It's Roseola! I'm relieved and they were glad I brought him in. They said while it doesn't blanche, when you stretch it, it lightens which is good. Also measles was another possibility even though he is fully vaxxed, there are breakthrough cases.
He has been cleared for his 2nd covid dose today.

I'm completely freaking out. Anyone have their child vaccinated and they broke out in a petechial rash?
My son is 12 and broke out in a rash. I thought it was a usual run of the mill contact dermatitis but called pedi. They had me send pictures through an app, asked a follow up question about whether it would blanch after pressing on it. It didn't.
Pedi called me but it was already 6pm. She asked more questions and then mentioned a petechial rash and blood platelets being low and that would be concerning. She mentioned maybe going urgent care but I asked about their sat appts at a different location so she sent a request for an appt. I ha e to call at 8am and try to get in.
Well, I dove down the Google dark hole and its coming up that it's rare but some have gotten that rash after the covid vaccine. He had his first dose 3 weeks ago.
Now I'm freaking out. Do I bring him to the ER or wait until morning? its 9pm right now.
I’m not a doctor or have any medical training beyond watching ER and Grey’s Anatomy, but I think it would be really unusual to break out in a rash from a vaccine you got 3 weeks ago.
I would wait until tomorrow for urgent care. If it was a situation for the ER the doctor would have told you to go there vs urgent care. I had a rash like that after I had mono, at the time I went down the dr google rabbit hole too and was totally freaked out but it resolved over a few weeks. Your son is at prime age to get mono, so maybe it’s from that?
I had this from Motrin and had no issues. My platelet test was normal.
Could you call the pedi back for their advice?
Otherwise I might head in with a few caveats. Are the ERs functioning ok in your area? Or would it just be a very long wait with no beds? Does that hospital have people on staff that are capable of working with pediatric patients?
Many times I make the longer drive to the Children’s hospital because our local hospital has no pediatric ability at all. Luckily another hospital was built recently that has some Children’s staff.

Thats what I thought and didn't even consider it until I was reading online people were getting it weeks out. He noticed it 4 days ago but I thought it was a heat rash or something until it got worse.
I wish I called yesterday and had him seen at pedi today.

The two times I have been sent to the ED by the pediatrician (once via an after hours call and the other while at the office) they have been very clear that I had to get my child seen right away. Another time I called and the on call doc mentioned a peds urgent care that was open until midnight but when I asked about just waiting until the next morning he said that was fine. So in my experience, I think you are fine waiting until tomorrow to be seen. If you are really uncomfortable, call back and ask.

I don't think so buy I guess anything is possible but he seems fine otherwise.

I honestly don't know. I've only been twice in the past 15 years for the kids. Both raging eat infections.
