wildrice, I would probably end up paying, since you didn't speak up at the appointment, but it would still be a good idea to contact them and ask why they didn't get the records from your other doctor, thus forcing you to pay. I'd do that before paying, because they might take it off for you.
Tonight DD and her friend swapped dinners. I made lasagna, which DD hates, and she texted her complaint to her friend, who lives across the street. Her friend was having pot roast and said she'd rather have lasagna. So they swapped (although I did make DD have a small amount of lasagna--before all this went down) and her friend just walked a plate of pot roast over and took back a container of lasagna.
I had a crazy ass day, y'all. Power went out at work 5 minutes post-start time, after a distribution transformer blew right outside our front windows (across the street, up on a utility pole). I happened to have the blinds open in my space, so I saw the whole thing. It looked like fireworks!
A colleague of mine submitted the nicest note about me to the county (we have this recognition thing we do). The recipient gets a copy...and in 28 years of doing this job, I've never had someone so publicly recognize my work. I've been struggling lately w/ self-doubt and little-to-no self-worth, so it feels a little like divine intervention (if you believe in that kind of thing); the person who wrote it will never know exactly how much her kind words were needed and appreciated at exactly this moment.
Oh man, I think DD's school was out for awhile with this same power outage, as was a coworker who was WFH today. Crazy!
I love doing those notes, they make it so easy, I wish more people would use them!

I am just over my Jeep Grand Cherokee and the damn dealership. It has a freaking new engine in it. We drove it to Dallas and back this weekend without any issue. Tuesday morning, hubby is driving to our new house and it FREAKING OVERHEATS!. Dealership says that the hoses were old and needed to be replaced. Umm HELLO??!!?? You just put in a new engine on the damned thing that previously overheated, you should have replaced the hoses! Their response was that they pressure tested the hoses when the engine was replaced and they were fine. Yeah...two weeks... Dumb ass idiots! Even I know that you should replace the hoses.
I want a new Fcuking car! I am tired of this shit and tired of my husband paying for the fixes.
I find it odd that they did the PAP without telling you until afterward at this visit. I’ve only been to doctors (and I’ve been to a ton in many fields) who tell you what they are doing every step of the way. Never have I had a gyno or anyone else say they did a test or took a sample without saying what they were doing first. That alone would be worth mentioning IMO.
I don’t think it matters that you didn’t mention at the time, I’d call and say you were confused why you were billed because you just had the test then this DR did it again so it must have been medically necessary. Either they need to re submit it saying that or they need to tell you don’t have to pay. It’s on them for not reading your records or telling you what they are doing to your body until after they did it.
wildrice I would at least ask if they have a cash discount you can pay.
I am feeling major impostor syndrome at work, and I hate it. I also need to be able to stop thinking about work. Even on weeks when I work a reasonable amount, I feel like I worked constantly because I am always thinking about it and worrying about it and trying to solve problems in my head.

wildrice, I think we've moved on, but I might call to find out why they didn't ask you 800 times when your last pap was before doing another one. When we used to do them once a year they made sure it was one calendar year + one day (or more depending on insurance), because insurance won't pay for it if completed in less time. Now they they do them even less frequently they should really check, or advise you that you might have to pay OOP for a second one if out of sequence with insurance. Also, can they go back and write it up as medically necessary? Worth an ask.
Add me to the Cruella group. I haven't seen the new movie but heard really good things.

I totally agree! This guy is supposed to be the best surgeon around, but he also has a typical surgeon's bedside manner lol. He's done a pelvic exam on me twice and both were the quickest I've ever had. He just jumps in and does his thing and then he's done, vs walking you through it like every other doctor I've ever had do one.
I think I will follow up with them and at least ask.

Now I'm overly invested, but do they still have a female come in the room when any kind of pelvic exam is completed by a male medical professional? If so shouldn't that have happened, or at least asked WR if they wanted a female staff to come in? I guess I'm still just confused how they could do something so invasive (even if they were quick and gentle) without the patient knowing? *I'm not a doctor, GYN or medical professional and could be completely out of date as I've had one pap in 5 years, by a female GYN.

Yes, they still have a female come in. I have 2 gyns right now (this one and my regular one) and both are men. My regular one has EXCELLENT bedside manner and is very good at communicating.
But the surgeon was already doing a pelvic exam for other reasons, and a PAP isn't really all that much more invasive than already being in there feeling around for masses/checking things out. I don't feel like he did anything out of the ordinary while he was doing the exam, except he didn't do the part where he talks you through things. IIRC the female just handed him the swab and he did it quickly, the whole thing took like 5 seconds and he was like "ok we did a PAP since you haven't had one, ok we're done go ahead and get dressed!".
ETA: I am very chill about pelvic exams in general, especially since I used to be involved with the program teaching med students how to do them, so I am intimately familiar with how they work and they just don't seem like a big deal to me anymore. I can imagine someone who is more anxious about them or doesn't have as much familiarity with them might find the type of experience I had pretty off-putting or weird though!

I don’t think it can hurt! I always do the “I’m confused” then push back one-two and it always works. This isn’t an error on your side at all.

Ok. Sorry Wildrice for making you put all of your business out there. I go to a teaching clinic too and always feel like I should let them be involved, or else how do you learn? I think last time they didn't even give me a choice, just did two checks, although that was weird with COVID and such. Anyway I hope you get answers, and they don't charge you twice.
