What are school's magical secrets?!?! Three days of school and things are already less chaotic in the mornings and evenings. Is it just more tiring so they get better at conserving energy? Peer pressure? The teacher's not his parents so they do a better job listening? Do we need a super structured day that's written out in the morning?
Ugh, niq , opposite. Lucky you! Everyone is overtired, loud and crazy over here after 3 days of school.
Sorry That definitely happened to us with both K and 1st grade for the first week. 2nd grade was the pandemic garbage fire, this year's third grade and I think they start buckling down on self-help at school at that age.
My kid thrives on routine. Things are always a little less chaotic (more busy, but less chaotic if that makes sense) when school starts and the family gets in a routine. Summers and school vacations are always kind of a shit show.

niq all of the above?! My kids do way better with a set routine but this week has been quite an adjustment for my Kinder who has been a hot mess in the evenings. They are definitely fighting less and going to be earlier though!

I have high schoolers but my freshman is not adjusting! She's also doing a sport so right now it's just so intense going to 5 days/week of school, 5 days of practice and competing on Saturdays. They actually have practice before and after school on Thurs, so she's gone for 12 hours on Thursdays. All of this means she's exhausted, cranky, and stressed.
Potty training is SO boring. We spent all day in the house today waiting for DD to pee. There was a lot of pee everywhere. And the weather was beautiful so it was an extra shame. Hopefully tomorrow we can get out of the house, and extra hope that this all works.

Good luck! This is why we’re waiting until late Fall/early winter to PT my almost 3 year old. We will be stuck home anyway then because of the weather. Plus she’s stubborn and refuses to even try to pee on the potty right now, so I think it may be long road. 😭

Thanks and good luck to you! DD has not actually peed on the potty before today too. And she still hasn't initiated it - all pee today started on the floor/couch 😅 she's also pretty stubborn so I'm hoping this 3 day weekend is enough time!
Doing it when the weather is worse is definitely a good call. My parents are watching DD for a week in mid-October though, so I was hoping to leave them with a PTed toddler so it's easier for them.
DD has asked to watch a lot of Peppa Pig recently, and Joe she’s doing that annoying-ass high-pitched squealing cry that George does. AAAAHHHHHH
I had to cut off Peppa pig because my kid kept making the grossest snorting noises. I'm pregnant and it was literally making me gag because I have the most sensitive stomach now lol. Now she's into morphle which I guess is fine. There's no annoying noises from it anyways.

I showed DD a few episodes of Muppet Babies from the 80s, and I had to stop because she kept running around going “hi-ya!” and chopping people like Piggy would do. The newer Muppet Babies is much more gentle and she was obsessed with that for a while, then came Bluey (which I think is adorable).
H and I painted 3 bedrooms, living room, kitchen, sunroom, 3 bathrooms, plus the entry/stairway and upstairs hallway over the last week. I’m exhausted and my hands hurt lol. It looks so nice though! I still have 3 more rooms to do but I’m going to wait until ds2 is back at school and not home quarantining anymore.

niq, I agree completely. While we've had our hot mess evenings, overall AJ's behavior has been much improved since school started. I do think the increased expectations in third grade are helping-they have planners they have to fill out daily with their "homework" (usually 20 minutes of reading and maybe a math review worksheet) and in general have a bit more expectations on them. Plus in our case, AJ got what I'm told is the strictest teacher in the school which helps because she makes sure he toes the line and doesn't try to tip toe over it like he tries at home.
