Im truing to decide between the Yukon and the Bonfire. We would have anywhere from 4-12 people around it. I'm thinking the Yukon, but not sure if that's overkill.
We have both. Our Yukon is the older version which is bigger than the current version.
The Bonfire is much easier to get started, much faster to get to smokeless stage, uses a lot less wood, and burns out faster so when when you’re ready to be done you aren’t sitting around waiting for it to be safe to go inside. But it’s considerably smaller and lets off a lot less heat. We’ve been using it in the summer when heat isn’t really needed and it’s just our family or us and another couple. It’s less impressive looking and we sometimes have trouble fitting regular firewood in it and have to split the logs even more ourselves.
The Yukon is a beast. It lets off a ton of heat. It’s perfect for fall and winter and is much much better for a group. It also uses normal firewood and pretty much anything you can find in your yard to burn - no splitting required. It’s impressive once it gets going. But, it can smoke a bit until it gets hot enough, is more difficult (harder than the BF but way less hard than a normal fire pit) to get started and it absolutely EATS wood. Be prepared to use more firewood than you think.
If you are looking for an entertainment/social centerpiece I’d get the Yukon. For a family fire pit, the Bonfire.
We have the Yukon. I got it for my husband for Father's Day or some other gift giving occasion about a year ago and it has been great. We love it! It is the perfect size for our fairly large, but still in the city, backyard.

Our neighbors have a Yukon with 8 adirondacks around it. We got the Bonfire because our space is smaller and we will typically have 4, maybe 6. (Ours is also been sitting in the box for 2 months. Maybe this weekend!)
I went back and forth on this too when deciding. We went with the Bonfire and are very happy with it, but if you really want to fit up to 12 around it I'd get the Yukon.
We have a small patio area and got the Yukon (the older bigger one) and don’t find it large at all! We just have 4 Adirondacks around it. Could fit more. Dh wants to build one of those surrounds for it next.
This is the first I've heard of these and now I need one! I HATE smelling like a bonfire, but the gas table we got just doesn't give off any heat unless you're right on top of it. Plus, it's annoying to move the tank from it to the grill. I was thinking of getting one of the tall propane heaters, but like this idea better!
We have a bonfire, which is perfect for our family of 4, or when we entertain a few friends. I’d go with the Yukon if I were you since it sounds like you’ll have a bigger group.

I was excited about this too, but I could still smell the smoke in my hair the next day. So I don't know if we're doing something wrong, or the benefit is just that it's not as bad. Lighting it again tonight, will try to pay attention!
