Anyone have one? I have the opportunity to buy a used Brother 2340CV for a very reasonable price and I’m thinking of picking it up so I can do neck binding and hems. I will be able to try it out next Tuesday and the owner says it is in perfect working order and has the binding feet.
It’s only $450CDN and seems like a reasonable price. I could probably resell it without an issue if I don’t wind up liking/using it.
I have the same(ish - I'm not at home to verify number) Brother. I would go so far as to say a coverstitch machine is necessary for sewing knitwear frequently, it just speeds up the process so much and the sturdy hems and collars/sleeve tacks cannot be beat. It's also nice when store-bought hems fall out! Threading is easy, and well diagramming. There is a learning curve, you will want spare needles.
I will come back to verify that they are the same/close, I have had mine for 10ish years and it was still purring last week, no mechanical issues outside of early broken needles.
ETA: Yep - same machine number, I doubt they've changed it much without a product number change. I will say that it (at least, mine) struggles with multilayer seams- like crossing the seam while tacking down thick, serged on ribbing at cuffs/necks. I usually take my foot off and hand churn through those areas if I think they'll be a problem (which works fine). I personally haven't used it much for woven fabrics (like, I can't think of a single instance, but I may be forgetting).

Thanks cmeon! The girl who currently owns it did mention that it struggles through thick seams but I mostly plan to do underwear, swimsuits and athletic knit type stuff with it so I’m not too worried. She’s switched to working mostly with wovens and wants a new vintage machine so she’s making space!
