Do we all stay home? (H and I are vaccinated, kids are too young for vaccinations)
Both boys are staying home today, but I’m pretty sure Xavier has Covid as his at home rapid test was ever so faintly positive (maybe. I realized that I read it after the 5 minute mark. H didn’t see anything before then but I could swear I saw something). We’re getting another test at a clinic in the afternoon. If Wesley’s is negative again, (his at home test was negative), does he stay home anyway? It won’t be excused unless he has Covid.
And also, fuck every anti mask, anti vaccine bastard out there.
Google is no help, and neither is school.
update: Ok, all the urgent care had was the rapid test and that was negative for both kids. No Pcr tests available until tomorrow at 4pm.

If one kid is positive, the other should quarantine as they are a close contact. And that quarantine clock technically doesn’t even start until your + kid is no longer contagious.
If you can keep them separated that will help reduce the time that you have to keep the negative testing kid home

Per the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/fully-vaccinated.html):
"If you’ve had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you should get tested 3-5 days after your exposure, even if you don’t have symptoms. You should also wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until your test result is negative. You should isolate for 10 days if your test result is positive."
So you and your H wouldn't need to quarantine but should get tested. Per actual scientifically sound guidance, your other son should quarantine since he is not vaccinated. But I guess per idiotic school districts' guidance, he can go to school. I'm so sorry.

If it makes you feel better, my older DD caught COVID from MIL. She's only 7 so I couldn't quarantine her to her room, and no one else caught it from her (DD2 and I were unvaccinated at the time and H was fully vaxxed). And they played VERY closely together.
I'll echo what everyone else said about quarantine rules. I'm sorry you're in this situation.

My husband has covid right now (he’s vaccinated). Obviously the kids and I have been exposed. He is staying elsewhere. My pcr came back negative. The kids rapids also are negative - waiting on pcr results. My son is 13 and vaccinated - the health department said he if he tests negative and exhibits no symptoms he does not need to quarantine. My daughter is 11 and too young to be vaccinated so she has to quarantine ten days. If my son wasn’t vaccinated he’d have to quarantine too.
I'm not sure but I just wanted to say I know how hard you've tried to avoid this and fuck every non vaccinated anti masker - but particularly the actually vaccinated politicians who do one thing and say another making all this worse. 🍷🍷🍷
He should be excused while he waits for test results (goodness knows better than to hold your breath during that). That will buy you a few days of excused absences, then I'd just lie about symptoms/retest to excuse the rest if you need to. It's so frustrating that keeping kids healthy and keeping them in school are competing goals this year.
Texas did last week finally decide if someone in your family tests positive then everyone stays home and it will be excused. Took 3 weeks of school first though. Before that our rules were the same as yours...no excused absence unless you have an actual positive test. Which is dumb because it takes days to get results now unless you are willing to pay serious money.
It's going to be the longest year ever. Enjoy your "normalcy."

I'm in Texas which is just a step above florida but we actually have a plan in place for virtual/asynchronous learning for students if they're out due to covid. And this will make it so they don't get absences.
Are you sure he has to go to school? You are in Orange County right? I think the protocols are the same as mine. Stay home and can return after a negative test taken on 5th day (assuming you kept them apart). However there will be no virtual instruction I believe.
I think those at home rapids are inconsistent with false positives and negatives so can you test your son who pulled the at home positive too?
Eta you're getting both retested it sounds like
I'd keep them all home til you have the new test results personally
Yes. Both are home until we get the results of the clinic’s test. I gave Xavier another one and I don’t really see a line but I swear at certain angles I see *something* I gave myself one and see the same thing so maybe this test just isn’t awesome? The other ones we used were electronic so there was no interpretation needed.

No, definitely not sure. The attendance office person seemed more confused than I was.

ah yes I assume it’s the same shit as Pinellas where no one knows anything.
Slide 18 seems to me that the absences should be excused. They would change them after the positive test comes through for his brother. HOWEVER if the test is negative, i am not sure what it would be?

I'm hoping both are negative and these are just head colds or allergies or whatever. But I never want to assume it's "just a _____".
I don't mind if today is an unexcused absence, I was just worried that if I had to quarantine wesley, per CDC guidelines (which don't seem to be the school's guidelines), will i get into legal trouble for keeping him home, since there will be no instruction or education for as long as he's home.
What's super annoying is that I do not get the same answer from the people I speak with. I get one answer from Wes's school attendance, a different answer from Xavier's school attendance, and way different answers from their teachers (who I didn't ask, I just let them know that I was testing them for covid out of precaution, and then they told me what they think the rules are)

Yes. And retest PCR. I hope it comes back negative.

I'm hearing lots of stories they are unreliable to be honest
I hope it turns out they were faulty for your guys sake
So we're going to now have threads where people post pics of their at home COVID tests and ask if we all see a line or not? Forget pregnancy tests, Covid tests are the new rage.
*Just trying to bring some levity to the situation. I would 100% be the same way, is it a line? Is it the sun? Shadows, who knows!?

That’s exactly what I thought of. Lol. Wasn’t it tamb that would invert the pictures to try and find a line?

I would keep both boys home since they are unvaccinated and that’s the CDC guideline. For you and your husband, I would mask up and test in 3-5 days IF the boys’ test is positive.
This just sucks. The “right” thing to do is to keep them both home. The way this idiotic backwards states are doing things actually punishes anyone who is following the CDC guidelines. It’s not about “choice”, it’s about punishment. It’s infuriating…and will no doubt, cost lives.
We’ve gotten two close contact notices from the bus so far. It may be flameworthy, but we’re not quarantining. Literally no one else is. So we’re not protecting anyone (especially since the bulk of kids aren’t even wearing masks)…and only hurting my 5th grader by keeping him home 10 days with zero instruction for kids at home. It makes me want to throw things.
However, we would keep both kids home if there was a positive case in the home. Even if it meant unexcused absences. I don’t know or care what our district’s policy is, to be honest. I’m guessing it would be a 5 minute phone call and an email of positive Covid test results in the home for the investigation to be over. They don’t have time to care about loving, supportive families who are simply following CDC guidelines. They’ve got their hands full with actual dangerous situations.

This is what my nephews are going through. Kid1 had a cough, tested negative. Likely due to seasonal allergies. Kid2 had a slight headache but tested bc of brothers cough, tested positive. Kid 2 can go back after symptom free and clock runs out (probably 10 days). Kid 1 can’t go back until brother is symptom free + 2 weeks. So the one without Covid will miss 3 weeks of school and the one with Covid will miss 2.
