And we made it to Thursday of the 3rd week before receiving our first in-class notice. The child was last at school last Friday, so it's been almost a week since possible exposure. DD isn't having any symptoms & DH wants to test....our at-home COVID tests aren't very reliable for asymptomatic COVID & I also doubt she actually has COVID. ETA - our elementary school does NOT require masks, I ask my children to wear them & they say that they do (except lunch & recess) For a school with roughly 1K kids, there have been 33 students & 9 staff that have tested positive since school started

I'd go get a PCR. You are 5-7 days out so the timing is right.

I rapid tested the night we got the notice of our close contact with a BinaxNOW test and then got PCRs for day 8 & day 10. Our district "requires" you test to clear a close contact but I was advised as the PTA president that they don't actually require it and it was on your honor.

A couple weeks ago I posted saying that parents in our district were open about how they planned to send their kids to school even if they know they have COVID, and that they wouldn’t participate in quarantines. Well, we made it 7 fucking school days before DD came home saying that one of her classmates had COVID starting on Sunday and was back in class today. Her mom just told her to wear a mask so she didn’t spread it. Even better, her twin sister is also in the class, not quarantining, and sits at DD’s table. I’m really hoping DD misunderstood something, but I doubt it. Fuck!

While I’m throwing shit everywhere because I’m so angry over our situation, I’ll throw some more for you & your situation. I am just beyond livid. I’m so sorry you’re also in a backwards state that cares more about votes than kids.

Thank you. I’m sorry you’re dealing with your situation. Hopefully COVID passes easily and quickly in your house with minimal issues.

Let me know if/when we’re storming the admin building. I’ll bring donuts.

Tomorrow night, the PTO is having a family fun night on the playground. The superintendent and principal are both supposed to be there. I can’t decide if it’s a really good idea or a really bad idea for me to go, given the anger I am feeling right now.

I'm sorry to those of you dealing with bad situations. Ugh. :/
E said he is one of 2 or 3 kids in his class wearing a mask. Apparently some of the kids were trying to take his mask and tell him he didn't need it on the first day. Grr. He told me he WANTS to wear it so that's a plus. I've told him I'm really proud of him for wearing it anyway!
Someone please tell me that I'm 100% making the right choice to pull my unvaccinated 11 year old from a 6th grade class trip to Washington DC happening later this month.
I'm doing it, we can apply the funds paid toward a future trip and I have two additional kids so we aren't out anything financially. So many cherrypicked variables and reports pushed by the school to try and prove that it's safe to travel with unvaccinated kids right now. Apparently only 5-6 parents have objected, everyone else is just going along with it.
Fuck no. My kids have been in school, since August 1st. Every day or two, I get a notice of a covid case, and they are an age to be fully vaccinated, which many, if not most, kids are (land of the CDC). Meanwhile, I know 3, 11 and unders who have covid, despite their parents best efforts, other than sending them to school, and these are all people who avoided any household covid for the last 1.5 years. A trip to DC sounds completely insane. Our schools are not even doing field trips and require mask, except at lunch, and lunch is outside, even when it is hot as hell.
My heart goes out to those of you dealing with untenable situations. I hate that states have made schools responsible for public health policy, especially in places with trumpster school boards. It is insane, and not in any way beneficial to public health or our children.
This makes me so excited and so furious. We only had to take measures for our kids for SUCH a short time. And we couldn’t do it. As it is, my kids are still likely to be in quarantine when the vaccine is approved.
We did EVERYTHING right. The ONLY thing my kids have done indoors with other people in the last 18 months is school. And they made it 12 days.
I am SO FUCKING ANGRY.
But also, so relieved and excited for everyone else. Honestly, with this news, if I was in Florida, Texas, Iowa, etc., I would likely pull my kids from school until it’s approved. School is dangerous. And when our kids are out, the extent of our education is “Check Schoology.” So they’re not learning anything anyway.

I don't think this means shots in arms this month. Or maybe even next month? I hope I'm wrong. I read the article and assumed "Soon" was the original sometime this month for Pfizer to submit and then weeks until the FDA approves. How are other people reading this?
2. WTF why couldn't this info been submitted a month ago? It will be too late for so many kids including probably mine since Covid is running rampant at school.
3. Why couldn't they have given us an actual factual date a month ago? We absolutely would have been more likely to keep up protective measures with an actual end date in sight. I mean this still isn't a real date but very close.
4. I don't believe them.
5. I will die mad that kids were not more of a priority.
Covid has done a real number on my mental state, lol.
hermione, we read it the same. I read it as info will be submitted in the next few weeks and then it will be a few more weeks before shots go in arms. Maybe mid/late October? That is still next month and would make the holidays a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

I need the first shot in her arm by November 15 to make Christmas happen with family we haven't seen in two years. Crossing everything!
hermione I am guessing November, hoping for October.
In my city, according to the CDC website, more than 95% of adults are vaccinated, and we STILL had reports of cases at my DD’s middle school, and the high school had to be closed down for two days this week. So even in places where people are following the rules, this Delta variant can wreak havoc.

You’re right. I’m not thinking the most clearly right now. I don’t think it’s going to be shots in arms in 2 weeks…but I’d like to think they’ve already reviewed some of the preliminary data and it won’t be too long once submitted.
But also, my 2nd grader can’t go back until Oct 5th at the earliest. And that’s *if* my H and I don’t test positive. If we do, his 24 days starts over again. His best case scenario at this point is testing positive himself.
I know I said if it isn't the FDA or Pfizer don't talk to me, but she has been reasonably accurate the whole pandemic on vaccine timelines. I'm going to go with Nov 1.

What about the 2-5yo crowd? They're talking 5yo and up, then infant to 2yo. I mean, I hope it's an oversight on the writer's part, but at this point info about kids has been so sketchy...

They haven't been projected until sometime next year.

Everything I've read seems to imply that Pfizer hasn't submitted anything yet. It seems insane to me that if the FDA needs weeks or months to review the data, they haven't started yet. Seems like the first 4 months of data should be the most interesting and take the most time. Considering that vaccine side effects in the 4-6 month range are virtually unheard of (aside from in anti-vax circles, where they will blame every ailment on your flu shot, even if your last one was 2 years ago), it really doesn't seem like it should take them very long to review the 4-6 month data.
