One of my brother's (I have 2) passed away in July. He died in his sleep, it was all very sudden and we are still grieving this loss. My youngest sister and her husband live out west and have been talking about moving back home for a while but when we lost my brother they decided to not waste one more minute being away. They put their house on the market, sold it in 2 days, packed up and arrived here on Tuesday.
It has been a whirlwind but I am just so happy to have my younger sister home. We have never lived in the same state our adult lives, so this is all so exciting.

I spent my morning patient escorting and baking a strawberry cake. My BIL's 40th birthday would have been today. It's been 3 years since he passed from brain cancer. The strawberry cake was his favorite. I think we'll make this a tradition.
I had ONE free morning to myself, no work, kids at school, no appointments...bliss.
My step son told my husband that his stomach hurt and asked to be online today and my husband said yes. Poof to my stress free morning. Oh, and my step son is totally 100% fine. He was asking to be online a few days ago and we said no because he didn't have a good reason.
I'm so annoyed. Lol.
I feel your pain and I'm sorry that you didn't get your stress free morning. Today is my step-son's birthday and he pitched a fit at his Mom's house about having to go to school today so she told him that he didn't have to and then dropped him off at our house last night because I work from home and she figured it'd be fine. Humphf.
It was fine, I picked up a couple hours of work. But definitely not the morning I was envisioning. Happy birthday to your step son!
Ughhhh. I signed up for the CDC’s post-international travel testing program and got the test kit today. Positive. I’m waiting at urgent care for a same-day PCR test.
Obviously I knew this could happen, but I am super bummed. DH’s rapid test was negative and he took his before me, so it was especially surprising. I’m worried about my kids getting it and about how much school DS1 is going to miss. 😕
ETA: PCR was negative! I’m going to confirm it with a free test at the testing site nearby, but omg what a relief.
I’m so mad and I don’t even know what to do about it! My 7 y/o DS convinced his grandfather to buy him Fortnite for an XBox. We don’t have an XBox and my kid is 7!! I just told my FIL last night not to buy anything like this as we were planning to get him a system (most likely a Nintendo switch) for Christmas/Hanukkah. I’m just angry. I have no idea what we’re even supposed to do with this dumb thing. I know nothing about this game other than it’s rated for Teens and the two coworkers I’ve told about this both made a 😬 face when I told them about it. Ugh!!

May I ask why you don't return it to the grandfather? Tell him you don't have an xbox, so obviously can't play it and the game isn't appropriate for a 7 year old (I know nothing about this game, just going by what you're saying). Or if you don't want to deal with that just keep it and don't use it. Just because he bought it doesn't mean you have to do anything with it. Or is there more backstory with this grandfather that better explains the anger?
We started school today, and my feet are giant sausages.
were your students surprised to see you pregnant?
My new sophomores were like…ummm, so do we just ignore or what? I made a joke about it, and it was like a weight was lifted. My AP kids were tickled to see how mucin a bump has gotten!

My friend is one of the creators, not a random acquaintance, but a good friend. My guess is the faces are b/c the kids don’t want to put it down. It’s not a ‘bad’ game, most boys I know start playing around 8ish, so I get his interest:) I agree with giving it back to grandpa to return. Sounds like he had a fast one pulled on him!
I’ll disagree with this - I would have made the face because it’s a game rated for 12+ that involves shooting/killing. Sure it’s more cartoonish and they respawn etc but I certainly didn’t let my kids play at 7 or 8.

Good thing he's buying for an Xbox if you are getting a switch. Such a shame you'll have to regift it.
If he buys a compatible version, I'd stick it on a high shelf and explain to DS he can play it when he's a teen. As I've told my mother before, buying something as a gift for my kids (that she knows I don't want them to have) doesn't mean I'm going to suddenly let them have it. FIL doesn't become the parent and get to substitute his judgment just because he makes a stupid purchase.
I ate a tomato sandwich (with tomatoes from our garden) and watermelon (locally grown and is soooo freaking good) for dinner. My mouth is still happy. I’m very much looking forward to having this again tomorrow.
