I like when Chemistry teachers explain that Chemistry is also the environment, your body and health. It's why people can get cancer from pollution or why you take certain medications (I know that's also Microbiology).
Also Chemistry is hard AF lol. To Sproct's point, my HS Chem teacher was mad she had to teach it (Biology by training) so we did a lot of math and periodic table. I feel like I didn't learn what I was supposed too.
I also don't appreciate that general chemistry is just math with a good disguise.
I was just coming into to say that!
Chemistry is secret math.
Although I did better in chemistry by a lot than I did math because it all had context and application unlike my math classes where it was just problems to solve.
I guess if I was being serious I’d say it’s the study of compounds and elements and how they interact and change? It’s been a long time since high school.

Truth! I hated chemistry and physics because of this. Loved biology. My math loving kid says he hates science and I’m like why? There’s so much math!

I skipped physics and did Zoology instead. I’m no fool lol

It's not math math, really lol. (Imo)
I love and adore math and hated and struggled in chemistry and physics.
But there's life sciences and physical sciences and "soft" sciences so maybe he doesn't like a specific subset.

Well you are darn smart and lucky! I went to a small school and you took what was offered. I can’t remember what 9th was, maybe just basic science, but the Only science for sophomore year was chem and the only one for junior year was physics. Senior year I think we had two choices snd I took ap bio and loved it, but avoided science in college because too math-y!!

True. Balancing chemical equations makes me want to break out in hives. I think he doesn’t like it because he thinks he should be allowed to make messes and blow things up…he’s that kind of kid lol.

Not if you had a good teacher, it isn’t!
It has a lot of math, but so much good science!
This is all fun, thanks y’all!
When I tell people I’m a chem teacher, the first thing almost everyone says to me is I HATED CHEMISTRY. Lol

I got lucky because we switched to a 4 period day in 11th grade and they added new classes to fill the time since year long classes were now only a semester long.
I also had wanted to avoid this one bio teacher (who was a creep and got arrested so I was right about him) going into 9th so my science studies were all over the place. I ended up with environmental science, biology, chemistry then both zoology and geology/earth science for senior year. I should have had GT bio in 9th, then GT chem, then GT physics. We only needed 3 science credits to graduate so a lot of people stopped there or took AP Bio in 12th if they wanted to do that.
Then I was a history major so no math or science really ever again. 🤷🏻♀️

That’s really funny! I liked Chemistry much better than any math class I ever had. My math teachers were all pretty awful. My chemistry teacher wasn’t great but he was good about making connections to the real world. That made it make a ton more sense.

Same "bad" (just not interested) Chemistry teacher told me not to take Bio in college if you're not a Bio major as the subject changes so much the prof would ding you for not keeping up with the latest research. This mind you was early 00's. Anyway I took Physics instead because oh cool toys. Yeah, way too hard, not sure how I got a B for 2 semesters. Bless any of you who can do it full time lol.
All I remember is I was in honours chem and my teacher thought my "bond, ionic bond" joke was funny (it was not original). But I went on to get two arts degrees and now could not tell you thing about chemistry other than really, really basic stuff.
