I'm super glad I'm not part of the enforcement arm on this. The administration is relying heavily on companies just complying. I'm sure there's about 50% of the businesses that won't do it until forced. What is even the penalty for not requiring vaccination?
Supposedly $14,000 per violation enforced by OSHA.
I only see that reference in random articles as of now. None of my usual sources are reporting that yet.
I wonder what happens to the employers that don't fall under OSHA (public sector employees of state/county/local govs).
Our state has mandates for school employees. They have not mandated county or local governments, but my thought is that is probably is coming at some point in time because the governor is pro mandates.
We do follow OSHA guidelines in my organization even if they are not technically overseeing us. It would be considered best practice.
I'm hoping that's the way my org goes. CO state employees must be vaccinated or provide bi-weekly testing. That being said, I know there are counties/local govs that will not be mandating unless forced.
Can I complain about feeling like crap here? I have watery, itchy eyes and nose, post nasal drip. congestion, a little coughing, lots of sneezing and I feel wiped out. One family member at home had the same symptoms last Wednesday. We got them a PCR test on Thursday and it came back negative on Friday.
My symptoms started this Tuesday but are definitely worse today. I went and took a PCR test this afternoon and then took an at-home rapid test. The result for the rapid test is negative. I won't know the PCR results until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.
I'm fully vaccinated and I'm a militant mask wearer and social distancer. I'm going to be so pissed if the PCR test is positive. On the other hand, I had this thought earlier of "Oh! What if it's a cold? That's something I haven't had in 18 months."
UGH! Go away, COVID.
We are dealing with this right now. We've tested and it was negative for everyone in the family. Must be a cold or allergies. Air quality is crap, pollen is high, mold is high. All the ingredients are there. It's hard not to freak out and think everything is Covid but other stuff is there.
That said my nose won't stop running and I'm over it. I didn't miss this feeling at all.
The post on The President’s Instagram says that many large corporations are following: vaccinate and test including Fox News. I love that they called them out specifically.

Also included is that all health facilities that accept Medicare or Medicaid funding have to vaccinate their workforces. So that answers the question about if medical personnel are going to job hop.
The fuck? Portland police to be exempt from vax mandate. More ways for them to be weaponized against the citizenry.
The city attorney’s office advised city staff on Tuesday that the order requiring Portland’s police force to be vaccinated was now legally dubious due to new guidance from the Oregon Health Authority.
Under Oregon law, local municipalities can only issue vaccine mandates for firefighters and police officers if there is already a federal or state rule in place that requires it,
Are covid vaccines available in primary doctor offices yet?
We're supposed to be getting them soon. I think by October at the latest.
Oh, this reminds me to thank everyone for their responses. I was wondering as that was brought up as one of the roadblocks to getting vaxxed, and didn't know where this was in the process.
This new plan gives me way more hope than I have had in a while. Making employers do the work or pay is amazing. Please let it hold up in court and be enforced….
They’re also going to ramp up testing, some of the major retailers are going to sell rapid home tests at cost.

Anecdote, but my mother and I were both breakthrough cases last month and honestly we attributed our cases to the decline in masking in this area. The official mask mandates ended in our state early June, and even though you are supposed to wear a mask, if unvaccinated, I'd say maybe 5 percent or less in these parts are wearing a mask, even though the vaccination rate is in the 40s. Especially since I have been working with patients this entire time and had not gotten it until last month.
I was pissed that I got covid mostly because it happened during my vacation, but our cases were mild and everyone else in our immediate family was spared except an @ who was asymptomatic, so no vaccine hate here! I did receive my second vaccine back on inauguration day, so I am definitely. Into the booster situation.

When we first moved to Colorado it was so hard to find a doctor's office that would accept Medicaid patients. Now that I'm on Medicare and Medicaid it has become so much easier to find offices. People will have nowhere to job hop too. Woohoo!

I work for a major construction firm. No way they won’t enforce this, as osha violations are a big deal in this industry (even if this one in particular won’t impact our safety record). I’m super happy about it as I work with a lot of unvaccinated idiots.

I am so relieved for this part. My new hospital had a mandate but we’re losing SO much staff because they refuse to get vaccinated. It’s a safety issue at this point.
I CANNOT WAIT for the anti-vaxxers at my office to either get the shot or get tested weekly.
Now just for DOD to get the testing figured out. That’s the big question for our base.
Our back to office date was pushed back because of the testing plan. But now… no longer needed. I bet there will be some retirements coming up (I’m looking at you Bengazi Truck who rails again socialism while your wife works for social security)

We’ve been back 2 days since July. The DOD exception expired June 30.
I don’t see is going more than 2 days for a while though. We’re at HPCON bravo and the Navy is at charlie.

I wonder how closely the Biden admin worked with the Chamber of Commerce to get these (some? most?) companies on board. I am sure there will be those that protest and file lawsuits, but I'm hoping that most business support this and tell their workers that "well we didn't before, but the government is making us now! what can we do?" It's not like all these employees can quit & easily get a job at <100 person company.
PDQ but I was speaking with a health care facility today who told me that they also are losing nurses due to their vaccine mandate, which was supposed to fully kick in in October, but mostly those people are leaving the industry because they have no where else to go.
And also that due to supply chain issues, tests are starting to become scarce, or will be. People who want to get a test to prove a negative for travel or weddings will be denied. Only symptomatic patients for the near future.
Biden also announce using the Defense Production Act to step up the production of tests, specifically at-home test kits. So hopefully the health care-administered tests can be used for symptomatic people and the home kits can be used for people who want to test for travel or whatever.
My concern is that the home test kits aren’t super-accurate for asymptomatic people, so those might not make a great choice for the people who elect for weekly testing instead of vaccination? Can anyone who currently tests periodically for work weigh in on this?
Yes medicare is taken basically everywhere so that will severely limit job hopping! Every nursing home, home health, doc office, rehab, and hospital.
Assisted living facilities could be a loophole as they are usually private companies and self pay. But to appeal to the residents that pay $$$$ to live there I bet many will require vaccines.
Also people leaving the healthcare field aren’t going to find jobs that pay as well in some areas, unless they have a different highly sought after skill set. As a social worker I made way more working in healthcare than other areas of the field
