I'd prefer no pets in the office, but I have severe animal allergies, cats have closed my airways and dogs are only marginally better. I had a student with a service dog, I had to ask a colleague to take over his meetings. I've even had cat hair on a coworkers clothes set me off. I have designated conference room chairs. That said, as long as the pets stay out of my space and you understand why I close my door and hide, I wouldn't mind short visits, all day would be hard to work around.
I think a weekly covid thread is a good idea too, keep it all in one place, a regular random and a covid random. Then if I don't have the head space to deal with covid decision exhaustion, I can stick to regular randoms where we talk pets in the office and the horror of pumpkin flavored things.
My DD starts school Tuesday at a new school, I have no idea who her teacher is, she has never been in the building, and as far as I'm aware she knows zero kids there. I have a bus schedule, I plan to put her on the bus and hope for the best.
We paid off our credit card debt today! Two years ago, we had a LOT following my H’s layoff, so this was a huge relief. Celebrated with a shopping spree (using the debit card)!
