, Covid wise, since we will mostly be in the middle of nowhere. I am excited to be far away from the internet and most people for a few weeks.
DD2 is the youngest kid most get togethers and I *hate* it. H and I end up supervising all the kids while all the other parents hang out and chat because we have to keep an eye on her. I feel your pain. DD1 is old enough now that we let her run off mostly unsupervised.
I briefly thought about inviting people over for Labor Day, but the weather keeps changing and I don't want to do it inside. I'm having really mixed feelings about it, sad that we can't because our kids are still unvaxxed but happy to have a free weekend.
Exactly! And because it's H's friends that live on the Cape that he doesn't get to see often, he would be off socializing while I had DD stuck to me. Plus the wives of those friends are all close so I don't feel like I really have anyone to talk to there. The last time we went she was 4 and I told him he was welcome to go to the party next year, and bring her if he wanted but I wasn't attending. Covid took care of that! I wondered if they would try to have it this year but I haven't heard anything and I'm glad. She's a lot more independent now and would probably be fine but I'd rather do other things.
Ugh, that doesn't sound fun at all! Good for you for sticking up for yourself! I had this issue with H when we'd see his family, he'd be off with the adults the whole time and I'd be stuck on child duty for all the kids. I finally started sending him to visit his parents alone. They get family time and I get a day off, win-win!
We had to go to CVS to pick up a prescription for one of the dogs, and DH and I both got flu vaccines and shingles vaccines. It is the first time they actually had the shingles vaccine in stock when we asked, and we have been trying for years.
We picked up fast food for lunch, only because it was on the way home, we were starving and they had a fish sandwich (I am a pescatarian), but when we got home, they had given us two chicken sandwiches.
DH felt bad about it, so while he ate his sandwich he ordered a vegetarian "burnt ends" sandwhich for me from a nearby barbecue place, and a slice of cake. I guess I can't be too upset with how it all turned out. The sandwich was much better than a fish sandwich from BK, and big enough that I am going to save half for lunch tomorrow. DH can have the second chicken sandwich for his lunch.
This morning I was cutting some bamboo that we want to remove down to a reasonable height. I had gotten quite a bit done, but when I got to the back corner of the yard, something stung me on the hand. I am used to being eaten alive by insects on a regular basis, (welcome to Florida!), but this was something new to me. Whatever they were, they were coming at my face and hands with speed and determination. They were pretty small and fast, and I was trying to bat them away, so I didn't get a good look at them, but the bites/stings felt like little razor cuts. I came inside and used the little syringe type thing that sucks out the venom, and I took allergy medicine, so it's not bad at all now, but it was really weird and really hurt then.
I was actually the foreman on a jury trial. It was a classic case of how the rich get special treatment. This case NEVER should have gone to trial. Classic case of a 17 yr old girl dating a 19yr old boy and the ridiculously naive and rich parents find out their little Susie is having sexual relations with Johnny. (names changed)
There's someone on my local buy nothing FB page searching for accessories for her milk bath pregnancy photo shoot. I just do not get the appeal of these at all. The whole thing is very odd and what do you do with the pictures when you are done? It seems like one of those things that only works if done in a very specific way and most people don't do it well so it's just pictures of them laying in a bathtub of milky water, fully clothed (or not).

I had not seen these before so I googled it. I already thought the whole goddessy flowy gowns and flower wreath crown pregnancy photos were very.....NMS, but this is something else. But I guess the same could be said for boudoir photos - what are you going to do with them really? Yet I did it and now have the album hidden so DD won't come across it lol.

starburst604, or I wonder if the the boudoir photos somehow get out on social media or another public forum? While they're tasteful, some professions, say teaching, will say they're not appropriate, even on your own time. Anecdote...a special education assistant in my area, who was lovely and fabulous and great at their job, "resigned" when a "scandal" broke out that pre-teaching they posed semi or fully nude I forget. Eh, I get it, esp teaching young children, but like it wasn't something she posted regularly I think someone just found them.
Also apparently people do those shoots in the theme of their spouses profession (think fire fighting or police work). I guess it's good for them, but I don't know too much living the lifestyle? I don't know judgey party of 1 I guess.
I realized only last night as my 2nd class started that it runs until 10pm.
WHYYYYYY. 😭
I'm the worst teacher but there's 0 chance I'll be running class the full length. 😬
I had a class that met from 7:10-10p in the mid-2000s for my first masters degree. OMG. It was SO freaking late. And some of the people in the class had a class BEFORE that one on the same day, from 4-6:50. Hello, education-school professors, we get up at 5am to get ready to go to work, at work by 6:30a in many cases.
It was education law, and the professor was a bare-necessities guy; he stripped down the course to its core elements and we were out of there every night by 9. He was our favorite, lol.

I work from 7 to 330, then teach from 4 to 7 and then 7:10 until 10, apparently.
My whole class cheered as I simultaneously realized it and declared that wasn't happening. One woman even said, "Oh bless you!". LOL

We’re doing family pictures in a few weeks. I always wear jeans and a top. I’ve lost a decent amount of weight since our last pictures so I thought I’d try out a dress this time. I’ve bought some from Amazon and thought I found a contender. No I’m not going to look like the 115 lb model but I didn’t think I looked bad. Sent a picture of it to my mom and SIL. No response from my mom all day until she calls tonight to tell me every way it was unflattering to my body type and what she thinks I should wear instead. I’m almost 40 and I still let her get to me this way.

Wear the dress! I always wear dresses for family photos. So flattering! I hate when parents think they have the right to cut their kids down. It’s just as easy to send back, “You look great, honey!”
