Sunday My dd (11) said her stomach was hurting her a lot, she threw up about an hour after first complaining, took a nap and then felt fine. Was happy, hungry- I made her eat a bland meal for dinner and she ate it and all was good. We figured it was just something she ate. She felt good Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday she again complained her stomach hurt in the morning, she stayed home from school Wednesday and slept most of the day. Middle of the night Wednesday she throws up again. Wakes up Thursday and feels fine all day. This morning she wakes up and again, stomach pains. She made it until 10 am before she threw up. She fell asleep for about 2 hours and now she’s bouncing around the house like all is well. What the hell is going on? I called the pedi and they said it sounds like a regular GI bug. She has zero other symptoms aside from a stomach ache and then throwing up. What GI bug lasts this long with only sporadic throw up and feeling good in between??

No fever at all
And I did consider anxiety but she’s not really an anxious kid. She LOVES school so typical morning anxiety over that isn’t really a thing with her and it started over the weekend while we were at the beach which is her happy place
That does not sound like a GI bug to me. I would wonder if 1) she has a sensitivity to something she is eating or 2) has something like strep, which for a lot of kids stomach upset is an early or something the only outward symptom.
Does she has allergies? Nasal drainage can also make a person feel nauseated.
And ditto eddy, regarding anxiety. That is how all my attacks present, though I don't throw up, I feel like I will for several hours. My oldest has anxiety and always has a hard time with transitions from breaks and going back to school.
When DS had strep his only symptoms were throwing up once and some tiredness. No sore throat or fever. He was only around 4 though, so not sure if it presenting that way is just a younger kid thing or not.

Right before my daughter was diagnosed with t1d she complained of random stomachaches. She did not ever vomit though, but we were asked several times if she had in the hospital. It would also come and go. Now its one of the symptoms she experiences when her blood sugar is running high. She also had excessive thirst and urination in the couple of weeks leading up to diagnosis, but it was the middle of a very hot summer so I chalked the thirst up to heat and the increased urination I thought was because she was drinking so much.
I highly doubt this is what is going on here, but I did want to share our experience in case you're also noticing an uptick in drinking/peeing.
Is it sharp pains she's having or just nausea? Wondering if it's something with her appendix? I don't know if it can be intermittently inflamed or not.

Thanks ladies, these are all helpful responses. I’ll start keeping a log of what she’s eating and see if there is any link if it keeps happening. If it’s still going on next week I’ll call and ask for her to be tested for strep. And I guess I should have a COVID test done too 😩

Could be appendix. My daughter was significantly younger (3yo) but would start with pain, throw up a few hours later, and then be fine. Several doctors said there was no way it was appendix because she had too much energy - one told me if was appendix there's no way she could even jump up and down.
Then it burst, poor thing. We had some complications, so I won't bore you with it, but it's a possibility.

This sounds like what happened to me before I discovered my food intolerance to potato. It took a few months for me to determine the cause though and nothing shows up on tests. However, I can not keep even potato starch down and feel like I have the flu if I manage to accidentally consume it.

We had this the first week of school and I (incorrectly) assumed it was just nerves. My daughter had some diarrhea, upset stomach during the school week and threw up once over the following weekend. The bathroom issues at school I thought were maybe just because she's coming off of a year at being home and was able to go to the bathroom whenever she wanted.
Anyway, she had been eating cereal with a lot of milk every morning, which is not the usual for her. We switched her to peanut butter toast and fruit in the morning with water, and 2 days later she was feeling fine.
It may have been a bug, but I'm guessing girlfriend was just getting too much dairy.

Wes currently has a stomach bug similar to this. Definitely not Covid bc he’s been tested 4 times.
he’ll be sick and then totally fine, then sick, then totally fine. He stayed home again from school today because very early morning he was really really sick and then bouncing off the walls the rest the day. They haven’t been to school since March 2020 so I’ve honestly forgotten what illness looks like because no one‘s been sick since then. Lol.

Thanks everyone for the help last week. Looks like it was just a weird stomach bug. COVID test was negative and dd2 is now feeling great since Friday and dd1 is sick with the same symptoms 😩🤦🏼♀️
